View Full Version : 08 Recruits vs. 09 Recruits thread

Assuming most of us have a pretty good idea of how good the 09 prospects are, let's do a comparison thread.

Someone starts off by pitting an '08 recruit vs. '09 recruit. Next person replies and puts up another two.

I'll start it off:

Manti Te'o vs. Arthur Brown

Te'o is just as good of an athlete as Brown, if not better. Both big hitters. The thing that puts Manti over the top is he has real LB size.

Marcus Forston vs Jaccobi McDaniel

Forston. Marcus has the weight to start and dominate right now. McDaniel is listed at 267 and could possibly need a redshirt.

(btw, is Te'o as fast as Brown? I thought that was what made Brown so highly touted)

Dre KirkPatrick vs. Patrick Johnson

PJ, he is quicker and better cuts. Both very large for CB's, but I give the edge to PJ.

Rueben Randle vs. Julio Jones or even A.J. Green.

Julio Jones. A 6'4, 214 lbs receiver with 4.45 speed, and his strength do not come by often.

Darrell Scott or Cierre Wood?

Scott. He's the bigger, faster California back with more burst. Bryce Brown however is a better guy to compare with.

Terrelle Pryor or Matt Barkley (oooohhh).

Petey Smith or Arthur Brown?

Hard to compare different styles, but I'd go with Berkley. I'm not too much into the "dual" threat QB's. I'm sure Pryor will be an excellent QB, but I'd rather have a pocket QB than a scrambling QB. Personal preference. Maybe a better comparison would be Dayne Crist vs. Matt Berkley or Terrell Pryor vs. Kevin Newsome?

Devon Kinnard vs DaQuan Bowers

Guys as the first post indicates, you must first answer the previously asked comparison, before you ask your own.

Devon Kinnard vs DaQuan Bowers

I'm actually going to go with Kennard, although I'm probably in the minority. Kennard and Griffen are the two players I'd say have the most potential at DE (or OLB) in the past 5 years or so coming out of school.

Jamarkus McFarland or Marcus Forston?

Forston.

Ej Manuel or Morgan Newton?

I'll take Arthur Brown's closing burst for Te'o size. King Arthur closes better then any recruit I've ever seen, period.

Forston hands down better then McDaniel. Forston and Marvin Austin (07 recruit) mite be the two best DTs recruits in the past 10 years.

You gotta go with the dual threat QB in college. It's actually a safer pick at the college level. Much more of the top ranked dual threat guys have panned out than busts.

2003 and 2004 obviously favor the pro style guys, 2005 maybe a slight advantage to the dual threat guys, 2006 i'd have to say it's basically a toss up, maybe a slight advantage for pro style. I didn't go past that because it's obviously too early to tell with the 2007 and 2008 classes. Really the only thing that these rankings prove is that they are pretty useless...

he was listed as running a 4.77 out of high school... i dunno, guess they didn't think he was fast enough to be a dual threat.

2002 we had Vince Young, Troy Smith, Marcus Vick, and Omar Jacobs coming in as the running QBs. But the way the college game is evolving the dual threat QBs are the way to go. Jim Tressel has been pretty much trying to get exclusively running QBs the past few years

actually the reason i didn't add 2002 is i didn't realize rivals had them sorted by position that year... i'll add them now.

Terrelle Pryor or Matt Barkley (oooohhh).

I was gonna say that. I could have played on Barkley's peewee football team but my coach was an idiot and didn't want him so he quit. At least I played soccer with him when I was like 6 years old.
