Lets say the draft goes

Miami takes Chris long

st louis takes Jake Long

Atlanta takes Matt ryan

Oakland takes Glenn dorsey

KC takes ryan clady

do you see the Jets, who would have a choice between McFadden, Sedrick Ellis, and Vernon gholston, passing on McFadden? and if they did, how far could he fall? (if my thinking is right, he could fall to denver at 12 or even as low as 16 to arizona)

If that is the top 5 then more likely than not McFadden will be a Jet. In the completely wild instance that they pass on Darren, New England would take him for sure. Seventh overall IS the alamo for mcfadden.

I think I agree if Gholston isn't there the pats would grab Mcfadden just for the hell of it.

But I think think the pats the pats will be trying hard to trade down.

The Falcons would be insane to pass on a sure fire stud running back for an average college QB who would need 3-4 years on the bench to become an average NFL QB.

McFadden could fall but not out of the top 10. I think he cannot get past the Jets who need a face on offense while Clemens develops otherwise they could be terrible again next year.

I think if McFadden falls to 6 the Jets will pick him up... Although Thomas Jones rushed for over 1k yds. he only had 1 rushing TD all year... but it would be tough for them to pass up Sedrick Ellis or Vernon Gholston to fill Defensive holes

It's very possible. I've been saying all along that McFadden could fall out of the Top 5, partly due to team need and partly due to some character concerns.

A lot of people seem to be more worried about his lack of lower bod strength than his character. From whatever tape has been shown, whether it be on NFL Network or ESPN or whatever, he doesnt really break tackles and drive forward like guys such as Jonathen Stewart and Rshard Mendenhall do. To be quite honest, I would rather take Stewat as the top back this year, and I think he will skyrocket this weekend.

Scott's scouting report on McFadden (http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/scoutingreports/rb/darrenmcfadden.html) has a good, concise summary.

McFadden may not run at the Combine, but the interviews with teams are going to be important.

Question: Does anyone remember when people thought Pittsburgh was going to draft Steven Jackson in the first round in 2004?
Moral of the story, players can fall well past where they should be drafted because teams lack the need for that position. Look no further than Brady Quinn and Aaron Rodgers for that.

Mayock seems to doubt his overall skill as well, something about his legs going dead on contact.

I am thinking if Jake Long is off the boards the Falcons go with Ellis, I think if Long is there they go with Long...but I really can't tell! Argh!

no way, unless D-Mac loses a leg he won't fall out of the top 10

Once again, the Jets are not going to take McFadden, when they need personell for their 3-4 defense still, and they have leon washington who had a better year then Thomas Jones did...I cant think of any scenario where they draft him and just put leon on the bench, they dont need a rb, everyone assumed they would trade up for Bush too, because they needed one so bad then and they took a lineman...Their not going to overcrowd their backfield for the flashy pick.

7 is about as far as McFadden goes, cant see him go any further.

7. The Pats will find somebody willing to trade up for him. I don't think they'll take him themselves after Maroney showed up in the playoffs.

Does anyone else find it patently comical that teams put any sort of stock in what a player says in his combine interviews, considering virtually every word that comes out of there mouth is a bunch of ingratiating babble? In many instances, I'm sure they are instructed what to say.

Seriously, it may be one of the only ways to "get a feel" for a player, but if a combine interview advances\decreases a players' stock in any capacity-that's just silly.

Yea he did just what they asked of him, not only that, Keviin Faulk is going nowhere with his role, and Maroney is a former 1st rd pick still under contract, they need youth on defense and will want to trade down or pass him up, people have McFadden going everywhere but alot of those teams dont have a place for him, Cincinatti is the first team I can see who might take him, but they have a much better chance of grabbing him then the jets or pats.

For all the talk about McFadden out of the top 10, and the PFT talk about no QB's in the top 19 ... I don't buy it. I expect McFadden to go top 10 at the end of the day, and I definitely expect 1 QB in the top 19.

As for the Pats, I guess I could see it, but ... here's the thing. McFadden and Maroney aren't exactly big contrasts in style. Maroney and Mendenhall offers more contrast. Maroney and Stewart offers more contrast.

Pats won't take him, I think they'll try hard to trade out, and if mcfadden is still there, they'll find loads of teams who want him and are willing to pay a hefty price.

Just seems to early to spend another 1st rd pick on a rb at this point, especially with how old they are on defense, and how much they passed this year...for almost half of the season Maroney was rarely involved, ever, I dont think they would tend to get away from that too much..Maroney is their workhorse, Faulk gets the job done on 3rd downs, their passing game is so potent thats more then enough as a rushing attack...
