View Full Version : NFL Forum Mock FA + Draft

I am thinking of doing a mock FA and draft I will take charge of it and would like to see if there is any interest. This is a little experimental but I'm sure I could pull it off.

If there are any questions PM, IM, or post them.

FYI this would be how FA would work.

- Time limit 1 week.

- I will take many factors into account and will really take it on a player by player basis. Things I take into account include but are not exclusive to. Money, Age, Players SB, Teams Chances for a SB, Ability for player to start and the list goes on.

- For the more desirable FAs they will likely be signed after 3 days unless I have a bidding war.

- Everyone will be held to cap numbers at the time of this post.

To find player cap number as a basic idea you can go here

http://content.usatoday.com/sports/football/nfl/salaries/default.aspx

to find specific numbers you go here

http://www.nflpa.org/Resources/ActivePlayerSearch.aspx

Draft and trades

- All trades are accepted given that the cap works out.

- I will be using the NFLPA site to get cap hit numbers.

- Draft Picks must be signed

+For the 1st overall pick you need 3.6 Mil in cap space.

+You subtract 7% for each subsequent pick till you hit the league minimum which I think is 150k.

- Like I said I will not be in control any teams so your draft boards will be safe with me.

- I WILL SKIP PICKS

- I haven't thought of a clock system yet but I have a week+ to think of one if there is enough interest.

To sign up post the team you want. As soon as we start I will give each team the official cap numbers

Teams are below there will be a name by teams once they are taken.

1. Miami Dolphins - princefielder28
2. St. Louis Rams - KCJ58

Is this going to be the forum one?

No this isn't the official forum mock. I'm pretty sure that the forum mock will not include FA. This is something I'm gonna do on the side.

Well it looks like there is no interest anyway considering it is't an official forum mock. As to why do it now well I just wanted to see how smoothly it would work and to let my fellow forum people to play GM put out some sort of real life scenario.

Sorry it is taking longer than I'd hoped to get this thing off the ground but I wanted to make sure it wasn't going to get locked/deleted.. I've started to post a link in other teams boards hopefully that'll get some more people in.

Brothgar

Ok I'm going to give it another two or three days if anyone wants a second team speak up but I will start FA on Wednesday or Thursday and I will give you your cap and the cap you would need for each of your current draft picks. As for unclaimed teams I will keep FA to players that there are rumours for the team to take. Draft picks will be made by a draft simulator (which one I'm not going to say but I'm going to use one). Even after FA starts if anyone wants to take over a team as long as it isn't already taken it is yours.

Well considering rosters are as they were on February 29th I will allow him to still be on the roster. If by some chance you want to force Brett to retire I will take his cap money out.

Brothgar
03-04-2008, 10:37 PM
Like I said FA will start on Thursday! with a 1 week FA signing period. Big names will sign in 3 days unless there is a bidding war which I will allow an extra day for teams in the running to make final bids. The cap numbers are updated by tomorrow evening everyone should have the cap number needed to sign all their draft picks.

REMINDER: If a player signed before the 29th of February it counts if they did so afterwards it don't IE Zach Thomas is a Cowboy BUT Turner is NOT a Falcon

There will be a FA list here but I've got to figure out who has resigned with their respective teams before FA started.

shouldnt we have a resigning period first, or is everyone, automatically dumped into the pool?

Well I have a list of players who were resigned before Free Agency started. everyone else is going to test free agency but it does not mean you can not resign any players it just means you have to compete with the rest of the league.

To avoid my PM box from being full on any given day I am going to have to ask that you guys have ONE PM a day with a list of deals offered to all the players you are looking at.

IE.

49ers

Jamie Martin <5 year 100 Million>

TJ Duckett <2 Years 50,000 >

ect.

If it is easier for you, you may do 1 PM per team.

You may also submit queries to how much cap space you get (or eat) if you trade or cut a player in the same PM. (Normally I wouldn't care but there is a 50 message limit on our PMs)

Do you want reasoning with the signings to??? like a bit of persuasion

If there are reasons that you think the player will come to your team that you don't think I would have thought of. Also if it isn't obvious that said player will be a starter by looking at your Roster include that as well.

IE
WR Roy Williams grew up in Texas so I think he wants to sign with Dallas.

OR

QB Jamie Martin has alot of experience with the Mike Martz Offense so he would be better in San Fran.

You know player history and how he is a better fit for your scheme.

Miami is fielding offers for DE Jason Taylor

Are the recent releases gonna be enforced? ie. Warrick Dunn.

If I can remember that they were released after the after March 1st then I won't include them but the owner of the Falcons is more than free to do so. If I made a mistake with it drop me a PM and I will adjust the list accordingly (figuring out when every single FA that has signed actually signed is way to time consuming.)

As for non player controlled teams I am just going to cut those players that the real GMs cut But I am also going to put up offers for teams that signed players. IE New England signed LS Lonnie Paxton to a 1 year $500,000 deal if you want to get Paxton you are going to have to get a better offer on the table. Remember though there are more factors than just money.

Can the Lions and Browns do the same trade with Rogers/Bodden & 3rd? There isn't a Brown's Gm...

Already done because technically it was done on February 29th at 11:59 PM

Green Bay Trading Block:
Corey Williams- late 2nd-early 3rd
(I believe the CLE-GB trade was on march 1st)

Baltimore Trading Block:
Steve McNair-7th
Kyle Boller-7th

I already involved the GB - Cle trade but I can undo that with the cap if needed. Which the earliest reports I found were on the 29th.

http://blog.cleveland.com/sports/2008/02/reports_browns_trade_for_packe.html

if both teams agree I will adjust the cap so the trade never happened.

100% correct. all trade offers to GM-less teams should be sent directly to me (preferably within the same PM sent to give offers to FAs until FA period is ova. Unlike FAs however you must give me a very good reason as to why the other team will accept this trade.

broth how should we go about doing trades??? send them to you???

Yeah send all accepted trades to me. I will adjust the cap accordingly and then post the moves on a daily basis.

Sorry to ask but is there any chance you'd like to have another team other than the Ravens? I've got an owner lined up for them and I'm pretty sure you just wanted to fill the teams up.

tomorrow morning I will have the best offers per player up ... maybe

First and foremost I will address Questions that I have received.

Q. Do you have to send trades to you (you = Broth223)

A. Yeah I am not a fairness police though the only thing that will reject your trade is a salary cap Violation.

Q. Can we make cap adjustments to our players? IE renegotiate contracts and whatnot?

A. Honestly I think it would add a level of complexity to it that I'm not quite ready to implement yet. But for that reason I am now going to give every team an extra 5 Mil in cap space. (will be done when I make cap adjustments for the days cuts)

Q. I think I should have more cap room.

A. Most likely you are right specially with players that were cut between February 22 - 29 I am working feverishly to fix the problem.

Q. Broth why do you rule so much?

A. Why do Zebra's have stripes? Its just genetic baby!

Q. I havn't gotten my draft pick cap numbers yet.

A. BOO YA! (Note it has not been changed for the trades I got today) (2nd Round picks are getting cheated by about $300,000 but otherwise it works fine)

John Clayton has the top stories from the NFL

Today begins the first official day of the NFL Free Agent period and already teams are making sone big moves you may want to check your local meat market because Safeties are on the choping block today.

The Detroit Lions have cut SS Kennoy Kennedy saving $2.3 Mil but taking a cap hit of $1.5 mil
adding .8 Mil to the 2008 cap space.

Denver Broncos cut multiple pro bowler John Lynch today saving 1.5 Mil and since he is on the last year of his contract doesn't take a cap hit. Thus adding 1.5 Mil to the 2008 salary cap.

The Atlanta Falcons have cut RB Warrick Dunn adding 2.25 Mil to the 2008 salary cap.

There have also been some trades around the NFL on this first day of Free Agency.

The Miami Dolphins traded 2006-2007 DPOY Jason Taylor to the Greenbay Packers for Greenbay's 2008 2nd round pick and LB Brady Poppinga.
(Overall cap effect Miami +5.0 Mil GB. -6.5 Mil)

Trade Approved

Detroit sends its first round pick at 15 to the Tennessee Titans for their first round pick at 24 and a 2008 2nd round pick.

(Cap ramifications: None till draft)

Trade approved.

GM Lion was very busy first day of FA with another trade. As Detroit semds the pick acquired from the titans (24) was sent to Green Bay for Greenbay's 1st round pick (31) and a 4th round pick.

Mike: Hey John are there any early indications on who is going to be the highest sought after FA this off season?

Well the guy who has generated the most interest has been by far OLB from the Bears Lance Briggs there are currently 7 teams vieing for Brigg's services.

Personally I am surprised at the attention that former Lions CB Keith Smith has gotten with 3 different teams are currently in talks with him.

3 teams are also in negotiations with Randell ***
... Wait did I just get bleeped! You ignorent Fu-

Mike: Thanks John we'll talk to you tomorrow..

Ladell Betts is on the Skins block.

Good look for a team searching for a very reasonable priced RB.

Positions wanted: WR (tall) CB, DL, OL, draft picks always cool too.

Green Bay News!
Ted Thompson says Jason Taylor will have an immediate impact. He will make our pass rush similar to New York's. 2nd Rounder and Brady were worth it.

Green Bay orginally sent an offer to Randall G.ay but has decided not to pursue him anymore.

Green Bay believes they are closing in on a deal with Randy Moss.

Correct again. The numbers next to a given players name is the best offer given.

As for having holes in teams anyone can take any team that isn't taken yet at any point in free agency when I have a day off (aka sunday) I will start making offers for unclaimed teams based on what they give to other players in real life and they only look at players that they are involved in rumors with or those that they actually signed in real life.

Big deal coming out of Atlanta today The Atlanta Falcons are moving CB DeAngelo Hall to the Giants for a First round pick (at 32)

(Cap adjustment: Atlanta gains 3.2 Mil - .9 Mil for cap hit - .5 mil for Alfords contract = overall + 1.8 Mil

Giants: Lose 3.11 Mil gain .5 from Alford but loses an additonal 1.5 due to a cap hit overall cap adjustment -4.11 Mil)

There is strong roumors coming out of baltamore. That DE Terrell Suggs will be moved out of Baltamore by days end more to come on tomorrow's update.

The FA competition for LB Lance Briggs is still hot. Not only that but offers have started rolling in for WR Randy Moss and CB Asante Samuel.

Well I thought Yung Flippa was going to take the job but I haven't gotten anything from him thus far so I am reclaiming the Ravens as an un-owned team free for anyone to pick up. (In other words trade offers for the Ravens will come to me.

*********** UPDATE MOTHA F***AS *******************

- All right folks my PM inbox is clear now thus you check the FAs list. If your teams name is not by the player you were outbid.

- I owe an explanation to one team whom offered twice as much as Green Bay for Randy Moss unfortunately your team isn't a Super Bowl contender so I can't see Randy going there.

- Cap hasn't been updated.

- Scott D you are in charge of the Texans I know it was confusing but ... yeah

- I am stripping 2 owners of their teams Philly and Baltimore are now open for whomever wants them.

-On Sunday (My first full day off since I started) I will make offers for the non owned teams. then give 2 days to beat offers before the first round of guys to be taken.

- Wednesday ALL FINAL OFFERS must be in!!!

-Thursday you will have all day to make whatever trades you want and time to snatch up the leftovers.

DRAFT DAY BEGINS NEXT FRIDAY MARCH 14th!

The Clock

-The clock runs M-F 6-10 PM EST (I work 9-5 M-F)

-Saturday - NO CLOCK (Broth likes to party/bartend on Saturday) but Picks can and should be posted anyway (Please don't filibuster trying to get a trade)

- Sunday 12pm - 12am EST tends to be my only day off.

- Everyone has 1 hour to post picks. After the hour (I will be reasonablly strict on this aka a 5 minute window of error) I will use their draft board if they don't send a draft board then the pick will be skipped. It doesn't matter if the person is online or not when their pick comes up I will wait the full hour to make a pick.

- I must skip the pick I'm not trying to be power hungry but I don't want someone to get screwed over because I was taking a dump.

- I am also allowing conditional trades. By this I mean say I am Dallas and I want Darren McFadden and the Jets want to make a trade with me. I can make a trade saying

This trade goes through if Darren McFadden is available at pick 6

NYJ get
2 first round picks
Marrion Barber

Dallas Gets

#6 overall pick

- Conditional trades are kept secret until the pick comes up this keeps the teams strategy a secret

- Right now I am flexible with this if the vast majority of the players wants this changed in any way I am open for it.

He is signing at noon tomorrow. giving 36 hours for teams to sign other candidates. Randy Moss and Asante Samuel are signing in 8 hours

The high bid for Samuel hasn't changed from the last post and is currently 8 year 82 Mil from the rams.

Are you going by salary per year for free agents? Cause I offered more years and more money total for Samuel. But not more per year.

As far as Samuel is concerned I'm looking for most per year given a certain time frame. Really I shouldn't even be taking an 8 year offer considering he's 27. He ain't playing much past when he's 35. So 8 years is most likely the longest he is going to play and will likely be cut before then. Super Bowl contender doesn't matter he has enough rings already. He is a mercenary for hire.

Randy Moss has signed with his new team!

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y129/broth223/RandyMoss.jpg

The Jacksonville Jaguars have signed Randy Moss to a 4 year 51 Million dollar deal.

We are in the press conference with Head Coach Jack Del Rio and newly acquired FA Randy Moss

http://www.mattspatsblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/11/1195479348_0590.jpg

Q. Don Banks SI.com, Randy why did you choose Jacksonville over the other teams after your services.

A. Well the most important thing was that they were a Super Bowl contender without me and this team is surely that.

Q. Steve Reed Jacksonville Daily News, Wasn't it all about the money?

A. No, in fact that's insulting to me, and the great city that is Jacksonville Florida. This city has great fans, a young energetic team, A pro bowl QB. The money was just icing on the cake.

Q. Vic Ketchman jaguars.com, Does this mean you are going to guarantee a Super bowl victory?

A. Now you know better than that ... but guys I'm tired from the flight I'll talk to you guys later.

http://i.a.cnn.net/si/2007/scorecard/01/26/truth.rumors.nfl/delrio1.jpg

Q. Coach Del Rio What does this signing mean to the team?

A. This signing means we have a great play maker in the WR corps and we can start utilizing that part of the game more.

Q. Are you still going to be a run heavy team?

A. We are not going to change our game plan that drastically we are still a run first team.

Q:What was the biggest reason you were unable to get Moss?

Q: Have you spoken to Favre since Moss signed with JAX?

Most are probably wondering why there hasn't been any updates in the past two days. Well that was purposeful. You see when there are a bunch of teams gunning for a player that player is going to start a bidding war when only one or two teams are interested they keep it hidden so you don't know which may drive the bidding up.

Hey I messed up. Starks is a Bill I missed a PM at the deadline offering 30 Mil for Stark's services plus he is going to start for the Bills so he goes there. Once again this was my fault also from the information I got signing and roster bonuses are counted under guaranteed money thus go against the cap along with the base salary.

http://www.realgm.com/boards/football/viewtopic.php?t=99

thus I must check it out to see how many players you can sign along with your Draft picks.

saintsfan912

Other places on these boards they are.

You shouldn't be because he's slow and can't play anymore. It's pretty bad when the Saints don't even want you to come back.

There was a trade with Buffalo's pick I can't remember to whom but I'm sure Fisch will be able to post his trade it involved a 1st, 2bd plus player for a 1st 5th and 6th I think the player was abdul hodge and the team was Packers but I can't remember

Bryant Johnson - 5.3 Mil
Mike Flanagan - 2 Mil
Asante Samuel - 10.25 Mil
Darnell Bing 1.5 Mil

and there draft picks?

BTW i say we pick for them 5 hours is enough time, Sam Baker works for me

The Issac Bruce cut gave a bit of money (Not all of it) but I am going to have to re-check the numbers. sorry bout disappearing lately it is likely that a certain CB is going back on the FA market.
