Maybe more will come out later. "Rumor" is that we got a 3rd for him.

I'll take a third and a fifth I guess. A second rounder was a pipe dream. I'll never forget that INT TD.

Great talent, no motor/will at all. He played hard for maybe half the season last year. When he plays hard, he is one of, if not the, best DTs. But good luck getting him to play hard. And he's a character concern too. So good luck with him in Cincy.

He eats.. He plays 1/4th of the time.. He eats.. He takes plays off.. He's selfish.. Did I mention that he's fond of the activity known as "eating"?

When he's in shape and motivated, he's one of the best in the game. When he's out of shape and frustrated, he's just a useless body on the field. It's a gamble from the Bengals' perspective, but a 3rd and 5th isn't too much to risk.

3rd and a 5th thats it. Corey Williams went for a 2nd but I guess that might equal a late 2nd on the value chart. I guess we could turn that into a second by moving around too.

Now we have to replace him. If we don't, O coordinators we face will be licking their chops even more than they already do. Rogers fits the Bengals nicely. Another malcontent. They better fine him for wieght issues. Marinelli didn't have the balls too, we'll see if Lewis does.

The two picks the Lions got are the equivalent of the 62nd pick in the draft. The Packers got the 56th pick from the Browns. The picks the Panthers got from the Jets is equal to the 55th pick.

lol, good point. so much for the bengals trying to rebuild their character.

3rd and 5th for a player we had to get rid of though looks like enough of a win for me. with the corner and rb depth in this draft, those picks should be fun to play with.

Yeah if we move around and turn it into a second I'll be happy.

Somebody has to step on our Dline though or its 2006 all over again. Rogers was our sack leader too. How many times has a teams sack leader been traded?

wingboy2999
02-29-2008, 04:57 PM
I don't know who we can get as far as DT. I would assume Trevor Laws won't be around in the 3rd [unless we use our 2nd on him]. I hope IAK can turn into a starter at DT...

I don't know what the Bengals were thinking if they are going to be running a 3-4. Yeah he has the size and strength but he has the stamina of an asthmatic four year old trying to play in the NFL. I'd be real worried if I was a Bengals fan and they do try him at the NT in a 3-4. It's going to be tough to be effective when the cog of that style of defense is on the sideline two plays into the game sucking wind on the sideline.

To replace him there are some decent players in the mid to late rounds that can add to the rotation and maybe steal a starting role if they bust their tails. I'm taking a liking to Nick Hayden the more I see of him. He's not flashy and most likely won't be a game changer but he should do a good job of holding the point of attack and getting penetration on running plays. There's a stat out there of how bad Rogers was against the run in the second half last year but I don't remember where it is. When teams ran at him in the second half last year they were averaging something like 5.5 ypc.

PalmerToCJ
02-29-2008, 06:33 PM
I agree that it would be a mistake to put him at NT. I'm hoping, now that we have him anyway, that it stays in a base 3-4. Maybe run some 3-4 in pass situations.

Not cancelled but in limbo. However stepped up hopefully offered the same thing. MAYBE more. That'd be sweet if someone went "oh crap, here take more so we can have him".

ROGERS TRADE OFF

The trade between the Lions and the Bengals for defensive tackle Shaun Rogers is apparently off.

According to Mike O'Hara of the Detroit News, the deal was not consummated and the Lions will be looking to send Rogers elsewhere. The two teams had agreed that Rogers would head to the Bengals for a third-round and a fifth-round pick.

In our view, that's not bad news for the Bengals. Maybe it means that someone within the organization raised an alarm about the 2007 allegations against Rogers regarding his conduct in a strip club. Though he wasn't charged, is that really the kind of guy that the team should be signing giving its recent history of struggles with off-field issues?Hmm... interesting.

BREAKING LIONS NEWS…NFL DISALLOWS ROGERS TRADE TO CINCY. LIONS HAVE NOW DEALT ROGERS TO CLEVELAND FOR THEIR 3RD ROUND PICK AND CB LEIGH BODDEN!That's better... we'll probably use the 3rd to trade up anyway.

wingboy2999
02-29-2008, 09:09 PM
This scares me honestly. We'd bring in a GOOD CB that will start for us and is only 26.... AND a third? This is scary. The world is gonna blow up.

And he fits our scheme. Good size and he seems to be able to tackle...

WTF

wingboy2999
02-29-2008, 09:10 PM
Why could they possibly disallow that deal? Maybe the NFL didn't want more character risks going to the Bengals.

The NBA should do that with the Pacers.

They didn't disallow it. I think it is exactly what I said. Word got out that the deal was being made. Cleveland went "oh crap, we need to move fast" and traded Bodden/3rd for Rogers. And once again, Rogers goes to a 3-4. Crennel probably has more physical stamina then Rogers.

A Very Good move. Bodden+3rd > 2nd, IMO. Bodden is a starting caliber CB. Not sure if he's a #1, but an excellent #2. He Fits our style and is only 26. The 3rd ought to be used as ammunition in the draft.

The only minor concern about him is that he's a bit injury-prone. He missed 7 games in 06 and 3 in 05 (although he didn't miss any games last year). But, If he's healthy, we got ourselves a keeper.

P-L
02-29-2008, 10:21 PM
Bodden didn't miss any games last year, but he played injured. I do think injuries are a concern. He's going to want an extension too. He does have two years left on his deal, but right now he's making pennies.

ROGERS-TO-BENGALS FAN AFOUL OF CAP RULES

It has been reported that the trade that would have sent Lions defensive tackle Shaun Rogers to Cincinnati was rejected by the league. The reason for the rejection isn't clear -- Mark Curnutte of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports that the deal ran afoul of salary-cap rules.

It's still not clear what about the proposed trade was a problem.

Meanwhile, the Browns will be getting Rogers, for a third-round pick and defensive back Leigh Bodden.Interesting.

This trade was great, though... Bodden is a solid player and a 3rd + Millen = draft day moves (another 2nd?). I wonder what this means for Kelly...

Amazing trade by Millen. Good Job.

So his first moves

Dwight Smith 2 years 5 million
Keith Smith 2 years
Shaun Rogers for Leigh Bodden and a Third round pick.

Not much to complain about right now. Anthony McFarland needs to sign with us now.

Wow I woke up and for once I'm pleasantly suprised. Leigh Bodden is a good player and yes the 3rd just means movement in the draft, something Millen can actually do well is move around. He can't pick very well but he moves around well.

And Cleveland is a perfect fit for Rogers because they have Corey Williams also. Pretty good rotation right there.

I feel sorry for Cincy.

Bah... forget Cinci. I'm living here right now. These guys don't need good news. Have you ever seen one of those box Scions painted orange with huge black stripes? One out of every 10 cars here is painted in some sort of orange-and-black way. It's ridiculous.

Bengals cars + Cornhole = Cincinnati.

Bodden is worth much more than a 5th. I think this is much better than a 3rd and a 5th even if it is further down the draft board.

I think this would also confirm that we're probably drafting O-Line in the 1st round.

I dunno if it was Detroit, getting gun shy or the NFL and Goddell, you know he's got it out for Mike Brown.

Thanks for ******* nothing, Detroit.

What the hell are you talking about? The NFL rejected it due to salary cap stuff.

riiiight.

As soon as I see the logistics, I'll simmer down.

But I'm not buying it right now.
The Bengals are a frugal franchise for the most part, so they don't have salary cap issues like that.

How does Randy Moss get shipped off for a fourth rounder last season with no problem?

GoD-dell doesn't like the Bengals. period.

Shere Khan
03-01-2008, 05:05 PM
I wanna see some evidence to the contrary on this 'salary cap' issue ****.

It seems totally arbitrary to me, just like God-dell's reasoning to suspend O'Dell for another year, but let Jared Allen and Koren Robinson basically go unscathed.
