HAH, draft plans.

Well I'll get us started.

Assuming we keep the 6th overall choice I see one of the following players in a Redskins uniform next year.

Gaines Adams
Jamaal Anderson
Alan Branch

Its obvious we draft defensive line. Will we go Defensive End, or Defensive Tackle? Well, we have a young Kedric Golston who stepped in last year and played, to my expectations, very good. Also we have depth with Cornelius Griffin and Joe Salaveia (sp?). When I look at defensive end, I see older players. Phillip Daniels, Renaldo Wynn. The thing that concerns me is that the team has not approached them about taking pay cuts or restructuring yet because of the locker room and leadership value they bring to the team.

I think that tackle is not as much of a need. Griffin when healthy can get pretty good penetration for a tackle. I think with a relatively small Carter on one side, you need to get the bigger end here in Anderson. He is more of a force on the run, but has a good motor to eventually build elite pass rushing skills also. I would like to see Wynn or Daniels stay, one of the two, or both if they take pay cuts, but I doubt that.

On the other hand, if we had Branch in the middle he would make everybody around him better. To block out Griffin and Branch, that would take at least 3 linemen, or two and a fullback. This would create great lanes for blitzers and generally make the offense better.

I can't really assess the needs untill after the free agency period. Allen out of KC is trying to get out, and if we get him everything changes.

As of now, my draft board goes as:

Branch
Andersen
Adams
Okoye
Carriker
C.Johnson
Moss

If Okoye's stock doesn't rise too much from the combine, I would like to see if we could trade down and snag him and get some extra picks. I think if we are going long run, we need an anchor in the defensive line aka Branch.

Adams and Okoye looked nice at the combine...

Anderson however disappointed me in not running, I was expecting that he would run.

i was watching nfl path to the draft on the nfl network today and they had Mike Mayock on with his top 5 de's and jamaal anderson was ranked 4th behind adam carriker and jarvis moss. thoughts? he said he just wasnt sure if anderson was consistent enough and says he is there sometimes and sometimes not

Mayock also says the same thing about Branch & Adams, so pick your poison. At this point I favour Andserson slightly over Branch.

We need to stop the run and free up the LBers because even though we could never really get a pass rush, stoping the run had us as a top 10 D for 2 years in a row.

True, stopping the run is vital in winning in the NFC east. No team really has a weak running game. If we can force more teams to pass, we have a much better chance of winning.

yea im in favor of drafting Branch especially now that we have fletcher, branch and griffin will let him roam better

I think DT is by far the biggest need for the Skins. Every year Griffin gets hurt for 2-3 games, and the dropoff in the run D is HUGE. I think Branch should be our #1 target in the draft because he could be a double edged sword for us. Our defensive scheme calls for Dline penetration, and he is both big enough to clog the middle, and agile enough for moderate penetration.

In my opinion, if we draft Gaines Adams he would only be a pass rush specialist on our team, because he and Andre Carter would get torched on running downs together. Our run D is weak on the edges as it is.

Jamal Anderson would be a better pick over Adams for our team, because he would complement Carter much better. Only problem is we have 2 similar older veterans on the roster at LDE, but Anderson should provide a better pass rush.

All that said, I think the Skins could be in prime position to trade back and still get Branch or Anderson. With the offseason moves, I think its very possible Adrian Peterson could fall to our spot, and a team like Atlanta or Buffalo could us a good deal. The question is, do we risk Branch getting selected by Miami.

If we do in fact get pick #21 as well as a second rounder I would go at #21 with of course Okoye if he was there but he won't be, but from then this would be my list:

Pick #21:
Jarvis Moss
Adam Carriker
Chris Houston
Michael Griffin
Darrelle Revis

Pick #56
Tank Tyler
Josh Beekman
Josh Wilson
Manuel Ramirez
Quentin Moses
Quinn Pittock
Aaron Rouse

7 Days till draft still no idea who will be the pick, if we will have the pick, so gotta admit it is a little exciting. To be honest if we stay at #6 and Gaines is gone I want to go LaRon Landry, I feel as if Okoye is a little overhyped along with Carriker, and Anderson has dropped out, and Branch has worked his way out of the top 10. Of course I still want to trade and get more picks but I don't foresee it. The way we have been shopping the pick it really seems like we will only trade it for a player as it's key component. We really need to work this pick, picks these high are horribly overvalued so we can go away good if we trade it. Also with these rumors if we are really thinking Jamarcus Russell we are crazy.

Redskins will go with LaRon or Okoye. Okoye will only get bigger/better, since he is 19. I feel Okoye wouldn't be a bad player because he is someone who can really learn the redskins defence, and will help Dougs system in big ways.

Overall, we need defence more than offence, and IMO, I wouldn't mind seeing the skins draft defence only.

O, and ghetto, we aren't getting Russell, if you think logiclly, and I KNOW you do, why would we need him? No need to train another QB when we have the man of the future with us, not to mention Campbell is better IMO then Russell.

Yeah I know it's obvious but the fact we are talking to him knowing Snyder it's more than just a smokescreen for other teams, Russell honestly isn't that much better than Campbell and he knows less and would take another 2 years, and why the hell would you give up on a promising young first rounder!!!

You think Russell is better than Campbell? I would like to see him beat the Saints...

We wont take him, no way, we dont have time to play around, gibbs isn't a couch that plays around with players for no reason, we will get who we need, we always have and always will.

Man oh man just thinking about LaRon and Sean Taylor just gives me chills, we can find a great pass rusher in the 5th round as the Bears did in Mark Anderson because DE depth is so great and I think Kedric will be fine as well as Monty and LaRon is the best safety prospect since Sean Taylor. Just having a leader like Landry will improve our corners and allow Sean Taylor to do his thing and roam the field and not have to worry about covering far down field.

I hear ya, LaRon Landry would be a GREAT pick for the skins. but like I said, Okoye wouldn't be bad either, the kid can only get BIGGER and smarter.

We need a guy to stop the run.... unless we liked our 06' defence...

According to the Post Skins rank the defensive players like this:
1) LaRon 2) Okoye 3)Jamaal Anderson 4) Gaines Adams
Another thing is that the Skins have been heavily inquiring about moving up to #1 or #2 to get Calvin Johnson, it would require parting with next years first which I hate so I for sure would never want to do this move, but if we did get CJ I wouldn't be crying that's for sure. Also it is alarming that reportedly the players the skins have spent the most time scouting are Ted Ginn JR. and Dwayne Bowe in a trade down, honestly if we trade down I don't want to touch these guys. Bowe will be really good, and Ginn is too similar to Randle El but to be honest WR is not a need, only reason we would want CJ is because he is such a rare prospect, I'd hate to trade down only to get a WR.

good to know my top 2 are Redskins top 2 for defence.

I know what you mean about trading up for CJ. One is...we would have to offer a first rounder and the team mom to trade up, and another is that we only have 5 picks this draft, we don't want to have that happen again.
I wouldn't hate having CJ at all, maybe then we could trade Thrash or Lloyd, but what we would lose to get him might not be worth it.

Re: concerns about Amobi Okoye entering the season as a 20-year-old, keep in mind Tommie Harris, who was selected by the Bears in 2004 as the 14th overall pick, also entered the league as a 20-year-old (granted a number of months older than Okoye). In Harris' case, although he started more games (37 of 38) at Oklahoma, Okoye has an additional year of experience at the collegiate level as a senior and thus has played in more games (48), since Harris declared for the draft as a junior.

Personally, I love Okoye and think whoever gets him is getting a heck of a player. I think he would improve Washington's interior line against both the run and the pass for years to come, if they in fact select him.

Edit: That is if Gregg Williams doesn't misuse him and be an idiot with him.

The more I think about it, the more Okoye sounds like the pick that the skins need.

Okoye or Anderson would be great for the Skins. Branch is a possibilty but only for a trade down.

Guys, if the rumours of the Panthers trading Jenkins to the Rams for a 2nd rounder are true, do you think the Panthers could trade for the #6 spot to get Landry (now that they have the ammo)?

That situation really benefits the Skins by getting them an additional trading partner and eliminating the Rams as a candidate to get Okoye/Branch.

I agree, Okoye or Anderson would be good, and of course Landry.

Obviously if it isn't written down it means nothing, but the Skins gave LaRon Landry verbal word that if he is there at #6 they will take him unless they trade out of the pick, so for you Landry fans, me being one of them, it looks promising.

Not a bad draft for the Skins considering the amount of picks and the placement of those picks you guys had.....

Landry scares me. i loved the kid ever since he considered coming out last year and I watched him a ton in 2006. For what I expect Williams to do with him, he has a legit shot at DROY in 2007. I remember saying in my first mock that had him going to the Skins that I literally fear for the safety of my Giants with both Landry and Taylor flying up and throwing themselves at ball carriers. If Taylor returns to form, this could be a top safety duo this year.

Liked Sartz, feel he could evolve into an NFL starter once he gets a little stronger and he'll have time behind Washington. Anytime you get a guy that I think can start from the 5th round makes it a very nice pick.

I don't like Blades...some people (Guru) loved him and called me a fool for saying he was bad during the season, but he really doesn't do anything exceptionally well. He will likely make your roster....so that's a plus with a 6th round pick but I don't see him ever being a starter in the NFL.

I like Palmer, I had him ranked higher than most did. If Campbell doesn't work out over the next few years, Palmer should be given a shot. He has an NFL arm and can fit some balls into tight spots. Just needs to learn the game a bit better and that is one thing Saunders does very well, teach.

Ecker...good blocker and thats about it. You think he will make the roster?

That's a good analysis, Ecker I hope he doesn't make the roster, he is a waste and a horrible pick, he wasn't even the best blocking TE available, probably will make the roster though as only TE other than Cooley on the roster is Todd Yoder. I love HB Blades the kid can flat out tackle, under the tutelage of London Fletcher the model for short MLB's Blades could develop into something really good. Thing I don't like about the draft is that we didn't address the O-line or D-line although it's hard to do with so few picks.
