The first images from shooting are coming in, and tonight an image of Ray Park (Darth Maul) as Snake Eyes was leaked!

With the cast they have assembled, this is going to be really good. Can't wait.

Snake Eyes is probably my favorite. Him or the white ninja... whos name I forget. My favorite figure ever, though, was the Ice Cream Soldier.

Who else is in the cast? I know nothing about the movie.

Flint better ******* be in it. Im trying to think he could play him.

"Before joining the Army, Flint was a Rhodes scholar and earned a degree in English Literature, before deciding he was bored with scholarly pursuits and enlisted. He graduated with top honors from Airborne School, Ranger School, Special Forces School and Flight Warrant Officers School, and is also a qualified helicopter pilot. Out in the field, Flint quickly gained a reputation for leading dangerous rescue missions. He met Duke some time before either of them joined G.I. Joe, and a few years later, Duke recruited him for the team. Flint's outspoken, self-confident personality often borders on arrogance, but his actions usually back up his attitude."

Did anyone else hear that GI Joe isn't an American organization in this movie but rather an internatinal anti-terrorism task force based out of Brussels? I know that was the rumor a few months ago.

Seems like if you wanted some decent international success, you'd almost have to do something like that.

This movie is going to be the big summer release in 2009. I'll definately go see it although I'm sure as a die-hard GI Joe fan I'll likely be disappointed with casting and plot. I'm already upset with the casting of Channing Tatum as Duke. Duke was supposed to be a 1st Sgt. Being in the military I know that you'll never see a 1st sgt younger than 35 years old.

Anyone else hope that they keep the red and blue lasers?

I have to agree with you there. I've seen 1st sgt's that might have been like 33 (although they were more acting 1st sgt's, and hadn't been officially promoted yet), but to have a guy that's about 27-28 playing the role is pretty annoying to me.

Especially cause the guy was in both Step Up movies.

Wtf.

What level is 1st SGT in the Army? My Dad was a Gunnery Sargeant in the Marine Corps, which I know is also called E-7. I think he was 31 or 32 when he got promoted...

1st Sgt is E-8 in the Marine Corps and I believe it is as well in the Army. To put it into perspective. Most people retire after 20 years before ever reaching E-8

1st Sgt or Master Sgt in the Army is the same thing as 1st Sgt or Master Sgt in the Marines. It's paygrade E-8, so one level higher.

I think my Dad was at 14 years in when he went E-7. Doesn't it split in the Marine Corps at E-8 and you can either go Master Sargeant or 1st Sargeant? I don't know what it has to do with anything but I always thought that the next rank my Dad would have gotten would have been MS...

Army and Marines are the same in that regard. 1st Sgt is a lateral promotion from Master Sgt. In a basic sense, 1st Sgt means you're in charge of something ie, top enlisted man (or woman) in a Company. Master Sgt's aren't normally in charge of anything, but might work under a CSM.

Yeah in the Marine Corps, if you get selected to go to MSgt it's because you're good at your MOS. 1st Sgt's are generally guys who spent time out of their MOS by doing B Billets(Drill Instructor, Recruiter, Embasy Guard, Combat Instructor).

Anyway, back to GI Joe. I hear Dennis Quaid is signed on for two sequels. The way I hope it works out is the first one generally sets up the history between GI Joe and Cobra and a second movie goes into the retelling of the Serpentor story line. I just hope to god they never bring back Golobulous(sp?) and Cobra-La.

It didn't bother me as a kid, but now that I'm in the military it bothers me how they disrespect Falcon so much even though he technically outranks nearly all the GI Joes.

My Dad was an air traffic controller and ended up being an instructer, but told me he would have become a MSGT had it come to that point. Never really asked more.

I'm curious to see if they eventually bring Serpentor into this. That would sure be interesting...

Plus he's a special operations guy and could probably kill most of them. They definately have a discipline problem in the Joes.

Maybe it's because they aren't really in the same military structure anymore? I mean, you have guys from all levels and branches of the military, and I am pretty sure the ninjas weren't military either... I don't know, just thinking out loud...

Snakeeyes was just one of the ninjas though.

From Wikipedia

Snake-Eyes' place of birth, and most other information about him have remained classified throughout all depictions of his origins. All that is known for certain about his military standing is that he holds the rank of U.S. Army Sergeant First Class (E-7) and has undergone Drill Instructor training. He is also the team's resident hand-to-hand combat instructor. Very little else about his past has been revealed. He was originally billed by Hasbro Toys in 1982 as a "Commando," but by 1984, in the pages of Marvel Comics, it became clear that he was also a full-fledged ninja master.

Snake-Eyes was more than a ninja.

Cobra-La was an essential part of the history of Cobra.

Cobra-La was an essential part of the history of Cobra.

Actually, the creators of GI Joe and the writers of the movie never wanted to use Cobra-La. It was merely a fallback plan however they weren't able to go back and change it before the movie got made.

From wikipedia

The writers despised the name "Cobra-La" and had only originally intended to use it as a working name to be replaced by a "real" name in the finished product, but were overruled by Hasbro. In an interview with the series’ story editor and writer Buzz Dixon, it is revealed that he had a much different idea for the origin of Cobra. Originally, it would be a sort of extremist organization founded by a Karl Marx/Friedrich Nietzsche-type figure but with a strong set of ideals. Cobra Commander usurped his position and locked him away in a secret prison.[1]
