Noooo, Jake is gone at 3!

neko4
03-26-2008, 04:15 PM
Mock so far
Miami- Vernon Gholston
St.Louis- Chris Long
Atlanta- Jake Long

neko4
03-26-2008, 04:15 PM
i disagree with that guy, i think theres a few good DT's in the late 1st early 2nd.
Moore
Laws

neko4
03-26-2008, 04:16 PM
chiefs get Dorsey i guess
if he says sedrick ellis, i'll punch him

619
03-26-2008, 04:16 PM
Yes, good job Scott! Couldn't complain with either pick.

PACKmanN
03-26-2008, 04:18 PM
i disagree with that guy, i think theres a few good DT's in the late 1st early 2nd.
Moore
Laws

but there are more value for an OT then DT. They could get Jeff Otah, Nick Collins, Gosder Cherilus, Anthony Collins. All having more upside then the rest of the DT left.

vidae
03-26-2008, 04:18 PM
Oh god, Matt Ryan, nooooo! :( :(

neko4
03-26-2008, 04:19 PM
ugh, matt ryan to KC

It was Gosder Cherilus' pro day too!!
Also since when is matt ryan worth a top 5 pick?

619
03-26-2008, 04:19 PM
Ryan ... Chiefs?

bored of education
03-26-2008, 04:24 PM
Dorsey to Jets?

neko4
03-26-2008, 04:24 PM
How does everyone think of this trade
Miami gets:
Damon Huard
1st round 5th pick
2nd round 5th pick

KC gets:
1st overall pick gets Jake long

PACKmanN
03-26-2008, 04:24 PM
whats wrong with the way that guy is talking, I'm having problems understanding him.

KC needs to include next years 2nd round pick. Huard doesn't have much of value.

bored of education
03-26-2008, 04:25 PM
Seriously these guys are morons. Scott is outshining them.

vidae
03-26-2008, 04:27 PM
Meh, that could be okay. I'm not in love with it because we have so many needs this year (mainly offensive line, cornerback, wide reciever, defensive tackle) and giving up the second this year would hurt but I wouldn't really complain.

I don't see Carl Peterson trading up to #1 though.

Not even close to market value for a top pick imo.

If Brian Brohm were ten feet tall, Miami would pick him.

neko4
03-26-2008, 04:33 PM
WHAT?????
Because he's not exactly 6-3, Brian Brohm cant go in the first???
What about hes arm being better than Ryans?

Can I make it to that show? why would they take Clady? they got Walker last year and they want big linemen. Give them Mike Jenkins...

vidae
03-26-2008, 04:42 PM
Out of those picks, I think Sweed or Jenkins are the best picks. I think OT is a bad decision here.

neko4
03-26-2008, 04:44 PM
Trevor Laws!!!
Do it!

azbmxican
03-26-2008, 04:46 PM

PACKmanN
03-26-2008, 04:46 PM
please Scott do our pick. Scott they moved Jordan back to LT, so they could use Otah, but don't they run the ZBS now? so I dont see that working, I would go with Kenny Phillips there.

azbmxican

ohh man, lol they are taking mendenhall.

neko4

PACKmanN
03-26-2008, 04:53 PM

vidae
03-26-2008, 04:59 PM

azbmxican
03-26-2008, 04:59 PM
Aqib Talib, solid pick for the texans.

devin thomas is a reach, still good

vidae
03-26-2008, 05:06 PM
I like Thomas here to the Buccs personally.

And Kelly isn't a bad pick. Just wonder if the injury concern is a big issue?

PACKmanN
03-26-2008, 05:06 PM
devin thomas is a reach, still good

IMO, Thomas has the most ceiling and potential then any wideout in the draft. I agree with what Scott said.

brat316
03-26-2008, 05:06 PM
Malcolm Kelly he has no knees, Redskins

neko4
03-26-2008, 05:07 PM

yeah, and he's a good fit, theres just some WRs i like more

03-26-2008, 05:10 PM
LOL Ryan Clady for the Bills??? Wow, who made that awful pick?

PACKmanN
03-26-2008, 05:10 PM
no not Felix Jones, NO SCOTT! save him for the Packers!!!!!

vidae
03-26-2008, 05:10 PM
Scott is correct here. I don't get a safety with that pick.

brat316
03-26-2008, 05:11 PM
How come only 2 people make sense on this show Scott and this guy mumbling.

vidae
03-26-2008, 05:12 PM
Branden Albert is a predictable pick but a really good one for the Steelers. Jakey would be happy :D

PACKmanN
03-26-2008, 05:14 PM
I have a gut feeling the Steelers go with Phillips.

neko4
03-26-2008, 05:14 PM
what about how well Otah played this year?
WHAAT!?!?
Stewart to Pittsburgh
They could just grab some runningback in the 2nd or 3rd or next year

brat316
03-26-2008, 05:15 PM
Stewart the Steelers could pick him I think. And yeah the D probably has to be changing, slowly its changing.

vidae
03-26-2008, 05:16 PM
I like the Jackson pick to the Titans. Scott is right, Young needs some help offensively but I really didn't get the Stewart to Steelers thing.

brat316
03-26-2008, 05:17 PM
yeah its Colon Pacman and D. Jackson being compared ahhaha

Smokey Joe
03-26-2008, 05:17 PM
who are these idiots (besides Scott), and what are they doing actually discussing the draft.

Clady to the Bills? Connor to the Bears!?!?!? Are you ******* me? Whoever gave Connor to the Bears is purely stupid. So what if Urlacher had neck surgery, players have offseason surgery all the time! You sir, are an idiot, and we are all dumber now because of you!

PACKmanN
03-26-2008, 05:18 PM
I doubt Jones would like having to battle Stewart.

vidae
03-26-2008, 05:19 PM
I like Stewart to the Seahawks but with the offseason stuff I'm not sure they'd go there, imo.

brat316
03-26-2008, 05:22 PM
Q. Groves wow him to the Jags I thought it would be Merling. A little undersized I guess putting Groves there.

Campbell has dropped down pretty far from top 5, to middle 1st bottom 1st, now where is he mid 2nd bottom 2nd.

vidae
03-26-2008, 05:23 PM
Yeah, I was surprised by the Groves pick but I don't think it's a bad pick and I like the Gosder Cherilus pick to the Chargers.

neko4
03-26-2008, 05:23 PM
Cherilus is a good pick
One of the safest picks

neko4
03-26-2008, 05:24 PM

I'm not sure, but they added Julius Jones and Duckett, so we'll see.

HAhaha Mike Hart 4.8 speed undrafted well maybe 6 round.

03-26-2008, 05:42 PM
I thought Ryan Grant wrecked face last year. I'm surprised he said that about him. The Packers usually have solid to good offensive lines and Grant lit people up last year.

Hell no! :)

BTW, the order went as follows:

Greg DePalma, Prime Sports Network
Matt Bitonti, Draft Daddy
Colin Lindsay, GBN Report
Scott Wright, NFLDC

So just repeat that order every four picks to see who everyone picked, unless "vidae-KC" wants to do everyone a solid and reflect it in his results list.

Dan Conner is the dumbest possible thing I've ever heard. This just goes to show that any jackass with an internet connection can be a "draft expert".

(Except for the lovely Scott Wright of course)

This from the man that gives Dan Conner to the Bears, Glenn Dorsey to the Jets, and Kentwan Balmer in the top 10.

"I would say that the vast majority of the people running those sites have a subscription somewhere, and they're just recycling things that they've heard. But to me, there's no substitute for what your own eyes can tell you," said Matt Bitonti, the publisher of DraftDaddy.com, which provides in-depth NFL draft analysis year-round.

"We really just love the draft - and when you love something as much as this, you have to get as much information as possible to do it the way you want to. And it became clear pretty early on that you can't rely on anybody else but yourself. I mean, when you go and meet a player and shake his hand and talk to him for a while and watch him do little things, you get a good feel for what kind of a person he is and what kind of a player he is," Bitonti told The Augusta Free Press.

DraftDaddy.com is one of a handful of Internet sites that offer the real deal in terms of original draft coverage. Bitonti and his staff devote thousands of hours of time to breaking down game film and traveling to postseason all-star games.

And THIS is why I don't try to be original. Becuase 9/10, original= making stupid picks to draw attention to yourself.

It's the Skip Bayless method of journalism.

Anyone that would admit to doing drafts off of shaking someone's hand should be forced to wear a dunce cap for a week.

Ok end rant..

Colin Lindsay and Marshall Faulk apparently both do not know that Pro Bowl LT Jason Peters who is 25 years old exists.

If I am Buffalo and Clady is still there, I would show him off to Carolina like a new car. Especially since they can drop a couple spots and still get a good corner or receiver, or possibly Derrick Harvey if he's still there. But you guys said no trades.

KC was in a really tough spot. I think Dorsey was the BPA at #5. It depends on how they feel about Croyle.

I agree. Tamba Hali, Tank Tyler, Glenn Dorsey and Jared Allen would be a really good defensive line and Herm would get the last piece he needs to complete his defense, the stud run-stopping defensive tackle.

But that's only IF Jake Long is gone. ;)

I just had to register to chip in my rebuttal. I know we aren't supposed to talk about other draft sites, so I won't do that.

This from the man that gives Dan Conner to the Bears, Glenn Dorsey to the Jets, and Kentwan Balmer in the top 10.

For the record Kentwan Ballmer is not a first rounder. I had a chance to draft him 6 times and passed every time. He fell out of the round.

I am guilty as charged about those other two guys. Here's my thinking, if you disagree that's fine.

For the most of the draft I was trying to play it straight but for 1 pick I wanted to make a surprise reach... and the reason why is that reaches happen every year. How many people had Donte Whitner to Buffalo? Levi Brown to Cinci? Every year there will be a reach and that reach will probably occur in the teens, bank on it. That's reality. Mock draft isn't always about doing the right thing or the smart thing, sometimes it's about doing an unexpected thing. There has to be some variable on the board otherwise it's not really accurate.

What's fake is sitting here and going with the consensus time and time again. That's not going to happen. The NFL GMs think differently from the NFL draft sites.

As for Dan Connor - first off Chris Williams, Mendenhall and Clady are off the board. So the next best is Otah, who they don't really want and who hasn't really worked out. They want a Left tackle not a right tackle. So they got pinched at 14 as far as who they wanted.

as for Connor the player he's better on the football field than Keith Rivers. Flat out he's a better player. I was at the Senior Bowl, so was Scott, and Rivers might as well not have been there. He made almost no plays. So if Rivers can go 9 no one bats an eye, but Connor at 14 is crazy? I don't buy it. Connor is a legendary college player with measurables similar to Jon Vilma. He's a little heavier and slightly slower over 40 yards but the 3 cones are the same.

Also let's stop the Paul Poz comparisons right now. Dan Connor is BETTER than Paul Poz, he owns the all-time tackling record at Penn St and didn't suffer a catastrophic knee injury. Poz was a late first early second, Connor is BETTER than Poz in a weaker draft, having him go in the teens is possible. Is it probable, no but it's possible.

As for Urlacher, Im sorry Bears fans but he's had neck surgery and is 31. Pro bowl linebackers traditionally stop being good around that age. Also go back to his New Mexico days they played him at Safety, Running Back, tight end, Kickoffs, Linebacker - basically everywhere. His body has a ton of wear and tear on it, whether you want to face this reality or not the fact of the matter is Brian Urlacher's days in the league are numbered.

So that's my defense of the Connor pick. I didn't expect people to like it but I also didn't expect to be called a moron. If you repeat everything everyone's already said that's not really adding anything to the discussion.

Thanks and nice forum Scott. Later, B

It's not even a matter of value. You could have given Conner to the Lions at 15 and I wouldn't have batted an eye.

This also isn't an issue of me being a Bears fan in denial. I could find you about 30 flaws on our team off the top of my head. Linebacker ain't one of them. The Bears were prepared to trade Briggs and move Urlacher to WILL. They are still in discussions to extend Urlacher, this is after his neck surgery. They have Williams, who they are high on. And they drafted Okwo in the 3rd round last year. Both of those guys could play MLB, as could Rod Wilson. Everything else you said is entirely conjecture. When we are sitting at a position of SO many needs, when we've already said that the only defensive position we'd take early is defensive tackle (and Angelo has a long track record of doing what he says), IT WILL NOT HAPPEN. There are a hundred picks that are more likely to happen.

In fact, I will make you a deal. I have some stock options of a value of roughly $10,000. If the Bears draft Conner at 14 I will give it to you. If not, you close down your site. I apologize for calling you a moron, that was childish and unecessary of me, but I don't think it's unfair to say that the pick was completely unfounded and foolish, and that you simply made it to be different and stand out. The people that visit your site should known that. I would expect that someone who is trying to "add something to the discussion" would at least do so in a responsible and informed manner. Otherwise you add nothing.

Dorsey to the Jets make almost no sense either, but at least there is a remote chance that it could happen based on physical talent alone.

LOL let me be the first to say I am not a great mock drafter. Scott is the best. He's won the THR contest 2x, that's like a Poker player winning multiple world series bracelets, it's a huge honor. Im not nearly as accurate. So as far as that agreement I have to decline.

Also maybe you can shed some light don't Bears fans hate their first rounder every year? wouldn't this pick go along with that?

one more point a linebacker who doesn't bust is better than a lineman who does. Connor, for being a bad fit and all, isn't gonna bust. He's basically risk-free. I don't know why people love jeff Otah so much but he ran a 5.5 at the combine. Even when healthy he's not a LT prospect. Maybe I should have taken Cherlius at 14? whatever the situation with Mendenhall, Clady, Williams off the board it's not a fun place to pick valuewise. And if you draft for pure need that's when the busts happen.

Hmmm....well you've got a point about our 1st rounders. We liked Tommie Harris at the time, and Greg Olsen, but the other 3 were met with pretty big meh's....

As for Conner, he wouldn't start, so whats the point. If the FO felt like Urlacher was done they would not be discussing a contract extension with him. Even if they are wrong and he is done, that's not the move they are going to make.

And yes, if you wanted to be different, Cherilus would have been a better pick (I can understand your skepticism on Otah). Other options could be Albert, or hell, even Brohm/Henne/Flacco if they fall in love with one of them (Flacco seems the most likely). I wouldn't totally rule out Sweed either. Marty Booker is not in our longterm plans.
