KFFL has learned the Dallas Cowboys are showing serious interest in Arizona Cardinals OT Leonard Davis

This scare anyone else? I'm actually mildly intruiged about him as a mauler on the inside.

I think it's a good idea. Columbo and Davis on the right side could be nasty.

I really wanted him on the interior line for a while now.

how much u guys think it will cost us a year? i think between 5-7 mil...u?

I'd rather see him on the left side to tell you the truth. Give us a strong side to run behind when we need a yard. Columbo isn't a mauler by any means and Koiser pulling to the strong side could really do a lot to spring some runs.

what is his natural side?

He played LT..so I would assume left side.

he was a WAY better gaurd than Tackle, i think it doesn't matter where he plays on the line it is just good to have a guy as versitile as him. Will Kosier produce as well on the right?

Koiser can play anywhere on the line. He is as versatile as they get.

What is his weight at right now? If he's over 380, I wouldn't touch him.

Dont really want to pay top dollar for him. I wouldnt be opposed, in fact I'd welcome the addition. Big ole' Texas boy with a great amount of potential still, stick him at LG and we're unstoppable running to the left and Romo has got some pretty solid protection, assuming Flozell plays well. Like someone said before... stick Kosier at RG, I think Leonard could fit there as well but, I'd rather have him on the left. If he gets that weight down and gets those quick feet back under him, damn our line would be nasty.

LT Adams (2nd rounder)
LG Davis (1st rounder)
C Gurode (2nd rounder)
RG Kosier (7th rounder)
RT Colombo (1st rounder)

This would be ideal. (I put down there draft placement just for the heck of it)

Lets get it done, Jerry.

If we signed Davis and slotted him at LG, I might actually relax about the offense line for the first time in years. I'm all for the signing.

I think he may be a more affordable option than steinback (sp?) or Diehlman (sp?). Those two are probably going to command Geroude type money. I think we can get Leonard for about the same we got Kosier.

TNew, I think Dielman is out of our price range now. When you start talking about Steve Huchinson money, that's getting a little steep.

I agree, just draft a G then.

I'm not against Davis, but I think there are better guards out there.

Would you rather draft someone JJJ, or sign a second-tier guy?

Why waste a high pick on a gaurd who might be good instead of sign one who is good? It doesn't matter what side gaurd davis plays, he is a good gaurd. he is way too big to play OT at 366 he is better suited at Gaurd...Though he was still pretty good at tackle last year ...he's also a texas native... better than Rivera, imagine him paving the way for barber and JJ :D

I'm all against drafting a Guard on Day 1. We don't need Deilman. I'm not losing a wink of sleep over not getting him. There are a TON of other guys.

Let me get this straight, you want to sign a LT, pay him a top dollars and move him to play RG. I believe we could do the same thing by moving Adams to the RG. It doesn't make sense to me if we sign Davis if people are thinking release Adams.

After we signed AJ, we could have Andre Gurode as second option.

I am all for drafting a guard.

I don't think anyone thinks of Leonard as an OT anymore. If you can get him for Kosier type money, it's a good deal. Geroude type money is a little steep, I think.

yea he is built like a gaurd and valued as a gaurd to us . unless we move adams to RG. but having versatile players can only be a plus i think. :)

According to published reports, the race to sign Davis has come down to two teams: The Dallas Cowboys and the San Francisco 49ers .

For either team, Davis makes sense on paper: The Cowboys need a left guard and the 49ers need a right guard. Not only does his acquisition potentially address the needs of both organizations, but both clubs have enough room under the cap to throw some serious cash at him.

Here is another tidbit on the cowboys and Leonard Davis.

Who wants to "throw serious cash" that direction? Not only is he rather large for the position, it would be a position change... How many times do we have to experiment position changes along our OL?

Gah. Whatever happens happens... I'd rather it be this than spending a high draft pick on Guard.

He has experience at both positions and he plays Guard better than Tackle now, anway.

FYI...Leonard played guard his first three or so years in the league.

Side note: We have the same discussion going on in 2 different threads... It's irritating. LOL.

I would not get into a bidding war for him. If it goes over Kosier type money, I'm out. Let the 49ers have him.

Cowboys | Talks with L. Davis heating up
Thu, 1 Mar 2007 23:22:00 -0800

John Clayton, of ESPN.com, reports talks between the Dallas Cowboys and free agent OT Leonard Davis (Cardinals) are heating up. Davis has not scheduled a trip because he is negotiating with at least three NFC East teams.

One reason I like Davis is his versatility. Sure he's not a superstar left tackle, but he certainly does have more experience at the position than Pat McQuistan, and I definitely think he's better than an againg Jason Fabini. I'm a little apprehensive about his ability to play guard, but something tells me that he could manage. Nevertheless, I'd be more comfortable with a pure guard like Derrick Dockery.

We still aren't sure, however, that Rivera is completely gone. That's another reason why Davis would make sense...we could sign him and then plug him at whatever spot he is needed, whereas if you did sign a Dielman or Dockery, you're basically giving him the starting spot. I'm not sure the organization is ready to do that yet.
