- To distinguish who's applicable etc. it'll be as long as you were born in 1985 (or later obviously) then you are good. So for instance, even the Cristiano is already 23, he was born in 1985 so he CAN be picked from. Players can be chosen from all around the world, the only restriction is age.

- THREE hour time limit with exceptions when at school or university. On weekdays clock will be from 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM. And 11:00 AM to 11:00 PM on weekends. Picks can be made off the clock as well.

- You are creating the best U23 team that could win heads up against the other U23 teams created, this is important information to note, although I'm not sure how drastically it should, if at all, affect selections.

well, I do believe that Lionel Messi is the best in the world, BUT there are a ton of great young strikers so I will have to pass and go with the beast master out of midfield that is Cristiano Ronaldo.

LW Lionel Messi

Rob's pick made me think a little...maybe he's right, there are a ton of great strikers, I don't need one this early, as good as he is. I was all set to make another pick, and then I realized....wait a minute...Lionel Messi is not a striker. He's a supporting striker (forward) if anything, but even that he's not. Like Kaka, people confuse Messi's position a lot, Messi is predominantly employed as a Left Winger, and will be so on my team as well.

nvot9

If that is the case I am taking Javier Mascherano

That's not the case, it's U23 meaning they really shouldn't be 23 but have to be under 23, the only reason it's as long as they were born in 1985, because it would be difficult to judge because what if someone turns 23 during the draft. For instance, Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney were both born in 1985, but one's 23 and the other's 22....the rule makes perfect sense.

UKfan
04-01-2008, 04:23 PM
Well 21 year olds play in U-21 tournaments, so I thought it might be the case that 23 was ok, guess I will have to change my pick, one sec, I'll edit the previous post.

I don't think that's correct, I'm almost positive U23 means you have to be UNDER 23 and not 23....call me out if I'm wrong though... :)

alright, picks up in a sec, checking ages

nvot9
04-01-2008, 05:15 PM
FB Gareth Bale

This was a really tough pick for me and I'm not sure how much I like it, but he's by easily a top 3 defender under 23 with the debate that he is better than Richards. Sure there might be better offensive players, but I have a list of 50 offensive players I'd be ecstatic with and maybe only 2 or 3 defenders....

Wootylicous

Rob S
04-01-2008, 05:41 PM
Gael Clichy

nvot9
04-01-2008, 05:49 PM
ST Bojan Krkic

Possibly a little young, but age makes no difference in this draft. Has absolutely incredible potential and could turn out to be one of the games finest strikers ever seen. He's a pure striker and an outstanding offensive playmaker, one of the premier talents in Europe.

UKfan
04-01-2008, 05:51 PM
Argh, I was hoping I could get Clichy, this sucks... :( Oh well, I have a backup LB I think I can get pretty late.

Micah can play LFB....

UKfan
04-01-2008, 05:58 PM
I guess he could, but he's a natural RB or CB, I haven't decided which yet, althought probably RB at the moment. This draft is a lot tougher than I anticipated.

age cant really be irrelevant. Someone who has proven there game should still be valued higher than a raw player. We cant assume that players will reach their potential, therefore i think players that are on good team already and are contributing are of bigger value.

How? This is a future draft for players under 23....how many studs are there under 23 already...maybe 3 or 4, and even they haven't reached their full potential...this draft is 100% about potential...the ability to reach their potential is obviously a factor that should be considered. If you mean that someone like Cristiano, who's already amazing but still hasn't reached his potential yet, should count more than Cesc Fabregas who's very good now, but still has tons of room to grow then yes, I agree...but otherwise, no....that's not what the draft's about. I mean the way someone's performing right now to this point is a huge factor to what their potential is so for that purpose, yes it should matter.

I think soccer is changing. Some years ago it was hard to see a very young player make an impact with an important team. The Michael Owens' and Fernando Torres' were the excpetion. Now, 18-20 years old players are becoming not only starters for big teams, but the most important players for these teams. It's a very diffused trend especially in France and Spain. Italian teams have realized that just now, and Pato is the perfect example of this situation. Important teams (like Inter, Miland and Juventus) used to send their young players on a loan to the minors. For example, Alberto Aquilani (who's turning 24 in July) didn't play with Roma until last year. Luca Toni played in Serie A for the first time at the age of 27, Pirlo became a starter at 23.
Anyway, I liked the Bale's pick. He's gonna be a star.

I think there's a huge lack of young defenders tbh, so thought I would snap up my whole back four as soon as I could, more options further forward, though I may miss out on some bigger names I guess.

my school, saint johns, actually has their own campus there right by the vatican. I am going to be taking International Business and either Italian or an art class called city of Rome. Yes, the weather should be good. Now it's above 20° C, but I live in Sardinia, and temperatures are usually higher here.
You should go and see one of the "Coppa Italia" semifinals at the Stadio Olimpico, because the tickets for this event are usually cheap. Both the teams from Roma are in, one of the match is Lazio-Inter, the other is Roma-Catania. IIRC, they are scheduled for the 16th of April... I would prefer to see Lazio-Inter, first because Catania sucks badly and Roma is a no match for them, second because you can see some very good young players who plays for Inter and Lazio.

40 may be a bit steep, we are all poor college students haha. May be worth it tho. I am in Rome for 5 weeks.

Modano what do you think about Cavani? I wondered if I could get him later but I like him.

Well, I have him in a fantasoccer, so I follow him very closely. He's skilled, a very good shooter from the mid-range, but the best aspects of his game are his movements without the ball and his ability to shot quickly. He knows how to make a cut and find himself one on one against the goalkeeper. He's still raw but he has a lot of potential. Next season he could breakout, because, considering that Amauri is leaving Palermo, he will be their main offensive target.

Pretty much how I felt about him, and clearly you know about him so glad I picked him :)
