View Full Version : Do, Don't and a Surprise.

Team: Oakland Raiders

Who do you want your team to draft.
Jake Long OT - Michigan, the LT position in the NFL is so important and as of right now the Raiders have Kwame Harris and Mario Henderson possibly protecting JaMarcus Russell's blind side. My God. Jake Long will most likely be gone but he would be my pick.

Who don't you want your team to draft.
Vernon Gholston - LB/DE - the Ohio St. I'm actually a pretty big fan but I think Gholston is best off in a 3-4, I mean I'm sure he can play DE in a 4-3 but he can be more of a force in a 3-4, so I rather stay away.

Who could be the surprise pick? something we don't see in a lot of mocks or maybe you heard something, somewhere and its got you thinking.
Ryan Clady - OT Boise St. Not to long ago I heard Raiders like Clady (is it true? I don't know) anyway with Jake Long probably going to St. Louis or Atlanta. Raiders drafting Clady would definitely be a surprise/reach.

I would like to read what you guys think of your favorite teams.

Want:
Leodis McKelvin.

This guy is gonna be a stud, fluid hips, great speed, solid size and did great at the senior bowl. good combine numbers also. a mini terence newman.

Don't Want:
Felix Jones

I wanna stay as far away from this guy as possible. Please. Please...

Surprise:

Gosder Cherilus or Branden Albert.

There's talk that we might want OL depth, so if there's no top CB's or their
best ranked WR and they go there, i'd be okay with that

DO: Jake Long - Pretty obvious if he is here.

Don't: Matt Ryan - I actually like this kid better than most, but we are not in a situation where a QB can succeed right now.

Suprise: DRC - We are very thin at corner and if the tackles fall off early it wouldn't shock me to see us go after the great athlete.

Do: Draft a defensive end if it's any value at all. Harvey, Merling, even Jackson... they'd all be good picks at 26.
Don't: Draft a wide receiver. We brought in several guys this free agency period just so we wouldn't have to address the position in the draft, and the unit wasn't that bad last year anyway.

Take the best OT available. Something has to be done to solidify the line... it's looking awfully patchwork right now.

This is a great thread.

Team: 49ers

Do: OT Gosder Cherilus, LB/DE Quentin Groves. Cherilus would team with Staley to give us a set of Tackles for the next decade. Groves would provide us with the pass rushing help we need.

Dont: Any WR in round 1. Not a big fan of ANY WR in this years draft. Especially not in round 1.

Surprise: I'm not sure here. Maybe Kenny Philips? That would only be a surprise if he were to fall that far. To go way out on a limb... I would say QB Brian Brohm. I'm not a big fan of the QBs we currently have, but we picked up the option on Alex Smith and get him for 3 more years. Great move. *sigh*

Do: Trade down, get extra picks, draft Brian Brohm late first round. Or, draft a stud CB. Little leery of the latter - DBs have proven incredibly unpredictable and stud corners have come from every round of the draft - as well as busts. Whoever they draft, I say trade down first.

Don't: Trade up and/or draft Matt Ryan.

Surprise: D-line? I've heard this one a few times, wonder if it's got any merit to it.

Carolina Panthers

Want:
Chris Williams - He has a good head on his shoulders and what he does best is what you want your LT to do - pass block. Has stated interest in getting better at his deficiencies, even though I think his run blocking concerns are overstated. May be a bit of an overdraft on draft day, but I don't think it will be in the long run.

Don't want:
Any quarterback. I don't care if Ryan falls, or if any assortment of the crappy 2nd tier is still available. The only guys I wouldn't mind us going after are long term upside plays like Josh Johnson, Kevin O'Connell or Bernard Morris on the second day

Surprise:
Kentwan Balmer. I don't like the sound of it, but I have heard some whispers that the team is interested. Supposedly they feel there's a significant dropoff at the position after Dorsey and Ellis, but a GIGANTIC one after Balmer. He has the local thing going on too

Panthers DO WANT: Right now the weakest position on the Panthers roster is probably offensive tackle, this offseason we've shored up almost every position through the free agency process and what we really need to be successful is an offensive tackle.

My choices: Ryan Clady, Chris Williams, either one would be fine they'd be able to start from day one at LT and be an upgrade over Wharton.

Panthers DON'T WANT: I've seen links big time between us and Merling and Harvey. On the roster at DE we've got Peppers, Brayton, Charles Johnson and Stanley McClover, with the exception of Brayton we drafted all those players and have spent time and money on training and getting them to where they need to be. Taking a DE unless their elite almost never yields and immediate impact. I don't think either DE could have as big of an impact as a LT this year and if the team falters again it could be over for Fox, which would be a big mistake.

Panthers SURPRISE: Rashard Mendenhall. The consensus number 2 back would be a great addition as thunder to Williams lightening and he'd give us, immediately the best backfield in the division and allow us to ride two good running backs a long way, especially with the receiver group we've assembled. Delhomme's injury may way to make the Panthers give him as much support as possible and a monster backfield is the perfect way to do that.

Team: St. Louis Rams

Who do you want your team to draft.
Chris Long (DE, Virginia): The Rams' pass rush last season was mediocre at best, and Jim Haslett's defense had to manufacture most of it with a variety of blitzes and tricks. Being able to get pressure on the quarterback using your front four is essential for successful 4-3 teams. But additionally, the Rams need to continue to seek players that will help them defend the run. Long is a well-balanced RDE prospect that could very well earn a starting spot sooner rather than later. He's at the top of my board for the Rams.

Who don't you want your team to draft.
Matt Ryan (QB, Boston College): Financially, it simply makes no sense. The Rams have invested long-term money in Marc Bulger, so investing a significant paycheck in another quarterback just does not add up. Bulger has had some injury issues - it would be naive to deny that. However, if the Rams look to add a young quarterback, it should be a developmental prospect who can grow into a back-up role before possibly taking the reigns much later down the road. Matt Ryan should be firmly out of the equation.

Who could be the surprise pick?
Darren McFadden (RB, Arkansas): Severely unlikely in my mind, but the fact remains that Steven Jackson has one year left on his rookie contract and Rams fans haven't heard anything substantial in terms of progress on negotiations. Jackson is a young back who is securing a spot among the league's best, but if the Rams think McFadden's rookie deal will be cheaper than Jackson's veteran price, they could consider taking the fresher set of legs. I don't think there's a chance this happens, but you asked for a surprise and this would certainly be one.

DO: Glenn Dorsey, Sedrick Ellis, Leodis Mckelvin, Keith Rivers. We have absolutely no youth at DT, and a big play DT would let Will Smith and Charles Grant have 10+ sack seasons each.

DON'T: DRC, Mike Jenkins, Aqib Talib, Kentwan Balmer, Rashard Mendenhall. DRC is too risky imo. Balmer has bust written all over him. Mendenhall will be a top 10 back in the future, but we have to stick with Reggie and Deuce.

SURPRISE: Trade down to #19 (Eagles) for Lito Sheppard. If Ellis and Dorsey are gone, we might want to trade down and pick up a legit veteran corner, and then draft Kenny Phillips, Antoine Cason, Keith Rivers, Jerod Mayo at #19.

Wow, what scenario would have to arise to see the 'Skins taking a first round RB??

there are rumblings that the skins could very well move betts on draft day. betts supposedly was upset with the amount of playing time he got this past year after coming off a 1000+ yard season. also theres been a lot of reports that have the skins looking at quite a few runningback prospects to complement portis. in fact mendenhall is scheduled for a visit this week. from what ive been reading and seeing lately i think the skins are going to highly consider taking the best available player at 21. if mendenhall or stewart were to fall and the value wasnt there at another position then you could see rb in rd 1.
