I got the idea thanks to ESPN. They were doing the best player drafted at each pick in the 1st round, pick 1-32. So I thought hey since its pretty slow right now we should do it to. To make it easier I think we should limit it to the 1990 draft tell present. With that we will start in reverse order 32 all the way down to the 1st pick in round one. Say a player that was drafted 32 overall and once we get 5 votes on the same player for that spot we move to the next pick.

To help you out and see who was picked where in the 1st round here you go.
http://www.nfl.com/draft/history/fulldraft

And in the years there wasnt 32 picks in round 1... we will still count the couple picks in round 2 as #31 and 32.

can we count brett "the greatest" favre? he was taken at 33 overall in 1991 by the falcons. I guess my other player would be Drew Brees, no one that strong at 32 in the last 18 years.

Yeah, 32 is horrible. Also it is tough starting at 32 when in 1990 there were only 25 picks in the first round.

Ladanian Tomlinson is the best number 5 pick since 1990.

I'll post more later, takes awhile to shuffle through 18 drafts and deciding who the best is

For pick 31, ESPN will say Todd Heap (and as an ASU fan I want to say him as well), but it has got to go to Nnamdi Asomugha.

Patrick Kerney was the 30th overall pick in 1999 and Reggie Wayne was the 30th overall in 2001. Has Keith Bulluck had a better career than Kerney or Wayne?

Gay Ork Wang
04-03-2008, 08:35 PM
well imo Wayne is one of the Top receivers in the game. But he has P. Manning throwing him the ball. He is a great player but i just dont know how good he really is.

Kerney is a great DE but IMO not as great as Bulluck, who always was kind of like the main piece for the Titans D.

It would be but unforunatly to make it easier and not have to look back through so many drafts to remember exactly what pick someone was taking we are doing 1990-present.

If we're only going since 1990 then the title shouldn't be best pick "ever"

Yea your right... I couldnt really think of a title for it. If a mod would please change it to say Best Draft Pick Ever Since 1990 For Each Pick In Round 1.

Either Barnett or Mangold...#29 sucks.

I will add to what Renji said. Yes we know Brees wasn't a 1st round pick but do to the fact that there wasn't 32 picks in round 1 we had to go into the 2nd round a couple years. This made it equal so we had the same amount of players to choose from for each pick.

Uh... seriously... all caps?
Cortez Kennedy and Steve McNair are the obvious easy picks. They both had great careers and had a DPOY and a OPOY in their careers. But neither guy was truly dominant for a large portion of their career. Fitz is already showing that he can be unstoppable and I think he will be one of the best WR's when all is said and done.

That said. Fitz is 24, has 2 pro bowls and is one of the most dominant WR's in the game. He has never had QB play that was at a really high level but has still managed to be dominant. If he can stay healthy, he is good for 100 receptions, 1400 yds and 10 tds and it's scary to think of what will happen if Leinart becomes good. He doesn't have Randy Moss numbers, but then again, he hasn't had a Dante Culpepper qb.

Kevin Hardy was a number TWO pick and he was a bust for his draft position.

Andre Johnson is good but Fitzgerald has more td's and only 300 less yards in one full season less.

Dante Culpepper was the NFL's consensus number 3 QB behind manning/brady before Chris Gamble turned his knee into shredded mess. I don't think Freeney has ever been a consensus top 3 defensive end some how.

Then again without Moss CPep wasn't much chop.

I don't know. I'm going to have to go with Freeney for the reason that he's a serviceable defensive end and has shown a fair amount of consistency up until the last two years. It wasn't long ago that he was considered the best pure pass rusher in the game.
