Well, they're both pretty crappy game coaches, but Self is by far the lesser of too evils...When I watch Memphis, it looks like they don't have a coach

I think Rose is gonna take it to the Jayhawks, he seems to be getting better as the tournament goes, plus he has only missed 3 FTs in his last 3 games

Just like Stephen Curry...err wait...
Oh, just like Hansborough...err wait...
You guys are kidding yourselves if you think we'll roll over and let Rose manhandle us...Everyone is saying the same things now that everyone said prior to the UNC game...It will be a great game.
This is the last I'm going to post on the subject because I know I have some pretty big homer glasses..Good night and good luck

Memphis blew everyone out they played, they dominated UCLA just as well, somebody has to pick a winner, just relish the underdog role if you have to...I never understand why everybody always wants respect for their team so much, if you win will respect even matter?
With that being said Memphis is too tall and athletic for Kansas to play with them...Their interior defense is tough and they score at a fast pace, they only lost one game this year by a few pts and other then that they have been great, im going with them as I think their team is really special.
Or maybe im just hating on the Jayhawks because Im a Texas fan and I dont want them to get any respect:rolleyes:
Oh and Memphis shot 87% from the FT line vs UCLA which was supposedly their only weakness, they will probably be the favorite to win and deservedly so.

Memphis are men amongst boys out there. Not surprised at all that they manhandled UCLA. I like Kansas, I hope they pull it out. KU plays some pretty good defense, and I wont put anything by them. They manhandled UNC, like nobodies business. Gonna be a good one.

Yeah, and we have a NFL thread. Do we still abandon a super bowl thread, who cares? It's the nation championship.

Kansas destroyed the #1 seeded team in the country, how is that struggling?
I'm surprised Memphis made it this far to tell you the truth. Kansas shoudl take it.

I'm gonna go with Memphis, but that's based almost entirely off the fact that the Kansas fans on here are really annoying. If there were annoying Memphis fans on here I'd probably just root for the arena to explode.

Memphis has so much size and athleticism, and I think that, along with the fact that they're an amazing defensive team, will help them. It's pick your poison, if you keep a big guy on Douglas-Roberts, its a mismatch on Rose. If you slide your SG or SF over to guard Rose, you leave a mismatch on Douglas-Roberts. And Antonio Anderson is 6'6 as well. It's so tough to find good matchups on defense against Memphis. They've been hitting their free throws lately too. I definately got Memphis.

Memphis has the size, athleticism, and the swagger. Plus, this feels like '03 all over again, except with a worse Kansas team and a more stacked Freshman-led team. Plus, Memphis looked dominant throughout their game. I don't know. I'd really like to see Kansas pull it off, but they're the definite underdog in this one.
As for whomever asked who can guard Rose, while no one can, Kansas at least has the rotational guard depth to combat Rose and CDR. At the very least they could get them a little tired. None of their main guards, even Rush, means as much to the team as CDR and Rose do to Memphis. If they can get Rose into foul trouble, we'll see. Hopefully it'll be a great game.

Memphis FTW. Last play of the game will be Brandon Rush (#25, remember Michael Lee) spotting up in the corner for 3 to win it (down by 2) but then Joey Dorsey who just missed 2 free throws to clinch it comes seemingly out of nowhere to block it out of bounds in an eerily similar finish to Kansas' loss to Syracuse in '03.

Gimme Memphis. Probably the two most talented teams in the country, but Calipari>>>>>>>Self
i'm taking memphis but it isnt cuz of calipari. He's a great recruiter but isnt that great of a coach. Self>Calipari but Memphis is too talented and has to win so i win 2 tournament pools.
I dont understand people saying "Kansas struggled against UNC" and "Memphis dominated UCLA". Kansas was up 40-12 on the the supposed number one team in the country. Sure, they let UNC back in the game, but everyone knows how easy it is to lose focus with bad shot selection with that big of a lead. In the end, Kansas got it done and still won by 18 points. To me, it showed that Kansas has the ability to be brilliant enough to rape quality opponents and that they have the mental strength to to switch gears despite giving up a huge lead.
Memphis was also in control in the game against UCLA, but I'd say they were far from dominating. Memphis pushed the lead up late in the game, but for the first 3/4 of the game, it was still anybody's game. Rose and CDR are just absolute beats though. Them running the fast break is absolutely scary.
However, with that said, I'm picking KU. Memphis sometimes seem to play out of control and I think that when they run into a solid defensive team as Kansas, it will hurt them. UCLA was also a great defensive team, but they didn't have as many athletic players imo, and there were too many mismatches that clearly favored Memphis. Rose and CDR are heralding all the praise, but I think people will be surprised by how fast KU is, even compared to Memphis.

That's exactly what I was thinking while watching the game...Memphis plays almost too fast at times, and I think if UCLA played more agressive defense, rather than their typical passive style, I think they could have come away with a win...Rose and CDR will get their's...but I think KU can slow them down just enough...Regardless, it should be a great game

I don't think Memphis really plays out of control, other than Rose who takes some questionable shots at times.
I'm torn because Ty Lawson and Joey Dorsey are both from Maryland. Dorsey graduated my senior year and I remember him tearing it up in the state championship game. I gotta go with Memhis though because I think they are a little tougher. It just seems all of their players have a swagger about themselves. Basically if it was a street fight , Memphis would pound Kansas. Its gonna be a good game though. Two of the most athletic teams I have ever seen in a final.
Shane P. Hallam
04-07-2008, 08:15 AM
Well, Ty Lawson isn't in the final :P
I think it comes to, can Kansas score on Memphis' defense? If they can get hot, I think they can put it away early.

Prediction: Kansas wins a close game and after the final whistle Bill Self runs to the nearest camera, gives the finger, then walks away.

I've got to go with Kansas, their style of play is ferocious. I love D Rose as a prospect though. There's a part of me seriously considering if a team would take Lamar Odom's 14 million buck expirer (and dominant play this year) plus some of the Laker bench for a high lottery pick and subsequently Rose. I don't think Odom gets resigned with Bynum's max contract coming up anyway.
And then I woke up. I guess I've been spoiled by the Gasol trade.

EXACTLY...and other teams play too slow, and the end result is teams not keeping up more times then none.
