View Full Version : Worst Draft Pick At The Spot They Were Picked (Since 1990)

Alright so we did the Best draft draft pick at the spot they were picked (since 1990) and now its back with the worst draft. This is for the 1st round picks 1-32 we pick a player and once he gets 5 votes he takes that spot. For years there wasnt 32 picks in round one we will go into the 2nd round.

We are trying to come up with the worst possible draft otherwise we fail. Wether they sucked, got busted and never played, or hurt, whatever the reason they better be awful.

With a first round running back, you expect a starter, at least. Duckett never secured a starting job, in 6 years. He averaged a whopping 35 yards per game thus far, and that number isn't likely to increase.

We are looking for those who really were awful.... Ahmad Carroll as an example. Or did nothing like Nathan Davis - 3 Years, 6 Games, 0 Tackles, 0 Ints. I wouldn't say Duckett was awful and did nothing... theres worse and thats our goal.

I will give Rashaun Woods a 3rd vote... congrats on being awful

In Atlanta, the team that drafted him, he had over 2,100 yards rushing in four years as a backup to Warrick Dunn. He also had 31 rushing touchdowns in those four years. Overall that is not good, and it might be considered a small bust. But it is not the worst pick eighteen in the past eighteen years.

But we're constraining it within the framework of the 18th pick since 1990. and in that range, the 18th pick was a cavalcade of mediocrity. There really hasn't been anyone who was flat out awful. TJ Ducket was on the bottom end of the range. Ironically, if he were something like the second overall pick, he wouldn't even be in the running.

1990: Tony Bennett DE 64.5 sacks

Hard to argue with Ryan Leaf at #2. Or Rogers or Gallery, or Blair Thomas.

The reason the OP listed since 1990 is this:
But there weren't 3 Hall of Famer, all time greats taken right after their bad picks.

Imagine taking a total bust at #2, with Barry Sanders, Deion Sanders, and Derrick Thomas on the board yet?
That's what the Packers did by taking the hulked out steroid machine blocker Tony Mandarich.
I've never seen a single blocker turn a franchise around like I have a dominant RB or pass rushing LB like Derrick Thomas.
And a shut-down corner? THE shutdown corner?

Still hurts.........

But I feel your pain Jets fans for Blair Thomas over the too slow Emmitt Smith.
And your pain for Ken O'Brien over Dan Marino.......

Well, an interesting question would be, would you rather have a spectacular bust who burns off the team in a couple of seasons, like Ryan Leaf? Or a prolonged tantilizing bust who drags your team into a miasma of mediocrity over several seasons, like a David Carr?

OMFG Dont even get me started on him. Not only could he not cover but he got burnt all over the field and I believe he was actually scared to lay a tackle. The fact that we swapped him straight out for Rashaun Woods says it all.

Yeah, you only had to deal with him for a year though. Count me in as a vote for the Candyman. Sammy Davis is utter trash.

Well, an interesting question would be, would you rather have a spectacular bust who burns off the team in a couple of seasons, like Ryan Leaf? Or a prolonged tantilizing bust who drags your team into a miasma of mediocrity over several seasons, like a David Carr?

At least with Carr you can bring up other circumstances that may or may not have something to do with him being a bum...Leaf alienated the entire locker room, I havent seen too many top qbs get drafted and the players tell the coach they hate him, he had steroid rages during interviews which pretty much sums up his career and attitude, and he was horrible at every single stop he has went to..At least Carr can be a lifetime backup, Leaf had alot more physical tools then Carr and couldnt cut it to be a 2nd stringer for somebody.

Following this unsuccessful stint in San Francisco, he was traded to the Miami Dolphins and subsequently released. In 2001, he saw limited action as a backup with the Arena Football League's Los Angeles Avengers. He also played for the Memphis Maniax of the XFL in Memphis, TN in 2001, the only season of the XFL. Ahmad Carroll was chosen for pick 25. Here is some info about his career. He played in 34 games total, in those 34 games he had 33 penalties thrown against him. 26 of those 33 were pass interference, illegal contact and holding. 256 penalty yards called against him as a result of 24 infractions that weren't declined. He allowed 11 touchdowns and had 3 interceptions. Best move of the century for any sports franchise was the Green Bay Packers cutting Ahmad Carroll :D Do not fear, whenever in doubt Carroll is here, to single handedly lose games for the Green Bay Packers.

Not trying to be a homer here, but I dont think Ki Jana should be on here. The only reason hes considered a "bust" is because he got injured. Is that any reason for considering someone a bad pick though? It's not like he was trying to get hurt. Ki Jana was a really good prospect. 5-10 225 and ran a 4.3 something forty? Hmmm isn't this supposed to be worst pick at said pick??? Charlie Frye is the most god awful football player to ever be drafted at #67

Charlie Frye couldn't hold the jock strap of Tim Couch. Couch was put in a much much worse situation and sill out played Charlie Frye. Per where they were picked, yes, Couch was a worse pick, but hardly a worse quarterback.

I posted this on the first page since I started this...

I also started "The best draft pick at the spot they were taking round 1 only"

http://draftcountdown.com/forum/showthread.php?t=20549

I didnt get lazy on that one like I did on this one, look on page 1 post 1 it has all the guys we picked and tons of honorable mentions + pictures. Some spots in round 1 were pretty weak so they were questionable picks and we only went back to the 1990-present otherwise to many drafts to look through.
