Yeah. I was always a fan, but this is a good move by him.

I hope we dont go QB round 1, but I wont mind Flacco in round 2.

Wow. This should be interesting. Will it be Kyle Boller, a rookie or maybe Troy Smith starting next year for them?

Good decision by Steve though. He was going downhill, so he's leaving while he is still remembered as a good player.

I think you guys will miss him, there is a 100% chance that who ever we put out at QB against you guys, they will do better then McNair did against u guys last year.

Last couple of years have been pain full to watch.

i like Troy Smith, at one point b4 the draft i had him rated above Russell, but Im not sure if they should avoid qb entirely bc of him.

Flacco would be a nice addition. I have him rated #1 out of all the qbs this draft class.

yeah no round 1 QB for baltimore. please. we have 9 picks this year so we could get either Flacco, Henne, Johnson, or even Brohm. The possibilities are endless.

Wow... two of the great play through injury players (Brett and Steve) are now gone... It was nice having them...

It'll be interesting to see in the coming years whether it was Billick screwing up QBs or the front office making bad decisions.

Maybe they'll draft Ainge in the first.

I really see them trying to get QB Matt Ryan now. Unless they feel Troy Smith who is 5-11 to be their QB of the future. If not Ryan, they will most definately go for a Joe Flacco or Brian Brohm in the 2nd.

bigbluedefense
04-17-2008, 10:39 AM
they should take DRC with the 8, and Flacco in the 2nd.

He'll be remembered as a pathetic football player as long as Im around!

yea he was horrible this last season and the last couple of games in his 1st season in Bmore. As long as we dont go QB round 1 I am fine. I want Flacco in round 2

I think Troy Smith is going to be a really good QB. I might be in the minority, but I say throw him in there and see what he can do.

Troy could be good, but they'd have to commit to him for a year or so before he could start coming into his own. I don't think they'll give him that much time if they draft Matt Ryan. But I think Troy might actually end up being like Bulger or Delhomme or Anderson, Hasselbeck, etc. - he'll not start until some years later after being a career backup with no expectations and then turn into a quality starting QB.

I don't think it will happen, but Troy could beat out Boller for the starting job simply b/c the team doesn't believe in Boller and b/c Troy has such strong leadership skills the squad could rally behind him. But realistically Boller's experience over Troy's inexperience will get him the job for however brief a period until the young guys get their shots.

one of the overlooked reasons on why i think ryan is going to be the pick is that theres a new coach in there and you can't tell me that any new coach wouldnt like to bring in "his guy" at QB.

boller has proven that hes not very good and troy hasnt proven much of anything yet. should they draft ryan and then troy does step it up, then they just have an anderson/quinn or brees/rivers scenario and what team wouldnt like that? to have 2 capable starting QBs isnt a bad thing.....backup and trade value are high

Now here is the ultimate question, HoF? When he was great, he was a top-3 QB in the league, but when he was the worst... Ask Ravens fans.

Good question. I doubt it though - he was an above average QB but he wasn't great :(

Most great players don't normally end on a high note though. The only players I can think of that went out on top (i.e. winning the Super Bowl) were Elway and Bettis, and even they weren't performing their best. McNair was one of the toughest players ever. Even though his numbers weren't the best, he was known for more of just being that guy who made his team go and that's what people should look at. I think McNair should make it, but I would say it realistically has a better chance of not happening.

Super Bowl XXXIV was the pinnacle in his career and McNair had one of the greatest if not the greatest performance for a Super Bowl QB that lost. Most people remember McNair as a Titan, not a Raven. Even these past 2 seasons I still think of the Titans when I think of McNair. I will miss this man.

He won an MVP and was a yard away from a super bowl.

After hearing there are many teams enamoured with Ryan I think he is a lock not to go top 8 with the retirement of McNair.

I believe the starting job goes to Boller by default. Doubt the rookie whether Ryan or someone else will step in there from day one and well Troy should challenge but I don't know whether he's quite ready just yet. One thing is for sure and that is they probably won't have the same starting QB for all 16 games.

Unfortunately I will always associate him with us and the worst/best record we ever had regular season. Now we could hit new lows in the next 20 years to make me forget about it, but as far as my scope goes currently i'll always be reminded of great season couldn't pull us through the playoffs, and being excited for the next season to start then leaving it in the hands of Kyle Boller....Now that this is resolved we can finally truly look ahead without the ? will McNair be healthy, perform, and for how long?

He had a great career. I don't know if he's headed for the hall, but I'll always remember him as one of the most dynamic QBs in the league.

I doubt he goes to the HOF, only 2 pro bowl appearences, a league MVP, perhaps if he got a ring he would.

im shocked that he retired. all ive been hearing is how he has been working really hard this offseason to play and lead the team. he must be having real trouble after his surgery.

Its time though, im sick of hearing the airline Air McNair commercials on the radio...I was on the road all day everyday for my job and they constantly came on and during the season I got pretty worked up hearing them...

I loved McNair's toughness. Guy was just a warrior. It seems like he was always injured, but still battled through it and played well. Must be something about those Mississippi quarterbacks. As for Hall of Fame, I have to say nay on McNair. He was a great QB, but not HOF great.

I don't think he gets in, the Hall bases alot on championships and even though he and the Titans were a yard away and he's been to the playoffs 6 times still no championships.
McNair's stats aren't particularly overwhelming either he threw for a little over 30,000 yards which aren't enough to even crack the top 20 all time and either are his 174 touchdown passes.

Thanks for the memories Steve....and this Titans fan will forgive you for the last two years as a Raven lol. 1 of 3 or 4 QB's with 30,000+ passing yards and 3,500 rush yards. There were tons of plays he made with his legs that were just amazing.
