If Aaron rodgers was not currently on your roster and was in this years draft who would you pick?

Earlier in the month, 18 personnel people representing 16 teams were asked to rank the quarterbacks in this draft as well as Rodgers on a 1-to-4 basis. Four points were awarded for a first-place vote, three for a second and so on.

The lack of regard for Rodgers was readily apparent.

Rodgers received one second-place vote, three thirds and 11 fourths, and three voters even placed him behind either Brodie Croyle of Alabama or Charlie Whitehurst of Clemson. Rodgers had 20 points, far behind Leinart (62), Young (48) and Cutler (45).

Leinart has far greater pedigree and size than Rodgers. Not only are Young and Cutler bigger, they're also better athletes with more upside.

"(Rodgers) doesn't have more great potential that doesn't show," Hall of Fame coach Bill Walsh said last fall. "The fear for Aaron Rodgers is he'll just plateau right at this kind of average level. You'd like to think that if you're spending a (first-round) pick you'd get someone special."

McCarthy spent months evaluating Rodgers a year ago and recommended that San Francisco draft Alex Smith instead with the No. 1 pick. There have been many instances where the hiring of a new coach turns out to be the kiss of death for a young quarterback

thats a great point, and i believe all these 3 qb's who will go first rd have that upside and potential to be great, where as me personally, and some others think that rogers wont be great...


now the dilemma is do you keep him and draft other positions of need, let him get to where he peaks at where he could be a solid starting qb, or take the first rd pick this year on a top quality qb who could be great, because if rogers ends up being cade mcnown at best, and leinart, young, cutler all end up being great they will regret passing one up if they had doubts on rogers......


PERSONALLY id draft a qb, keep rogers on the bench another year, hope favre comes back then trade rogers next year to a team who needs a qb, by then you could get a 2nd rd for him, and end up better off

I wouldn't spend a 1st on a QB (at least none of these 3).....too risky. So that means I'd go with Clemens in the 2nd. The only one I would consider in the 1st is Cutler, but not at 5. Maybe at 25.

I dont, the only comparison I see between the two is that they are white and have big arms.

They have completely different mechanics, throwing motions, and releases. Different playing styles, different mentality.

I don't see Rodgers having as much of a probability of plauteauing as Leinart. Leinart will never be special while Rodgers ahs a godd arm, solid athleticism and good mind.

I picked Leinhart...why'd you put A. Rogers in there and leave out Smith and Campbell?I basically created the topic for the packers situation. They will likely have 2 of the 3 top QBs in the mix with there number 5 pick and how this might affect there choice.
Basically it will come down to whether they believe rodgers can be a franchise QB for them vs. this years QBs potential to be a franchiser.
That position can make or break a team for years sometimes decades so it will be a big decision.

I voted for Cutler. He's like a mix of Young and Lienart, kinda sorta, ok not really. But he's got more upside than Lienart, but not the boom bust factor Young has, but still a little bust factor.

Ted Thompson hasn't ruled out the possiblility of drafting a quarterback if he's the best player available.

That said, out of all those guys, I'd take Brodie Croyle in the second or third.

There's no point in debating what they'd do if they didn't have Rodgers, because they do, and they're not going to be able to move the guy for anything resembling the value of what they spent on him to make room to spend another top pick on a QB again this year.
The Pack will likely have either D'Brick or AJ Hawk sitting in their lap when it comes time to draft. Tempting as it might be to snag whoever is left between Young, Leinart and Cutler, I can't see it happening with Rodgers on the roster and bigger needs and great prospects to fill them in Ferguson and Hawk. It'd be a waste, a luxury pick, unless they managed to trade down a few slots and pick up some extra picks in the process. The only guy I could see them grabbing out of those top three is Young, just because his ceiling is so high. The other two wouldn't be enough of an upgrade over Rodgers potential to merit passing on Ferguson or Hawk. They've already got a guy they can plug in a QB, Young is the only one that seems to have the gamebreaker potential to take over games like Favre.
Realistically, I see them looking at a guy like Omar Jacobs in round 3.

For the Lions I'd say Jay Cutler. Matt Leinart reminds me way too much of Joey Harrington (average arm, pretty boy-softy) and Vince Young would require a drastic change on the offense, and wouldn't really fit what we need.

I would take Matt Lineart I think he would look good in an Oakland uniform. He could be the franchise quarterback we need, the Lineart to Moss conncetion I would love to see that happen. If not Lineart I would take Vince Yonug I like scrambling quarterbacks, and if not Young I think I would take Jacobs he could be a good starter down the road.

Terrible Comparison. Harrington has a pretty strong arm, and a lot more physical potential than Leinart. He was developed horribly in the NFL though.
