View Full Version : Scott, Why do you not like Dorsey to STL?

I have come to the conclusion that the Rams can't go wrong with this pick. For me the best case scenario would be to trade down one spot with Atlanta, get an extra 3rd round pick and select Chris Long with the 3rd overall pick.
But if they do select Dorsey, would it really be that bad? I mean Dorsey and Carriker inside would be insane and almost impossible to block one on one. It effects the hole defense, those 2 guys would take pressure off of the DEs like Leonard Little and James Hall/draft pick. Plus Dorsey and Carriker are great at locking up blockers, I don't know how many times last year I saw the opposing team offensive line lock up the Rams linebackers and the runningback roams free for a 20-30 yard run. Getting Dorsey in my opinion would allow the linebackers to roam free to make the tackles needed.
The Rams have what looks like a good player in Clifton Ryan, but he can still be a pivotal part of the defense in the future. Glover is probably in his last year, the Rams have stated that they only want him in on about 15-20 plays per game next season. On obvious run downs, the Rams could play with the line a little, having Carriker move over to RE and sliding Ryan at the NT spot with Dorsey and Little/Adeyanju right next to him. That to me would be a killer run defense.

IMO...Dorsey is the best defensive player in this draft...you can not go wrong with Dorsey. But if they were to select Chris Long that would be a smart pick as well....but Dorsey is the better defensive prospect, IMO...
what they do, however, will affect how the top 10 figures out...

I think Gholston provides the pass rush they want, moreso than Chris Long, but they also need to stop the run.
Kick Carriker out to LDE and bring in Dorsey to play next to Clifton Ryan and I think that is a successful pick that takes care of need #1...stop the run.

Carriker would play NT while Dorsey plays UT.

Well you can't look at the past draft busts to determine what you do with this pick.

i don't like the fact that if we draft Dorsey and Leave both Carriker and Dorsey at the DT position, i don't trust James Hall or Victor Adeyanju to be our starting DE

Carriker would play NT while Dorsey plays UT.
That'd be interesting, when they could play Cliff Ryan at the Nose, and bounce Carriker outside and have the Dorsey, Glover, Wroten combo play that UT spot.
I'll be honest, I watched three Rams games last year, and Carriker looked a little overmatched at defensive tackle when I saw them...just didn't see him make lots of plays. I figure he'd be better off on the left side as a strong side type defensive end because while he isn't an elite pass rusher, he is a hustle guy who can get into the backfield.

IMO can't go wrong with Dorsey or Long. I think their run defense get a lot better with Dorsey and that their interior pass rush will be top notch. But by getting Long their edge rush will be very good.

I think Dorsey is the perfect pick since their run defense is so horrible ... Dorsey would more quickly address that problem ... he could also provide some interior pass rush, too ... Adeyanju, Hall, and Leonard Little at DE is better then whatever they have at DT right now ... Carriker is good, but still very unproven(it's not like he was a stud as a rookie) ... so -- Dorsey makes the most sense, IMO ...

Carriker and Ryan at DT provides at least some hope for the future. They might as well not even field any DEs...the ones they have are backup caliber at best.
It comes down to how you rate the players. I think most agree Glenn Dorsey is the BPA, but is he THAT much better than Chris Long? I don't believe so. He'd fulfill much more of a need and he's still an awesome player. Glenn Dorsey only fulfills half of that equation. Could they use him? Sure. Does he make as much sense as Long? IMO, no.
Now if they believe he's CLEARLY better than Chris Long, go ahead and take him. I'm not really of that opinion though. It's pretty close.
