I liked ESPN better for the first round but then in the second they get behind and just talk about random stuff while picks are going on. NFLN stayed up to date in the second round and that is probably what I will watch tomorrow.

I'm getting NFL Network for next year (**** you Comcast! But I'll pay anyway).

Awful Announcing noted that there were multiple occasions, such as the Mendenhall pick, in which ESPN did not show the pick live.

It also annoyed me that they would show the prospects talking on the phone and celebrating prior to the pick. Ruins the tension.

NFLN's coverage was vastly superior. For one they actually showed the picks and weren't 15 minutes behind the draft. Besides, Kiper is the only one on the ESPN set that knows what he is talking about.

I thought both did the 2nd round horribly.

At times they would play commercials over picks, on both stations.

Adam Schefter is quickly going to realize exactly what Chris Berman realized a couple years ago. People don't like it when you know what the pick is before the Commish even says it, and they like it even less when you insist on telling them.

Besides that, I liked NFLN's coverage today.

Im watching it on ESPN for the Reason...The ESPNHD Comes in better than the NFLNHD Channel. For Somereason I get this Scribble on the top of the picture when i watch NFLNHD it makes me mad so I dont like to watch it on HD. So ESPN.

Yes. Although I didnt get to see Chris Long Picked because I have a Dish and we had a Quick Thunder Strom during Pick 2 and most of 3. After that We were fine.

ESPN, unfortunately. Honestly, I've never realized until now how bad Chris Berman is. He adds nothing to the broadcast and is simply past his time.

NFL network- no question. espn is a total flashy show with personalities. they hardly talk x's and o's football and rarely assess players that well. also they have these stupid little montages all the time which piss me off so much.

Before ESPN was good talked about football how they played and stuff. This year it was a let down. I guess since they don't have 15 min to evalute every pick, it makes it a little harder.

I've been watching both, but I'm gravitating towards NFL Network. Chris Berman is just downright unlistenable anymore. He has no clue, from saying the Bills should go TE in the first, to speculating that the Falcons were possibly trading up for Brohm when they traded up for Baker.

I agree with earlier poster, though. I don't like Schefter giving away the picks before they happen. There is no element of surprise with him.

Please stop being a douchebag and not tell us what tha next pick is.

i've watched ESPN for year and the last few years i've peeked at NFLN, but this year without a conscious decision i've gone to NFLN 95% and i'm totally happy.

i do enjoy Kuiper and Steve Young, but short Jaime Dukes and Marshall Faulk, NFLN i s way better.

This is going to be my LAST year watching ESPN, they were terrible this year...Half the time between each pick they were looking around confused like they didn't know whose turn it was to speak, they looked uncomfortable at times, half of it didn't looked smooth it looked uneasy like it was their first time being on tv...Commentary was just bad.

BamaFalcon59

By default, i watched ESPN, and it was god-awful. I can't stand Berman and the stupid ass noises, i can't stand the fact that sometimes they tip off the picks, they zoom in on the players while they're on the phone, no surprise, no analysis, Keyshawn spewing off every three minutes on how every team needs a WR.. it was awful.

The commercials between every two picks were horrible, the fact that they stayed talking when the picks were being made was horrible, all in all it was just bad. They were trying to make every cent they could out of the huge ratings the draft brings, and it just made me hate Coors light.

I like Kiper but NFLN was far better than ESPN. Mayock is a stud. He knew what nearly every pick was gonna be as soon as the team was on the clock. We would say " I thinkthe pick will be player x because ........." and he was on the money nearly every pick. Schefter seems to have gotten ala cart access to team war room or something and that was pretty annoying but otherwise the overall coverage was excellent.

# 1, I have Cablevision so I dont have NFL Network, but even if i did I think I would stay with ESPN as old habits die hard. I remember in the late 80s (when the draft was mid week) staying home from school to watch the draft, and I have been hooked on Mel Kiper ever since. But I too could do without Keyshawn and Berman.

04-28-2008, 11:57 AM
i watch both this weekend, i like the coverage on NFLN, but ESPN is alot more quick with the picks. and you do not know whats happening during the commercials on NFLN, there is no side and underbars. So i guess i like them both

AaronGrayisKing

Espn's second day coverage was HORRIBLE! If I have to see those ridiculous reporters talk about picks anymore I'm gonna throw my tv through the wall.

Honestly, it ruined the draft.

Espn needs to have Trey Wingo host and cut down on all the people around. I'd like Wingo, Jaws and Kiper. Thats it!

NFLN was overall better but not without issues. I agree that Schefter doesn't need to break picks right b4 we hear them. Also, Jamie Dukes and Faulkner need to be ousted from the draft coverage. I'd like Mayock, Eisen and Davis.

NFLN also needs to figure out some way to get picks displayed when at commercial. Ridiculous if you ask me.

Maybe its just me, but I can do without speaking to coaches, drafted players and looking at war rooms. Just breakdown players, show footage, show good and bad, give me analysis.... Not Matt Ryan saying he's excited to be a Falcon.....

UH yea, we figured that.

I switched back and forth. Seemed like espn missed the boat on day two with too many commercials, missed picks and those dumb newspaper writers huddled in a half circle. Next year, I'll stick with NFLN. On NFLN, at least on day two into the late rounds they were still discussing the players being selected. ESPN seemed to lose interest on day two.

Before this year, I've always watched ESPN, but thought I'd give NFLN a shot and I am glad I did.

After the first day, ESPN turns more into a talk show rather than the draft. The coverage on NFLN was much better, imo.

I really like Kiper, but I can't stand Berman or Keyshawn anymore. NFLN had it's problems too. Schefter saying the picks before they were announced was really stupid. We get it, you have inside information, how great for you, but don't ruin the draft for us jackass.

The biggest knock on NFLN for me was Jamie Dukes. He would rant about the stupidest stuff and be dead wrong and still argue. There was a big argument towards the end of day two that was just stupid and I kept hoping he'd shut up.

NFLN > ESPN now, but I do like Kiper a lot more.

Oh, and if Jamie Dukes uses the word "power pig" again I'm going to blow something up!

Dear Espn Execs,

Please take the round table of reporter dutchbags and lock them in a room somewhere and keep them from interrupting my draft....

Warm Regards!

Gravedigger42
04-28-2008, 03:57 PM
Yea the round table thing sucked and was pointless. I like the NFLN duo of former GM's for some "perspective" but overall both networks had too many commentators. A guy like Trey or Rich, then your Kiper/Mayock guy, and maybe one other is all you need. Too many idiots fighting for face time just to regurgitate what the real experts already said.

SeanTaylorRIP
04-28-2008, 04:04 PM
ESPN first day, NFL N 2nd day. ESPN kills NFL N on day one coverage but day 2 all they do is talk about day 1 while NFLN has good analysis from Mayock. I will say the draft on ESPN HD looked great, while NFLN HD looked like poop.

trekindude
04-28-2008, 04:11 PM
The NFLN argument over the value of special teams was really grating. We get it, they didn't train like the rest of you. But I mean they missed like 10 picks and wasted like 40 minutes on this. And kept coming back to it every time the stat guys found something out. Otherwise, I think the day one coverage was pretty good on NFLN.

AaronGrayisKing
04-28-2008, 04:59 PM
I agree that Day 1 ESPN was the best. I agree that the HD ESPN was top notch.

I would also like to add that ESPN's tickers are much cleaner than NFLN. I really like the presentation of ESPN.

How do we let ESPN and NFLN in on our discussion. We need this rectified in time for next year!

ive been watching the draft for years. and obviously ive been watching ESPN. and i planned to this year. but the very first time it went to commercial, I flipped over to NFLN just to see. and basically i kept flipping between the stations during commercials. and i have to admit, i found myself staying with NFLN for far longer stretches.

you gotta give it to Kiper because he knows every single player. but beyond that, he doesnt know anything. and he is awful fitting a player with a team. he just doesnt have enough knowledge about what kind of players are needed to be the right fit for particular teams and the schemes they run. I found Mayock to be much better in this regard. he also knew every single player, but he is a football guy that can talk X's and O's and knows the fundamentals of each position.

Berman is pretty much useless. Mort gives you some insider info here or there. Jaws is the best thing ESPN has going for them.

I found the NFLN crew to have much better knowledge of the game. And did a better job of breaking down the strengths and weaknesses of the players. Their biggest problem was some of the arguments which seemed to go on for awhile.

And dont get me started when both coverages woudl go back to the "studio". the NFLN was FAR superior in this regard. having charlie casserly, a guy who was a GM and a scout, easily surpassed the PTI intern and the other morons in the ESPN roundtable.

ESPN has the better graphics and for the most part better highlights of the players. But thats it. I thought the NFLN crew was far more knowledgable.
