Curtis Johnson (OLB/DE)
Eric Foster (DE/DT)
Kerry Brown (OL)
Tommy Blake (DE)
Dan Zeidman (punter)
Luke Swan (WR)

It is time to stockpile D-linemen. That would be one heck of an UDFA list, wouldn't it?;)

What is your list?

I think you'll get some of your wish, Bill Polian said on the Day Two Draft presser (up on Colts.com right now) that they will sign two defensive tackles they really like and a rush end.

I'm vastly biased, but I'd like to see a couple of guys from Eastern Illinois make it to camp. Micah Rucker who's about 6' 5" WR and Donald Thomas at LB.

The Colts have already signed at least one within one hour of the drafts conclusion. Samuel Gigučre , who had been a potential CFL prospect was signed by the Colts. He played at Sherbrooke.

Foster to Colts
By Suzanne Halliburton | Sunday, April 27, 2008, 07:26 PM

Texas cornerback Brandon Foster agreed to a free-agent deal with the Indianpolis Colts Sunday after the draft was concluded, he told the American-Statesman.

Foster ran a 4.28-second 40-yard dash last month at UT’s pro timing day. Although he’s only 5-foot-7 — about two inches shorter than general NFL preferences — Foster proved to be one of the fastest players in the country.

http://www.star-telegram.com/332/story/575649.html
CB Brandon Foster, Texas

Size: 5-7, 195

High school: Arlington Bowie

Background: Former top recruit and track star at Bowie.... Starter his final year at Texas.... Recorded 38-inch vertical leap at UT Pro Day.... Second-team All-Big 12 selection.... Had school-record three returns for TDs this season (two interceptions, one fumble).... Nephew of former Steelers and Arkansas running back Barry Foster.

Future in Dallas?: Very possible as free agent or a late-round pick because of the Cowboys' needs at corner.

Foster = returner?

Geo

Maybe. Sounds like an interesting corner prospect, nonetheless.

Also, can't find a solid link, but it appears the Colts have signed Connecticut DT Dan Davis (6-1/284).

If you guys get the chance, listen to the Bill's and Tony's Press Conference on Colts.com

Bill describes the picks and clarifies their future roles.

He also mentioned that he signed 2 DTs and a Rush-end in the UFA.

Colts | C. Johnson agrees to terms
Sun, 27 Apr 2008 19:22:11 -0700

Josh Buchanan, of NFLDraftBible.com, reports the Indianapolis Colts have agreed to terms with undrafted rookie free-agent DE Curtis Johnson (Clark Atlanta). Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Sounds like another talented undersized rush-end.

I wish...I wish for:

Jonathan Hefney, S, Tennessee: A speedy DB that played CB, FS, SS, PR, and KR at the University of Tennessee.

D.J. Hall, WR, Alabama: Small but shifty WR that has great hands could be a great special teamer.

Calvin Dawson, RB, Louisiana-Monroe: Smaller than what you would prefer for a RB, reminds me more of Warrick Dunn...level of compeition is quesionable...would be added comepition for the 3rd spot.

Geo

I think Dawson got into some serious trouble a few months back, that might hurt him. But there are some backs the Colts could check out and bring in, like Rodney Kinlaw of Penn State. Hey, can never have enough Big Ten players, amirite? :p

Was Anthony Aldrigde of Houston drafted? He seems like a real interesting player who could fill multiple niches despite his low weight, what Bill Parcells would call a "satellite player" because you would move him around.

Edit: Aldridge signed with the Denver Broncos. That's interesting, I'm not sure the guy sticks when they drafted Eddie Royal who should handle WR and return duties already.

Zuttah joined running back Ray Rice, for whom he blocked the past three years, as the only Rutgers players taken during the seven rounds of the two-day draft. Rice was selected by the Baltimore Ravens in the second round on Saturday, the 55th overall pick.

That left fellow offensive linemen Pedro Sosa and Mike Fladell, defensive lineman Eric Foster and safety Ron Girault to fend for themselves as free agents, with Foster signing last night with the Colts, according to his agent, Andrew Bondarowicz. All four former Rutgers players entered the weekend with hopes of being drafted.
Very awesome. Good signing for the team, good signing for Foster as the Colts won't make him change positions like some other teams would.

http://media.www.siude.com/media/storage/paper1096/news/2008/04/28/Football/Hill-Bears.Down.For.The.Nfl-3351826.shtml

Hill signed with the Chicago Bears as a free agent moments after the NFL Draft concluded. Joining him in the league will be former SIU offensive tackle Darren Marquez, who inked his name with the Indianapolis Colts.

...

Marquez did not have to sweat it out as long as Hill since the Colts contacted him early in the draft and told him they wanted him in camp.

Marquez said Colts head coach Tony Dungy contacted him and told him the speedy lineman fit the type of mold they like to fill.

"It's a great feeling when you get a call from the head coach telling you he wants you with the team," Marquez said. "I know I can prove I belong at that level and I know this is the best opportunity for me."

Marquez also signed a three-year contract and will report to his mini camp Thursday.
SI draft profile on Marquez (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/football/2008/draft/players/9807.html)

Slightly different numbers from what KFFL has:

NFL | Marquez works out at Pro Day
Wed, 19 Mar 2008 15:11:12 -0700

J.J. Pesavento, of Next Level Scouting, reports University of Southern Illinois OT Darren Marquez worked out at his school's Pro Day Wednesday, March 19. Marquez ran a 5.02 40-yard dash and completed 25 repetitions on the 225-pound bench press. He measured in at 6-foot-4 and 308 pounds.

So far, the list of UDFAs signed by the Colts are:

WR Rudy Burgess, Arizona State
DE Curtis Johnson, Clark Atlanta
SS Jordan Senn, Portland State
WR Sam Giguere, Sherbrooke Canada
CB Brandon Foster, Texas
DT Dan Davis, UCONN

Look at Sam Giguere, he is built like a RB than WR:

Colts sign Kent State DT Colin Ferrell.

http://www.kffl.com/player/19253/nfl

According to some reports he ran a 4.8 40 at 293 and a 35 vertical. Interesting.

Geo
04-28-2008, 09:28 PM
Ferrell sounds very interesting, an agile 6-0/295 team leader with a good motor. I like the Colts exploring small school/lesser known DTs who could fit their scheme as opposed to others, that's a good approach.

Also, although the Colts are stacked at safety, I like the flier on Jamie Silva. We'll see if he makes the roster, but if he does, he's got special teams ace/captain written all over him just like he was at Boston College.

I think he can put on 10 to 15 lbs and be a linebacker. Its probably a better fit for his skill set in the NFL, he just needs to put on some pounds with out losing much speed.

Here's a good video of Eric Foster:

I am still awaiting word on Adam Tafralis, QB, San Jose State. A three year at San Jose State was pretty effichent, but is small for a QB at the next level at only 6'1" which is what he is listed at but more than likely he is some where around 5'11". http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/scoutingreports/qb/adamtafralis.html

Mike Pollak isn't the only Sun Devils player coming to the Colts, it seems the team also signed wide receiver/kick returner Rudy Burgess (http://www.azcentral.com/sports/asu/articles/2008/04/28/20080428asufree-CR.html).

I really like the signings of all these athletic DLs. Obviously, we don't have enough roster space for all of them, but perhaps we can keep some on P.S.

Geo
04-29-2008, 11:58 AM
With the team losing Klecko in free agency, and Darrell Reid likely leaving in free agency next year, it probably does open up a roster spot for a rotational tackle who might also contribute on special teams.

Colts.com is reporting the Colts have now signed 13 undrafted players. Some of these have already been listed by others on this thread.

The Colts' rookie free agents are:

Rudy Burgess, wide receiver,Arizona State
Dan Davis, defensive tackle, Connecticut
Charles Dillon, wide receiver, Washington State
Colin Ferrell, defensive tackle, Kent State
Brandon Foster, defensive back, Texas
Eric Foster, defensive tackle, Rutgers
Samuel Giguere, wide receiver, Sherbrooke (Can.) College
Curtis Johnson, defensive end, Clark College
Darren Marquez, offensive tackle, Southern Illinois
Jordan Senn, linebacker, Portland State;
Jamie Silva, defensive back, Boston College
Chad Simpson, running back, Morgan State
Adam Tafralis, quarterback, San Jose State

Hey, I really like the signing of Chad Simpson, he's a small-school sleeper back. I'm sure some general Colts fans are pining for the recently-released Dom Rhodes to come back to the Colts, but I'd rather have Hart get the #2 touches and Simpson to win the the #3 RB job.

But the big question is Simpson can get the offense and be a part of it. Other than that, he looks great with terrific measurables.

I agree, he seems like an interesting prospect. I like the fact that he's short and stocky (ala Drew-Jones).

However, Scott's scouting report on him is that he doesn't have good hands nor good blocking ability. Both of those are important qualities for our RBs.

Then again, Kenton Keith's hands aren't exactly top notch either.

I am curious to see what you guys do with Silva. He will be an animal on special teams at least, but I wonder if you're going to leave him in the secondary or move him to linebacker.

He can be a depth guy in the secondary, he can play both safety spots but he just lacks athleticism. I think he can be a solid player, though. If you moved him to LB, that would be very inriguing. He is about 215 now and June played at about 220 if I'm not mistaken, he only would need about 10 more pounds. He is solid against the run, very instinctive, and played in the box a bit at BC. I think he could do it.

He has been timed in the 4.4 range in the 40-yard dash with a career best time of 4.35. Giguere ran 4.41 during the workout session of this past spring's East-West Bowl held in Quebec City. He is a rare natural athlete with a 40-inch vertical, 4.14 short shuttle, 10-foot, 1-inch broad jump and has also completed 23 reps of 225 pounds during offseason training.

I'm in love with Sam Giguere! :D

After doing some film study on Sam Giguere, RB...I really, really, really like this kid’s work ethic, athleticism, and football smarts. I would like to see a possible position change for him to FB/HB in our system. He appears to have good quickness, hands, and build to play FB/HB. Not to mention I feel he would be a great contributor on ST that really needs alot of attention.

I was just thinking about this, with Sam Giguere going 8th overall to the Tiger Cats in the CFL draft how does that work out? Is it a see how he does in camp or does he have a contract obligation to the CFL?

Geo
05-03-2008, 10:37 AM
He has a shot to make the NFL/Colts, he'll give it everything he has. If he doesn't make it, he can always go to the CFL as that team that drafted him will retain his rights for a year (until next year's draft). I would think he'd opt to go to the CFL than be on a practice squad, not sure how the salaries compare though.
