Who makes it, who doesn't?
Starters are listed first, and WR1/2/3 and CB1/2/3 indicate the two starters and slot/nickel guys.
QB - Donovan McNabb, Kevin Kolb, AJ Feeley
RB - Brian Westbrook, Lorenzo Booker, Tony Hunt, Reno Mahe
FB - Dan Klecko
WR1 - Kevin Curtis, Hank Baskett
WR2 - Reggie Brown, Jason Avant
WR3 - DeSean Jackson
TE - LJ Smith, Brent Celek, Kris Wilson
LT - Tra Thomas, Winston Justice
LG - Todd Herremans, Max Jean-Gilles
C - Jamaal Jackson, Nick Cole
RG - Shawn Andrews, Mike McGlynn
RT - Jon Runyan, Pat McCoy
Notes:
No surprises at quarterback. Reno Mahe strikes again, this time kept around "just in case" something happens to DeSean Jackson as our return man. Andy Reid will make it happen, and I can't see us keeping only 3 RBs.
DE - Trent Cole, Juqua Thomas, Darren Howard
DT - Mike Patterson, Trevor Laws
DT - Brodrick Bunkley, LaJuan Ramsey
DE - Victor Abiamiri, Chris Clemons, Bryan Smith
SLB - Chris Gocong, Rocky Boiman
MLB - Stewart Bradley, Joe Mays
WLB - Omar Gaither, Akeem Jordan
CB1 - Asante Samuel, Joselio Hanson
CB2 - Lito Sheppard, Nick Graham
CB3 - Sheldon Brown
FS - Brian Dawkins, Quintin Demps
SS - Quintin Mikell, Sean Considine
Notes:
Darren Howard will be on the bubble, but I think we would've cut him already if that's what we wanted to do. Drafting Bryan Smith really shouldn't affect Howard's status with the team, so he stays, also serving as the #5 DT, as poorly as he's played when shifted inside. Despite being listed here I wouldn't doubt it if Smith doesn't play a snap and we essentially have 5 DEs. We drafted two guys, Joe Mays and Andy Studabaker, who were brought in for special teams coverage. They will probably compete with each other for one spot, and I'm giving it to Mays. Studabaker can find a home on the practice squad along with fellow draftees OG Mike Gibson and OT King Dunlap. Sheldon Brown doubles as a backup safety who will likely see the field in some nickel packages, not sure if it'll be at FS or SS. Lito Sheppard would obviously then line up outside.
K - David Akers
P - Sav Rocca
Notable Cuts :
RB Correll Buckhalter - Showed flashes after a ton of serious injuries, but we should be happy we got that much out of him. Tony Hunt and Lorenzo Booker are a great backup 1-2 punch for Westbrook.
WR Greg Lewis - Was kept around for his return "skills". We're set there now with DeSean.
TE Matt Schobel - Kris Wilson bumps him off the roster.
MLB Pago Toafau - Too much competition at LB for him to stick
SS JR Reed - See Greg Lewis. Quintin Demps helps boot him.
The tough decision here was at linebacker. Akeem Jordan, Pago Toafau and Rocky Boiman should be battling for two backup spots. We like Jordan and Toafau, but if a starter gets hurt I think Boiman is the best bet to fill the hole. He stays due to experience. Basically it came down to Toafau and Jordan for the last roster spot, and I gave the slight edge to Jordan.
