View Full Version : NBA Salary Cap Draft

Remembered this from D-Unit a while back and we never finished. Looking for 7-9 more guys to do this. Because I've seen and been a part of so many failed drafts, I will turn lesser reliable guys away. I'm sorry, but it needs to be done. Here's the deal:
12 man roster of NBA players
Salaries MUST NOT ADD UP to the given limit(anywhere between 57-60 mil, I haven't decided yet)
A twist D threw in was one of your 12 picks be an upcoming rookie, FO' FREE!
We'll discuss clock and such once the spots are full.
I'm the Nets.
We'll also be using the salaries from: http://hoopshype.com/salaries.htm
We'll vote on either this year's salaries or the upcoming year.
Feel free to post and "apply" but I know there are some big NBA fans who may not be on now that are more reliable and deserve a shot to be in this if they so choose.

I would love to be in this. When is the draft?
we'll see how many people sign up tonight and early tomorrow. Possibly tomorrow afternoon or Sunday afternoon.
Gimme a team you'd like to be, and you gotta be reliable. I'm hoping some guys like perhaps D-Unit or Ghetto get in on this. there's alot of good NBA guys around here...

I want the Hornets. Prob is though I won't be around at all tomorrow which was why I was asking about draft day.
I'll join. Give me the Portland Trail Blazers. We should definitely go for Tomorrow Afternoon for this.. just to get it started. Get the Draft filled up and get an order, and go without Time Limits for the weekend or whatever..

this draft just got supremle awesomer! sweet!
We should go for like..2 more people.. and then get an order going.. though I'd say 6 people is fine, since we're doing 12 Rounds.

ah, I forgot to mention that. I was aiming at a 3-5 year dynasty, but a team that can also win now. Many of the older studs have larger contracts. It's interesting you gotta balance talent, age and $$$.
I'm thinking at just having the cap be $58 mil? any objections?
RoyHall#1
05-10-2008, 11:01 AM
I am in. I say we should draft to win now... should make the picks more interesting as you want the older guys, but they've got the big contracts.
scottyboy
05-10-2008, 11:17 AM
score! royheezy in the house! I assume you want the Cavs?
It's a mix of win now AND kind of a 3 year dynasty. You always wanna win now, but it's mainly for a dynasty. I'd still like another person or 2. If you see someone online now who'd be interested, pm them.

2 questions:
This is the best team for RIGHT NOW correct?
and
Isn't the real cap like 67 million? Why do we need to be so far under?
The real cap is at about 55.5 million. I believe your thinking about the cap for the luxury tax. And I think we decided we're judging based on a mix of current/3 year dynasty.

I like the idea of picking a team to win over the course of the next 3 years.. That way, the players with larger contracts factor in more.

yep, it's over the next 3 years. And the cap is normally around 55 mil as previously stated, but I gave us 58 mil(luxury tax etc).

http://assets.espn.go.com/media/apphoto/764be579-58a2-4240-b0a7-7623c4a65ddc.jpg
It was a tough decision to take on that salary, but I thought about it a lot, and in the end, my team will be a lot better with Kobe than without it, even if I may have to sacrifice later on. If you have a chance to add the best player in the NBA, you take it. And in the end, after these two picks, I still have 4 million per player, including the ones on the end of my bench. As far as over the next 3 years goes, he just won the MVP. He's not getting any worse and he's only 29.
and Andrew Bynum, C, $2,172,000
http://www.insidesocal.com/tomhoffarth/p1_bynum.jpg
You need a valuable post presence to succeed in the NBA, and Bynum looked like one of the most dominant centers in the league...and he's only getting better.

Yeah, but analog screws with your mind sometimes. The little hand is on a 3 so you think it's 3:55, but it's really only 2:55. Crazy.

As much of a bargain he is, does it really matter? All you're trying to do is stay under the budget, not make the cheapest team. As long as you stay under, it's make the best team. Which makes this interesting because players like Kobe and KG are tough to work around, but if you can than you end up with a great team.

Well, he is a Warriors fan, which was the reasoning there. Haha. But in any case, Monta is extremely talented and even underrated. It's not as if there's such a disparity between Monta and the top SGs that based on talent alone it's crazy to have him taken already.

Not at all, he's a good value pick, but I think this more than any other draft you need to wait until the end to judge to see if the people that picked up the big contracts can still manage to put together a strong team.

There are better players on the board, but it's hard to find a better value on the board. He's a player who accepts the 6th man role, give energy and rebounding, and comes at a bargain. He also is yet another guy who plays outstanding defense.
