Predict who you guys will select in the 2009 recruiting season.

Hines
05-10-2008, 10:58 AM
Penn State

QB: Tate Forcier
RB: Tavon Austin
WR: Jaleel Clark/ Justin Brown
OL: Mark Arcidiacono/ Ty Howle/ Nate Cadogan/ Josh Hadel(if offered)
DL: Jordan Hill(if offered)/ Sean Stanley(I am sure hoping)
LB: Dan Mason/ Glenn Carson
DB: Malcolm Willis/ Jordan Love/ Darrell Givens/ Stephen Obeng-Agyapong

Ath: Curtis Drake (could play db, wr,qb)/ Craig Crawford(will commit if given an offer)/ Derrick Thomas

Players I want:

LB/RB Jelani Jenkins: If academics is really a big part of his decision, Penn State would be a great fit for him. Would play right away as a true frosh, or a RS frosh

WR Je'Ron Stokes: He commited to Tenn, but I am hoping he revokes it after a good season by us and joins us.

DE Deonte' Arnett: Him and Stanley would be studs on our dline

What is yours?

guys in bold already committed (8 total)

QB: tajh boyd
RB: tavon austin
OT: morgan moses, cole bowers
LB: chris snook, jarod askew, bruno busick, aki vakahali
WR: logan heastie, deon long
DE: justin foxx
DT: dominick davenport

thats all i got now; vakahali hasnt verbeled yet, but was gonna come this year, but didnt get his associates degree, so he'll be coming in january; his cousin is gonna be a freshman this year, and his juco coach is now a ga here

really want jelani jenkins---know hes visiting in the summer

prob expect more verbals after our camp in june

our insiders feel 90% of our class could be filled after the camp

we have at least 20 schollies, but they think we'll have closer to 25 after transfers, etc

1.) Bryce Brown (5*) RB
2.) Ruben Randle (5*) WR or NuKeese Richardson (4*)
3.) Olivier Vernon (4*) DE
4.) Luther Robinson (4*) DT/OG
5.) Antwan Lowery (4*) DT
6.) Billy Sanders (NR/should be 3*) TE/DE
7.) Michael Carter (4*) CB
8.) Brandon McGee (4*) CB (he's ours keylime)
9.) Tevin McCaskill (4*) S
10.) Lamar Miller (4*) RB
11.) Orson Charles (4*) TE
12.) A.J. Highsmith (NR/Should be 3*) ATH
13.) Deron Dye (4*) DE
14.) Riley Spencer (NR/Should be a 3*) OT
15.) Jamal Reid (NR/Should be a 3*) CB
16.) Logan Thomas (4*) TE
17.) Anthony Steen (NR/Should be a 2*) OT
18.) Jon Bostic (4*) LB
19.) Rantavous Wooten (NR/Should be 4*) WR

That's 19 which is the number we are said to be targeting at this point. The only ones on this list that have yet to recieve offers are Logan Thomas and NuKeese Richardson but both seem to be pretty big Miami fans that we are slow playing and will get in on heavier as things start taking shape later. We'll see how it plays out.

DT: Antwan Lowery (Miami fans think they don't really want him)

What are you talking about? He's been to just about all our camps this summer, he comes on campus all the time just to chill with the other players, he's great with the coaches and we've already offered him a scholarship. If we didn't really want him, we would not have offered him at all, much less this early in the process. Outside of Lamar Miller, he's probably the 1 kid that has yet to commit that Miami feels most confident about that will end up in our class.

Why would that be? Love camped at ND and was said that he would commit on the spot if given an offer. Jenkins is definitely more of a reach.

Where did you see that Love would commit "on the spot" if given an offer? From what I read, Wake and Penn State are his favorites. He just got offers from Georgia and Florida and I would assume he would favor those two as well.

There were 3 people who told the staff they would verbal on the spot if offered early in the year, Jake Golic was one of them.

The Irish staff will be visiting Love this month and will probably give Love an offer, we'll see what he does after.

Looks like Miami and LSU are gonna be in some recruiting battle this year. Orelus, Randle, Bostic if I remember correctly have us both in the top 5 for each and we both are in good position with all 3 of those guys. Could go either way there.

Plus we are both in on DeBose (I think FSU tho) and Xavier Sua Filo (USC). Should be interesting.

This is a pretty solid list, I know we are looking for 3-4 TE this year according to Hurtt.

McGee is going to be a tough get, as will Randle. I do like the brother connection to UM there, but we will have to see.

I would be more than happy with that class.

Also, Michael Carter could prove to be a huge battle, I think we have the inside track but Minnesota has some leeway with him as his cousin won the Thorpe Award there.

Miles has definitely shown that he loves to dip into Florida and Texas, especially after Saban cut off that Mobile pipeline we had for a while.

I'm thinking Orelus will de-commit to be honest. Something about him strikes me as really funny.

Bostic would be really, really great to have, and I believe he thought about committing to LSU after the spring game last month. Long way to go with him though.

Sonny on our Scout site likes our chances with DeBose (I think it'll depend on whether we take Ray Ray Armstron or Dye as well), but its tough to get such an electric player out of Florida.

I like our chances with Sua Filo because of Gary Crowton's influence in Utah. He coached at BYU, hes from Provo..they love him there and he'll probably be going hard after Sua Filo and John Martinez. I believe Sua Filo has us on the top of his list.

If we get one of them I'd bet it'd be Sua Filo..Martinez is definitely going to USC.

I've been saying for a long time that Orelus will decommit. It's pretty obvious if you ask me. He's going to either Miami or Florida.

I don't know exactly how hard Miami is going after Bostic because they have offered alot of LBs and are only taking 1 but he is from an area that's all Miami and if Miami pushed hard enough I'm sure they could land him fairly easily. I just don't think they are as interested in him as some others.

I have heard LSU and FSU for Debose but FSU is clearly the leader and I don't think it's all that close to be honest. He's just having fun with it but he'll be a Nole in the end. I don't know if you've heard anything on Dye but I'd be shocked if he ended up anywhere but Miami. Armstrong is the most open but I'd say Florida has the best chance.

Ok, I wasn't going to do one until a little later but I think I have enough info to make an early educated guess. I used Scout's rankings because Rivals was down.

QB
Kevin Newsome (5*)
Shavodrick Beaver (4*)

RB
Teric Jones (4*)
Fitzgerald Toussaint (3*)

WR
Bryce McNeal (4*)
Kenny Bell (4*)
Jeremy Gallon (3*)

OL
Brennan Williams (4*)
Michael Schofield (3*)
Zack Martin (N/R)
Adam Gress (N/R)

DT
William Campbell (5*)
Josh Boyd (4*)

DE
Sam Montgomery (4*)
Keenan Graham (4*)

LB
DeDe Lattimore (3*)
Jordan Barnes (3*)
Isaiah Bell (N/R)
Brandin Hawthrone (N/R)

CB
Darius Winston (5*)
Justin Turner (4*)
David Gordon (3*)

S
Mike Jones (4*)
Dennis Thames (3*)

K
Anthony Fera (N/R)

I feel pretty good about a lot of these guys and not-so-great on some others.

Sniper
06-14-2008, 08:37 PM
I think Bell is better suited at SS and Turner at FS. Just my 2 cents. I really don't know if we'll take four linebackers again after the quartet of Fitzgerald/Demens/Witherspoon/Hill all come in this year. We really need some more DBs though. Mike Jones would be sweet at S, if only to say WHO? after every tackle.

All that to say, if that's your prediction, it's good enough for me.

Key, what's the deal with the University of Ohio State's 401,292 DB offers?

Newbs24
06-16-2008, 05:40 PM
I like P-L's list. I would not mind switching out Gress and putting Watt in but he has been so quiet it is hard to read him. It sucks, but I think we are way behind on both Graham and Montgomery. Boyd would be a huge pickup because I think he could play SDE. Marcus Witherspoon being able to become a DE is also gonna be key for this team IMO. Overall, I like that list alot. Especially Thames, Winston and Jones.

keylime_5
06-16-2008, 06:06 PM
Key, what's the deal with the University of Ohio State's 401,292 DB offers?

between barnett, brown, mcdougald, emilien, mcgee, green, gilmore, clarke, wood, and about 5 others they have offered they will for sure get 5-7 great prospects. First come first serve I think.

keylime_5
06-16-2008, 06:09 PM
Also I keep changing my predicted list. Definitely gonna be 27 I think now:

1-Jordan Whiting
2-Storm Klein
3-John Simon
4-Jack Mewhort
5-Adam Homan
6-CJ Barnett
7-Chris Fields
8-Jamie Wood
9-Dorian Bell
10-Jordan Hall
11-Melvin Fellows
12-Corey Linsley
13-Zach Boren
14-James Jackson
15-Reid Fragel
16-Dominic Clarke
17-Adam Bellamy
18-Duron Carter
19-Carlos Hyde
20-Justin Green
21-Corey Brown
22-Bradley McDougald
23-Chris Watt
24-Jaamal Berry
25-Vlad Emilien
26-Jonathan Newsome
27-Marcus Hall

They might sneak in Corey Adams or Brandon McGee or maybe EJ Banks or Ra'Shede Hageman, or another OLineman. If there is going to be a 28th guy though it will be McGee.

Most on there we have a good shot at landing or have already gotten verbals from (indicated by the asterisk next to their name).

Some will call me a homer for having guys like Hall, Wingo, and Jenkins on there but I think we have good chances with all 3. We've been hearing that Hall wants to go away for school, Wingo has always liked Illinois a lot and it'll be a Mizzou/Illinois battle for him, and Jenkins is from the Maryland area where we have cleaned up plus he's looking strong at academics (to go along with early playing time at LB).

Zook has an eye for talent (Vontae was a 3 star, Asamoah was a "MAC recruit," Dere Hicks wasn't highly regarded star wise, Bellamy was a 3 star, Davis was a 2/3 star, Walker was a 2/3 star, Hooman was a 3 star, etc...Hull, Golden, and Edwards have been having great years so far (I believe we are the strong leaders for Edwards right now) and will see stocks improve. Scheelhaase, Hawthorne, Buckner, Hill, Carter, and Appleton are studs. Thrash, Feldmeyer, and Hopkins are bit of unknowns.

If we land the players on that list it'll be a home run class, ton of potential with those guys. We'll see what happens.

I'll give this another try.

QB: Tate Forcier, San Diego (CA) Scripps Ranch,4*
QB: Shavodrick Beaver, Wichita Falls (TX) Rider, 4*
RB: Fitzgerald Toussaint, Youngstown (OH) Liberty, 4*
RB: Teric Jones, Detroit (MI) Cass Tech, 3*
RB: Vincent Smith, Pahokee (FL) Pahokee, 3*
WR: Bryce McNeal, Minneapolis (MN) Breck, 4*
WR: Jeremy Gallon, Apopka (FL) Apopka, 4*
OL: Michael Schofield, Orland Park (IL) Sandburg, 4*
OL: Quinton Washington, St. Stephen (SC) Timberland, 4*
DL: William Campbell, Detroit (MI) Cass Tech, 5*
DL: Anthony LaLota, Princeton (NJ) Hun School, 4*
DL: Craig Roh, Scottsdale (AZ) Chaparral, 4*
DL: DeQuinta Jones, Bastrop (LA) Bastrop, 4*
DL: Jason Ankrah, Gaithersburg (MD) Quince Orchard, 3*
LB: Brandin Hawthorne, Pahokee (FL) Pahokee,3*
LB: Jordan Barnes, Fort Wayne (IN) Homestead, 3*
LB: Isaiah Bell, Youngstown (OH) Liberty, 3*
DB: Justin Turner, Massillon (OH) Washington, 4*
DB: Travis Hawkins, Gaithersburg (MD) Quince Orchard, 4*
DB: Mike Jones, Orlando (FL) Edgewater, 3*
DB: Thomas Gordon, Detroit (MI) Cass Tech, 3*
DB: Dewayne Peace, Grand Prairie (TX) South Grand Prairie, 3*
PK: Anthony Fera, Houston (TX) St. Pius X, 3*

I'm really not that confident about Washington and Ankrah/Hawkins but I needed about 3 extra guys to fill the class to 23, the number I think we'll end up with.

Well since everyone else is updating, I might as well too.

(I'm placing them at the position I expect them to play at Miami)

QB-AJ Highsmith, Fort Bend (TX) Hightower 3*
RB- Mike James, Davenport (FL) Ridge 4*
RB- Bryce Brown, Wichita (KS) Wichita East 5*
TE- Billy Sanders, Coeur d'Alene (ID) Lake City 3*
TE- Stephen Plein, Fort Myers (FL) Fort Myers 2*
WR- Andre Debose, Sanford (FL) Seminole 4*

OL- Xavier Nixon, Fayetteville (NC) Jack Britt 4*
OL- Jared Wheeler, Plantation (FL) American Heritage 3*
OL- Peter White, Washington (DC) St. John's College High 4*
OL- Brandon Washington, New Berlin (NY) Milford Prep NR/4*

DE- Antonio Harper, Chatham (VA) Hargrave Military Academcy NR/3*
DE- Olivier Vernon, Miami (FL) American 4*
DT- Curtis Porter, Charlotte (NC) Victory Christian 3*
DT- Luther Robinson, Ft. Pierce (FL) Westwood 4*
LB- Ray Ray Armstrong, Sanford (FL) Seminole 4*
LB- Zach Kane, New Berlin (NY) Milford Prep NR/2*
CB- Brandon McGee, Lauderhill (FL) Plantation 4*
CB- Prince Kent, Norcross (GA) Norcross 4*
CB- Michael Carter, Pompano Beach (FL) Ely 4*
CB- Jamal Reid, Mayo (FL) Lafayette 3*
DB- Keyvon Webster, Opa Locka (FL) Monsignor Pace 3*

The 3 prep kids aren't ranked yet so I put their ranking from last year but Kane has supposedly been lighting it up in Prep and the other two are very good raw talents so I can't see any rated less then 3 stars with Washington likely a 4*. 22 total, which is ballpark of what we are expecting to take.

This is the most realistic case but we are also in on other top guys like Sheldon Richardson, William Campbell, Ruben Randle and I wouldn't be shocked if we landed 1 from that list though I'm not expecting it. Adding one of those will likely force out another guy like Webster or Wheeler.

I can guarantee you we are not taking 26. No way, No how.

Im sorry Hollywood but their's no way in hell Ray Ray Armstrong ends up playing DE.

Either TE or LB. Slight possibility of S.

Anyone heard the news at canesport. Nix out. Interviewing Malzahn. Jermaine McKenzie might be transferring. We got two really good recievers coming. (Guess what, were only recruiting two right now..... DeBose and Randle.

It's still a wait and see but this info is coming from some of the big-timers there.

Randle is a huge chance. Debose is iffy.

How is it no way no possibility at all that we don't take just one more extra guy from what you have in the class? It seems like a possibility to me especially with some of the rumored transfers. Do you think Henderson doesn't have a commitable offer?

Also, you say no way to 9 OL but I just project three of the guys in your class that you don't have playing line to the line - Sanders, Plein and Porter IMO all end up on the line or transfer. Sanders and Plein are NOT University of Miami TE's; I see them both redshirting, bulking up and trying them out at tackle spots, maybe even one of them develops into a center. I love Porter at guard based on film too.

To the poster who said Ray Ray won't play DE - he is already bigger than Marcus Robinson was coming in last year and based on film I've seen from him the dude is not a LB or safety, he either plays TE or DE and will be a beast there too. I've even read already (maybe it was here and Joey wrote it?) that the coaches plan on trying him at DE...

We will not take 26. We are taking a full class of 25. That's the limit. We were only supposed to take 22 or so and transfers are the only reason we are taking a full 25. We cannot take more then that because we took more then the limit last year (30) and any more then the full 25 this season would have to go prep and enroll next year. We are not looking to take extra schollies away from next year's class. We are looking to load up next season. We will take a full class this year but that's it.

Henderson did have a commitable offer and did commit but his mom told him not too because she does not want him at Miami. He will not be here.

Plein has already been told he is being looked at as a TE so there's no sense in projecting him to OL and Sanders has already been told he will be looked at as TE 1st and DE 2nd so there's no sense in projecting him to the OL either. Hence there is no way we are taking 9 OL in this class. Just not possible. Besides Clint Hurtt has already come out more then once and said we are looking at 6-7 OL for this class. So you should probably be projecting in that range and not an outrageous 9 OL. Do you really think the staff would only bring in 1 TE with Zellner leaving and Epps/Gordon both going into SR year. That would leave us with ZERO depth at the position. So of course Plein and Sanders will play TE and either Orson Charles or Ray Ray could join them there.

I have heard some stuff about Ray Ray playing DE here. I have him at LB but that's in no way set in stone. I could see him at DE or TE as well.

not necessarily. If we get those guys then we'll have 8 or 9 five stars (Bell, Fellows, Hall, Berry, Brown, Adams, Simon, Boyd and maybe Corey Brown if he gets upgraded) not to mention 14 Under Armour/US Army All American players. LSU and USC would have to get all the 5 stars they are currently targeting to pass Ohio State as the #1 class if we finish with those guys.

in my book if you are a 5star on rivals or a 5star on scout, then you're a 5 star.

I think if things go like they should then I think Ohio State will probably have more top 100 guys and 5 stars than USC or LSU, but LSU and USC will have more top 10 and top 20 players. If that happens then it is pretty much a scenario that LSU or USC or OSU has the best recruiting class in the country arguably and they pretty much share a crown, though rivals, scout, espn, etc. like to give it to one school with their little points system. Looking like those 3 for sure in some order will be the top 3 with a pretty big distance between them and the 4th best class this year.

Yea but keep in mind ur looking at Scouts rankings. They are very liberal with their stars. Especially with media darlings like OSU, USC and UF.

On rivals, ur holding at the top based on having more players currently commited, not because your players are better.

Once people start closing out their classes they will close the gap and some will pass.

Ur having a top 5 class but Im not sure youll be number 1. I think LSU could take that honor.

Honestly, I think that's a bit ridiculous. You think there are 60 5-star players in the country? There are only 21 players that are rated 5-stars by both sites. Why do the 39 other guys get 5-star status instead of 4-star status when at least 1 of the sites think they are only 4-stars?

If I were a recruit and scout.com says I'm a 5 star, or if Rivals.com says I'm a 5 star, then I can tell people I'm a 5 star recruit truthfully. You can't discredit one or the other.

I really think if things finish as expected then we'll get #1 on scout's team rankings and probably #3 on rivals' behind USC and LSU. They do hand out 5 star and 4 star ratings more liberally, but that helps every team's avg. star ratings, not just ours. The thing is though I think Rivals rates the LSU and USC commits higher than scout does and scout has some Buckeye commits rated higher than they are on rivals.

TE- Ray Ray Armstrong, Sanford (FL) Seminole 4*
OL- Jared Wheeler, Plantation (FL) Amercan Heritage 3*
OL- Malcolm Bunche, Newark (DE) Newark 3*
OL- Jermaine Johnson, Chatham (VA) Hargrave Military 5*
DE- Dyron Dye, Sanford (FL) Seminole 4*
CB- Demontre Hurst, Lancaster, (TX) Lancaster 3*
LB- Greg King, Memphis (TN) Melrose 3*

Plus 1 of:
WR- Rueben Randle, Bastrop (LA) Bastrop 5*
WR- Andre Debose, Sanford (FL) Seminole 5*

And 1 of:
OT- Andrew Tiller, Garden City (NY) Nassau CC 3*
OT- Sheldon Richardson, St. Louis (MO) Gateway 5*

Very confident on the 1st 6 listed. Not so much on King. However, I know we are looking for another LB and he seems be most likely option.

Feel good about getting 2 of Randle, Debose, Tiller and Richardson with me leaning towards Debose and Tiller at this point. But those seem to switch daily.

Minnesota's recruiting class is beginning to take shape. I've heard "experts" from scouts and rivals predict that Brewster has a few big moves up his sleeve, but I'm not sure who that would be other than McNeal, Paige, and Leon.

Here are guys that have already committed:

QB: Moses Alipate (MN)
RB: Hasan Lipscomb (TX)
WR: Hayo Carpenter (CA), Bryant Allen (MO), Victor Keise (FL)
TE: Ra'shede Hageman (MN)
OL: Josh Champion (MN), Brooks Olsen (IN), Ed Olsen (MN), Jeff Willis (PA)
DE: Matt Garin (MN), Nick Rengel (MN)
DT: Joey Searcy (TX)
DB: Kerry Lewis (TX), Kenny Watkins (MI)
ATH: Kendell Gregory-McGhee (CO)
K: Dan Oreske

That's 17 total, plus Kevin Whaley, Sam Maresh, and Marquies Gray from last year, making it 20.

I'll confidently predict we get the following 6 players:
DT: Roy Philon (KY)
S/OLB: Anthony Leon (CA)
CB: Taikwon Paige (FL), Taj Johnson (CA), Turmour Battle (CO)
WR: Kris Lott (TX)

I'd like to think we'll get Bryce McNeal, but he keeps adding schools to his list, and has said in the past that he'd like to live in a different state for a while (which is perfectly understandable). There are probably 5 very legit options for McNeal. Michael Carter would be really nice too, but I think he's more likely to stay at Florida or go to West Virginia.

26 commits would put us about 5-6 over the top, but these things usually find a way of working themselves out.

Are Tiller and Bunche both down to Miami and Rutgers right now?

Tiller is between the two but I think hes more of a backup to some of our other OT targets.

Weve been hearing Bunche is deciding between the Canes and Miami. lol.

He was considered a Miami lean even when he was commited to Rutgers.

I knew he was pretty much off Rutgers but I was still hoping he would come. Looks like we might get Aboushi anyway.

Yea Bunche should commit to us within a few weeks. He's just building suspense.

We should find out on Tiller soon tho. He's enrolling in Jan. I heard he's got 3 years of eligibility left tho. You hear anything about that?

He's not enrolling in January. Redshirted this year due to injury.

I've heard Bunche is 50/50 but we'll see.

Watts is the one coming in Jan. Got them mixed up. So Tiller does have 3 years left because of the redshirt correct?

Weve heard Bunche is locked up to us.

He named us his leader early in the process. Committed to RU but kept talking to us. Decommiting from you and still keeps telling our coaches favorable stuff. He is expected to name a leader next week and we are expected to be it. He has been leaning to us the entire process. It would be an utter shock to most Miami followers if he doesnt end up here.

Heres my final 9 for Miami at this point:

TE- Ray Ray Armstrong, Sanford (FL) Seminole 4*
OL- Jared Wheeler, Plantation (FL) Amercan Heritage 3*
OL- Malcolm Bunche, Newark (DE) Newark 3*
OL- Jermaine Johnson, Chatham (VA) Hargrave Military 5*
DE- Dyron Dye, Sanford (FL) Seminole 4*
CB- Demontre Hurst, Lancaster, (TX) Lancaster 3*
LB- Greg King, Memphis (TN) Melrose 3*

Plus 1 of:
WR- Rueben Randle, Bastrop (LA) Bastrop 5*
WR- Andre Debose, Sanford (FL) Seminole 5*

And 1 of:
OT- Andrew Tiller, Garden City (NY) Nassau CC 3*
OT- Sheldon Richardson, St. Louis (MO) Gateway 5*

Very confident on the 1st 6 listed. Not so much on King. However, I know we are looking for another LB and he seems be most likely option.

Feel good about getting 2 of Randle, Debose, Tiller and Richardson with me leaning towards Debose and Tiller at this point. But those seem to switch daily.

I would JIZZ IN MY PANTS if we got Debose! That guy is absolutely amazing. Honestly, I'd probably rather have him than Randle.

QB: Kevin Newsome
RB: Curtis Dukes
WR: Justin Brown, Curtis Drake, Brandon Felder, Devon Smith, Christian Kuntz
OL: Ty Howle, Eric Shrive, Nate Cadogan, Frank Figueroa, Mark Arcidiacono, Adam Gress
DL: Sean Staley, Gary Gilliam, John Urschel
LB: Jelani Jenkins, Glen Carson
DB: Malcolm Willis, Darrell Givens, Stephon Morris, Stephen Obeng-Agyapong, Gerald Hodges, Jim Noel
K: Anthony Fera
ATH: Derrick Thomas

This is updated. I believe we pick up 5 more guys.

Here are 2 other guys I hope we can real in:

WR Je'Ron Stokes
WR Shawney Kersey

I think we get Kersey if we offer him. I think we get two more recievers in Brown and Kersey along with CB Jim Noel(former BC recruit), and NY DL John Urschel.

Montgomery is just a "gut feeling." I really have no idea if we land him or not, but I do know he is seriously considering us. If we keep DQJ and PG, and finish with those four it will probably push our class into the top ten.

The most likely out of those three is Reid, followed by Charles. Starling shouldn't even be in the discussion. All UGA.

Have you heard anything new on Charles? Do you think we're serious about Terrell Mitchell (I assume no)?

Mitchell will visit us before he signs but he's pretty much gone on record saying K-State will land him.
