View Full Version : Most Explosive Player in the NFL?

Hines
05-11-2008, 02:16 PM
Who do you guys think is the most explosive player in the league when the ball is in their hands? Me personally, I am going to go on the defensive side of the ball and say Antonio Cromartie. He has great hands, vision, speed, ect. It will be down to him, and Hester, but I think Cromartie could do the same things if he returned punts and kicks.

05-11-2008, 02:18 PM
Devin Hester, Adrian Peterson, Steve Smith

Hines

My top five go as this:

Cromartie
Hester
Peterson
Smith
Bush

LonghornsLegend
05-11-2008, 02:26 PM
Going with Steve Smith, bar none...I believe he could be a Hester in the return game if given that chance..This obviously could be argued for many other players, but I don't think many can match what Smith can do with the ball in his hands, matched with his agility, acceleration, leg strength and elusiveness.

*edit*

I have to add Adrian Peterson, granted he played one season, he can still take any one handoff to the house with a variety of moves, running you over, spinning off you, shaking you, stiff arm, he has an arsenal of moves that he can score with.

I have to disagree with the people that are saying Randy Moss is way explosive. Not anymore at least. He still has the straight line speed, but he can't just fly by everyone like he used to.

I'm gonna say Adrian Peterson is the most explosive. Once he gets the rock in his hands, he hits the whole and is heading for 6 if you don't catch him the first 10 yards.

NON HOMER- Honestly, I think the best answer ha to be hester. Explosivity to me is the players ability to change a game on one single play. Nobody has done that better than hester. Now, I think there are WAY better players (of course AD, Westbrook, etc. are better), and hester muffs far too many balls, but in terms of pure explosivity, i think its him.

HOMER: In praise of roscoe parrish. He isnt necessarily fast, but if he doesnt have the best jukes in the entire NFL, he is damn close. His lateral quikness is absolutely elite and he can make people miss almost at will. This makes him a threat for big plays every time he touches the ball. I think that he can rightfully be called one of the most explosive players in the NFL, but perhaps dynamic is an even better word.

Chris Johnson has the potential to be on the list at the end of the season, as far as rookies go. More so that Run DMC, as Johnson will have a better line to run through.

As far as trying to think outside of the box, I'll go with a high-motor DE like Jared Allen, Osi Umenyiora, Kyle Vanden Bosch, etc. with their consistency at getting off the line.

I like the way you think :) He certainly looks like he has the speed to be in the talk for most explosive. Sounds like the Titans are going to use him in ways to make big plays. But you'd think Reggie Bush would have those opportunities too, yet not many big plays. Go figure.

Well, Reggie Bush doesn't have the complimentary back that he had at USC in LenDale White. Deuce McAllister can certainly be that RB, but he's too injury prone. Chris Johnson is faster than Bush, and has the complimentary power-back in LenDale. They'll make each other look good...

Antonio Cromartie

I put LT on there, quit being a homer. Like I said, can score EVERY time they touch the ball. When I see any of those players that I listed get the ball, I hold my breath a little, because I know he's able to take it the distance. Cromartie's a very good athlete, but he's not a threat to take it the distance every time he touches it.

I'm just saying, if the criteria is "can score every time they touch the ball", I think Cro is up there on the elite lists. I bet he's got a better ratio of touches to touchdowns than any of the other guys on that list. He has insane speed and moves after the interception. Also an amazing special teamer, screwing teams over by stopping the ball deep in their territory. He also returns on occasion...to the tune of the longest play in NFL history. He is a ridiculously explosive player.

There are a lot of misconception here. First of all, I've seen Antonio Cromartie's name. Now, I love the guy, and he's a great corner, but he's not one of the most explosive guys in the league with the ball in his hands. He was #1 in INTs, but #6 in yards off them. He had 14.4 yards per INT. Antrel Rolle on the other hand, for example, had only 5 INTs but almost 100 more yards! Cromartie is a great corner, but most explosive? No.

One guy that isn't getting much love is T.J. Rushing. The guy is very solid. One of the most explosive? Nah. But a very good returner.

Okay now, let's get down to brass tax, here. Yards per total touches should be a big factor here (strictly on returners) Josh Cribbs had almost 6 more yards per touch than the next best guy at 22.9! Cribbs led the league in all-purpose yards! He's got to be one of, if not THE most explosive player in the league.

BamaFalcon59

if Norwood is up there....than MJD is past there....

Norwood is more explosive than MJD. Not better but more explosive.

6.4 Yards per carry as rookie
6.0 yards per carry as second year player

Gets tons of 20 plus yard runs, three sixty plus yard runs in his first two years on limited carries, catches and runs well too.
