The first thing gamers will see when they begin playing Madden 2009 is a new feature called the Virtual Trainer. Staged as a holographic simulator that challenges the player with a series of 12 mini-games spanning both offensive and defensive play, this trainer allows Madden to quickly gauge players' Madden IQ. The game uses this information to automatically adjust the settings and difficulty levels of play. As you play, this "Real Football Intelligence" will continuously adjust to your play style as well as your strengths and weaknesses.

Eh, it's never had an extremely "real" feel to me, especially the offseason and roster moves. I just think the gameplay is 100x better on the previous gen than the next gen.

Yeah.. I didn't buy Madden 08. I didn't like the play selection screen. I didn't like all of the little cut scenes after the play.. I didn't like the control changes. I can't even remember what else I didn't like.. but it wasn't as fun as it used to be.

I'm not sure if they've put this in the last 2 years but...

I think they should make it so you don't have to drop back 15 yards to be effective. You should be able to stay in the pocket but it's hard to have the reaction time. You should be able to use like the truck or highlight stick or whatever they call it now to make a quick step forward or backward or something to try and evade the sack.

The expansion draft was great I would LOVE for it to be in every year there is nothing better then taking over a upstart team and buliding it up in a few years.

I always take the worst team each year sim a season and move them get a new name logo ect but its just not the same.

I wasn't that avid of a Madden player in 02, but in 08 i can do what Splat was referring to in Franchise Mode by just starting a fantasy draft.

Pick a team, it gives you a random pick, and it goes like a snake afterwards.

I always rape those drafts because i pick up all the young talent with small contracts.

I had Madden 07 for PS2 and then went and bought a PS3 so i bought Madden 07 for PS3 as well. Believe it or not Madden on PS3 was worse besides the graphics. It was missing tons of stuff that the PS2 version had. Couldnt even play with a friend offline on the same team, no fantasy draft etc. Madden 07 for PS3 was major disappointment. I got Madden 08 this year for PS3 its alot better then 07 for PS3 but basically Madden 07 for PS2 with updated rosters and player weapons + better graphics

In 02 instead of just having the Texans on the game after you played one season you had the choice of staying with your team or taking over a up start expansion team (Texans).

Each team had to name so many players to the ED and you got to pick players for your team but they always gave you crap players.

You would also get the first pick in the darft and so on it was classic.

Fantasy drafts for Madden 07 for PS2 were so easy. Every round the CPU would take the same players. Like round 1 was always only QB's and WR's. Round 2 was always only CB's and DE's. until later then it was random positions. I just wrote down what round that position was taking in because it was always the same and draft the best player there before the CPU. Madden 08 for PS3 the CPU is smarter but still stupid. They don't just take 2 positions 1 round anymore. But TE's/FB's will never be drafted until round 11 so if u want good TE's /FB's take them in round 9 and 10. K's/P's never are drafted until round 27 so same as draft them 1 round early if u want good ones. Same guys last until the same round just about every time so if u pay attention you can really stack your team. The CPU also now considers age and will take someone who is 23 rated 88 over someone 30 rated 88 at the same positions.

When I do a fantasy draft I always bulid my lines up first I draft OL then DL and so on till I have my five starting OL and four starting DL its great.

Then I like to draft a rookie RB and CB's to work behind those great lines it all starts up front.:)

PS3 and 360 rosters are the same but im pretty sure PS2 and XBOX are differnt from them. Also if you didnt have online you wouldn't have updated rosters so you would just have to say .

you can turn the icons off and still have the weapons on. But yeah last years sucked balls or 08. They are changing the accnoucers to i think Simms and someone else. That is a great idea. Different players definitely do have differing running styles. Hopefully we see that integrated into the game eventually.

Apparently the simulated stats things has been fixed so there arent 2000 yard rushers every year. 10 QB's with 35+ TD's and hopefully one INT in sim mode wont count as 2

They showed some serious love for Felix Jones, 96 speed, 97 agility, and 99 acc, he's faster then Jamaal Charles and Chris Johnson...He's basically a Westbrook clone on here, you 'll get no complains from me about that:) Just unexpected.

Also Barber has the highest truck rating out of all RB's with a 99, followed closely behind is Jacobs at a 98, its CLOBBERING TIME!!! On the truck stick:D

But, unless they go back to where you could formation sub, for instance, I could leave Barber as my starter but in split back, and spread formations I could have Felix Jones in already, so I wouldn't have to go to depth charts every time I want to sub out...I hate that on the new systems its not like that yet, I used to play with the Saints and leave Deuce in but have Bush playing slot WR in certain formations, and Rb in others, I like to set those things once, not every time I want a change.

You can still do that in 08 for next gen, just change the formation using the x button (or whatever it is for PS3 if you have that) until you get to the "spell rb" formation, and it'll put in your backup. You can also put rb at receiver and stuff like that.

nha sometimes you want to make your own packakge its they took it out. I know in NCAA it would be super useful but they don't have custom packages in there. Hopefully they will add it back

I so disagree, there are so many times I may choose to start out running at normal speed to stay behind a full back or pulling guard/tackle, then sprint past a defender, making him miss because he misjudged my speed.

Yep I do the same thing. Not everyone in the NFL, especially RBs, always runs full speed.

Yeah, a lot of times you have to come damn near to a stop for an O-lineman to get out in front for you. Then half the time on the outside you have a blocker with one man to beat and your blocker peals off to block someone you're already by, that's infuriating. It turns a TD into a 5-10 yard gain.

I know what you mean...the 08 version on XBOX still had the computer-generated photo of Merriman instead of a real photo like almost every other player...3 years after winning DROY and never missing a pro bowl in his career.

I played the demo... I thought it was terrible.... The madden test (where it is suppose to adapt to your play) extremely boring, extremely acrade like and just basically goes on forever. Its not even done on a football field. just like little animated in-side computer crap and all you do is push buttons I quit because it just went on and on and was awful. Only lets you do 1:35 seconds of playing in the superbowl your the Giants going for the game winning drive. They didnt have an announcer or anything. It is extremely weird when the camera pulls back so you can see the entire field. The weapons are all black and look worse then they did last year. When your guys run they do a wobble back and forth from side to side. It says how to sprint, catch, highlight stick under every player you click on. They left out basically mostly everything just so you dont get a good feel to what it will really be like. I think John Madden is back as the announcer it said.. but the demo didnt use an announcer. I think they have pregame or something will Cris Collinsworth and someone else like a broadcast or something.

The demo left out alot but it is also suppose to get people to buy these games. I came away very unimpressed and I hope the full game is alot better.

What a weird demo...I wasnt impressed. That adapting to the player test is a pretty good idea but, poorly put together. I dont know how you can be all that effective on defense when the game is constantly going into slo-mo. There wasnt really all that much to the actual game but, Manning was way too fast, I was rolling out like Vick and no one could touch me and I am not a fan of those new camera angles on passes. I'm afraid to know what defense will be like.

Add me into the club. I wasn't a fan. The Madden test was bad... good idea, but it should be based on real game play. That computer crap was not a good idea or executed all that well. It's tough to get any pressure on the QB (wouldn't let me do any power/finesse moves) and when you are in coverage, the game like slows down and the receiver catches it almost every time. As for the game, everyone was way too fast. For some reason Vince Wilfork was standing up like a LB every play. Sounds when I was picking a play where annoying. Looks like they fell in love with their graphics department. Not impressed. Hopefully this isn't what it's like.

If your roommate has live on his 360 then you have to go online, which i don't know so i wont comment on how.

For the PS3 you just need a modem and then take the cord that you plug from your modem into your computer and plug it into your PS3(so connect it from your modem to your ps3.) Then just sign up online automatically. Once your online, madden 09, click quick game, then it takes you to the team select screen and it tells you if you would want to update the roster. Download the roster update then you can go back offline.

You just need a modem for the PS3.

Just glad I can help, IMO opinion Xbox Live is better, with the marketplace, better friends list etc., but PS3 is free and has the same stuff just not as good.

Someone can gladly jump in quickly and tell me i'm completely wrong but im on the free silver xbox live membership until i get my connection sorted and can connect up fine to the live stuff (just cant do certain things, like playing online etc which doesnt really bother me) so i assume you can still get roster updates etc the only roster update i've got is nba 2k8 when i was using the free gold trial so am not sure, but can still pretty decent access to content on silver.

XBL Silver(free) is all you need to download rosters and such. So if you wanna play online for free, PS3 is for you, but if you don't mind and just want roster updates, there isn't a difference.

I give the demo a solid B...... It had impressive graphics IMO..... It was a tad short, but that is what EA wants..... Heres my analogy....The Demo gave the fans a free sample of the ice cream before dishing out the cash for the sundae....

After playing it a few more times, it's steadily growing on me. I still don't like things, and still have trouble how Eli is so fast, but the gameplay adjusting to you, really does seem valid. It just seems like a much realistic game to me in terms of playing.

Yes, but word of advice, just spring for the CE that comes with HC '09 and Madden '93. Head Coach is a far better game and is being released standalone a month later (9/5).

ive played the demo, and the gameplay is much smoother and better tackling, the highlite stick is more realistic, and the computer defense will actually go up with the WR to bat down the bat, i liked it much more than 08, i couldnt even play 08 thats why i didnt bother buying.
