MILAN, Italy (AP)—His Olympic dream suddenly revived, Oscar Pistorius can get back to what he loves most—running.

The double-amputee sprinter from South Africa (http://sports.yahoo.com/olympics/torino2006/zaf/;_ylt=AsvT0Kadp1In6fCkXqtijFFAyMIF) was cleared Friday to compete in his bid to qualify for the Beijing Games.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport overturned a ruling by the International Association of Athletics Federations that barred the 21-year-old runner from the Olympics and any other able-bodied competition because of his prosthetic racing blades.

Pistorius broke into a broad smile to a roomful of applause when the decision was announced. He reached toward his manager, Peet van Zyl, for a victory handshake.

on e60 on espn had a segment on him

some testing done on his legs gave him advantage; they put out a 91% efficiency where an ankle's efficiency is at 88%

pretty big advantage

In all honesty though, his times will mean he struggles to qualify anyway:

Pistorius is hoping to make the Olympic 'A' standard time of 45.55 seconds for the 400m or the 'B' qualifier of 45.95 if no other athlete from his country attains the higher one.

His best time over the distance in 2007 was 46.56 and his personal best is 46.46.

Guaranteed that they make a movie from this in no less than 2 years.

It does seem pretty unfair. Doesn't appear to be that amazing though, so I doubt any problems will arise.

I doubt he qualifies but I hope he does. He came second in the South African trials last year so he is definitely quick. It would be a great story if he did make it to Beijing.

heart beats the haymaker.

the biomechanics on efficiency are pretty lost except in a case to case efficiency. to go across a broad spectrum never makes sense because of individual running gaits and such.
