I've recently become a bit of a health/fitness nut, and was wondering what kind of shape everyone around here is in.
I stand 6' tall and weighed 197 (23% body fat) at the start of the year, but am down to 167 now (13% body fat). I'm trying to row in college, and want to get at 160 even so I can row in the lightweight category. In the last two weeks, my top 1 mile time is 5:50 and 2.5 mile time 17:28.
A lot of my training has resulted in muscle loss, so my weightlifting abilities have suffered. My bench is down to 175 (from 215) and hang clean to 195 (from 245). I haven't even tried to squat (used to be 365 for 8 reps).
So overall I'd say I'm in pretty good shape... now. How about everyone else?

how old are you?
why would you want to lose weight...there are ways to lose fat and keep muscle while still staying at the same weight...
anyways, I'm 6'1 and right at 185lbs....I don't know my exact body fat but I'm pretty lean and don't have a huge amount of fat anywhere...I work out three times a week at the police department and try to walk 10 miles a week...(partly due to having to walk a beat in my zone at work)
200 pounds at 6 feet is not bad at all....depends on if you're stocky and built or overweight and fat laden....

I'm 17 turning 18 in August.
In rowing, there are two classes: lightweight and heavyweight. The dividing line between the two is drawn at 160lbs. Heavyweight rowers (the class my football weight would have put me in) are traditionally at least 6'2 and taller (averaging about 6'4). Being tall gives you a longer stroke, making the boat travel more distance in the same amount of time. Because I'm only 6', I'd be at at big disadvantage by rowing in this category.
That and just because I felt really out of shape is why I've wanted to lose weight.

I don't follow that logic...
I haven't grown in two years, so I assume I'm done at 6', which is 5 inches taller than everyone in my immediate family, so I can't be too upset.

6'1 185, I'm skinny/cut and last time I checked my body fat it was around 7% but it was last summer and I'm not sure...I work at a gym so I stay pretty fit, work out before or after my shift, ask the trainers on shift about little things and do alot of reading about fitness just to have some knowledge myself...
I just don't eat properly, my metabolism is extremely high, and I haven't been able to be consistent with eating 3-4 huge meals a day like I need...I keep some protein(using Serious Mass right now, highly suggest that to anyone wanting to bulk up, 1600 calories an 75g of protein), but you have to eat properly to see the results you want to.

6'0 270 lbs not a good BF%. Trying to drop a lot. My schedule's been real hectic but I plan on eating clean from now on and working out a lot. I'd like to eventually be down to 200-210. I'm in terrible shape after spraining my ankle for a while and didn't do anything during the injury, so now I'm ridiculously out of shape with no endurance. Not a good combo, but it will change soon.

It's just because, I havent really been working out, played football at 192+, at times over 200. Still have been doing lots of cardio/running and such. I have a nice pack going but, I'm not nearly as strong or as big as I used to be. I'm in good shape, though...so, that's all that matters I guess. All about staying healthy and active. I dont know anyone who really got any taller after they turned 18. I was this height w/ a size 13 shoe when I was about 16. Yeah, I can't say I really know of anyone who has had any significant changes in height after around their junior year in high school. As it stands though, that doesn't really bother me as I'm 6'4" and about 210 pounds. I'm in pretty decent shape, usually try to work out 4-5 days a week to go along with running 2 miles everyday which is currently on hold after I twisted my ankle. I'm hoping that with this routine I can get more toned and hopefully get down to about 200.

I "live a sedentary lifestyle" and generally do not eat healthy. I'm not fat, although I used to be. I keep a close eye on my weight and try to cut back when it gets "too high" (usually just a few pounds), but it usually regulates itself.

depends on what kind of protein and what you want to maintain. Usually .8 grams per body pound is good
If you want to add weight on take in 2 to .5 carb protein ratio before workout and 4 to 1 after.
Whey protein is one way to intake a crap load of it replacing it for a meal as a meal i mean a snack in between your meals. Take in multiple meals about 5 to 8 a day small ones but high in protein and carbs.
Google search is a place for more specific information

Depends on how much weight you are trying to put on. I have read anywhere from .75 to 1 gram of protein for every pound one weighs if they are trying to put on muscle mass.
bhaarat316
05-30-2008, 02:03 AM
guys protein is important but don't forget you need more carbs then protein to keep those muscle up. If you dont' have enough carbs for ur muscles to fuel off of then the protein will not be as effective.
1 gram per lb is if you want to go into something like body building. .3-.5 is normal amount and .8 is for active people.
Best brand not on in specific it depends on what you like and what your looking for. taste number of grams per scoop, amino acids

I think some people on here are trying to lose weight/keep it off, and for them, they shouldnt be taking in too many carbs. And even if someone is trying to put on muscle, they dont need more than say a 100 or so carbs in day.

100 Carbs is nothing you get 25 from a nesquik bottol and 7 grams of protein.
If you want to keep it off they weight yeah limit your carbs. But if you have muscle then you need carbs to keep them up.
