Is there anyone that you would love to see your school play?

For me, I'd love for LSU to play Michigan. Both are storied programs and both have never faced each other. LSU has played USC in the past, we've played Ohio State, Penn State, Florida State, etc... We've just never played Michigan.

I think right behind the Michigan match up I'd like to see LSU play USC, UCLA, and Clemson.

I would love to set up an annual game with Florida...Two huge states down south that recruit in state very well as well as surrounding areas...Would love to see that game to start off the season, it might ruin a NC run by losing but it would also help to win that game.

Big schools are worried about games like these often, when you look at Florida they would have Texas and FSU OOC, but I think games like these influence recruiting so much...Maybe it will happen before Mack leaves, if we could work out at least a 2 year deal that would be nice..I can't remember if the two have ever even played before, have you?

I'd love for Michigan to play FSU. I think it would be a super duper time.

Btw, PSU and UW won the same year. The Big 10 won 2/3 matchups that year, but somehow the national media found a way to spin it that the Big 10 was the top heavy conference and the SEC was the deeper one, despite the top SEC team beating the top Big 10 team and the #3 B10 beating the #2 SEC, and the #4B10 beating the #3 SEC

Herein lies the problem. Everyone gets so caught up in the SEC hype machine that no one stops to think about this for a second. A majority of the AP/USA TODAY voters etc... are located in the South, and are therefore more likely to vote SEC teams over everyone else.

You did say top 25 right? Because according to the end of season USA TODAY poll, the grandiose, majestic, almighty, heavenly, godly, all powerful SEC had five teams in the top 25. They were LSU, Georgia, Tennessee, Auburn, and Florida. Meanwhile, the big, lumbering, slow, pathetic, weak, unable to stop the powerful SEC, underdog, and generally awful Big 10? They ALSO had five teams. They would be Ohio State, Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin and Penn State.

Want more examples of SEC tire-pumping?

Team SEC went 9-4 and 5-3 in conference play. Team Big 10 went 9-4 and 6-2 in conference. Team Big 10 went to Team SEC's backyard, handed them four turnovers and STILL won by six points. So why did Florida finish ahead of Michigan in both polls?

dbro
06-05-2008, 01:01 PM
Because Florida has a better team next year than Michigan has this year. Michigan losts its QB, RB, and top 2 WR, and OT, and LB. Same reason LSU is ranked low after they won a NC because they lost their QB Rb DT S 2 CB and OLB, but they too return better talent that Michigan.
I dont want to see an LSU Michigan game. Maybe when Michigan has a good enough team and LSU has a good enough team, but LSU is better than Michigan right now so why would that be a Dream Matchup.

16 are from Big 10 states. Are there any BCS schools other than the Big 10 schools in Big 10 states?

10 are from Pac 10 states. 6 more from bordering Pac 10 states. No school out there to vote for besides Boise State.

10 from Big 12 states with no other BCS schools in any part of that region.

14 from ACC states, counting the ones from Florida along with the SEC.

Cincinatti's coming off a ten win season. There are two pennsylvania teams in the Big East, and Kentucky has one voter, so their state being split isn't a huge deal.

The only way LSU and Michigan have near similar records is because LSU plays a majority of its games against top 25 opponents

If they didn't have the flukey loss to Louisville, and they had managed to finish up their comeback against WV, they'd be in the Championship game instead of LSU. They were two close games away from being in the championship game this past season.

You're right. I blanked out and got Syracuse's location confused with Villanova's location.

If LSU didn't have those 2 "flukey" losses to Ark and Kentucky they would have been undefeated. Ifs don't matter.

It's a matter of proximity. You said that Cincinnati will NEVER sniff a BCS bowl, and I pointed out that they were only 9 points away from being in the championship game. When you're dealing with margins that close, the W-L record doesn't accurately reflect how good a team actually is. If a team plays a close game, and it gets decided on some odd elements, are they really a better team if they win or lose based on some fluke of a field goal or fumble? No. The differences that a single play can make are marginal in terms of team talent, but can be the difference in a close game. Look at it this way, against Auburn, Les Miles made a baffling call to forgo the game winning field goal, in favor of a game winning pass. If the reciever drops that pass, LSU loses, and has a worse record, but are they really a worse team because of it?

What does Appy State have to do with anything we're talking about?

It's important with regards to the importance of Final Rank, as opposed to ranking at the time. Appy State beat a team that was ranked in the top 5 at the time that they played them. Did they beat a team that was actually one of the top five teams in the nation though?

saintsfan912
06-05-2008, 08:13 PM
In that Auburn game, LSU still had one second on the clock so they still had time to kick a FG. And it wasn't a baffling call. It was him having confidence in his "Damn Strong Football Team" to make the play and get the win.

And no, Cincy doesn't deserve to be on the same field as OSU, LSU, USC, UGA, UF, Michigan, ect. If you think they do then you are def. smoking on something really really good. They play a weak schedule and lost to the only good teams they played. Did they beat any team ranked at the end of the season? Nope.

There was one second left once he made the catch. If he bobbled the ball at all before dropping it, LSU is out in the cold. But you're dodging the question.

Actually, they beat two teams ranked at the end of the season, by a combined score of 72-36. Michigan beat... two teams ranked in the final poll, 68-52. Florida beat... ONE team ranked in the final poll.

Anyhow, if we're talking National Title contenders only, then your complaint about splitting the voters in Florida with the ACC is moot, because Miami and FSU have been in shambles for years, and USF finished behind Cincy, who aparently doesn't matter at all. As an LSU fan I was actually pissed UGA didn't get into the Rose Bowl. Then again the winner might have gotten some votes for #1 and well we've been down that road before..

You do realize that it was because the Sugar Bowl claimed Georgia that they couldn't play in the Rose Bowl, right?

Stupid facts, always getting in the way of things.

Valid point, though Miami won't be losing this many games for a while. There's some very good skill in Miami, and I doubt the Canes will be down for long.I expect a 3 loss at the very worse this year. They are in total rebuild mode and need people to step up. Major talent though.

Losses vs. Florida and Virginia Tech are near locks. Other than that, it looks like a nice schedule for all those freshmen to get their experience in.

Texas vs. Georgia or Texas vs. Wisconsin

Basicly a couple of the matchups i wanna see already happen within the sec, this since 3 of the in my opinion top 6 teams of next year will be sec (florida, LSU, Georgia, USC, Oklahoma & Osu ) Any extra matchup between the 6 of 'em would be great next season. On a more historic note i would love to see a once again proper Notre Dame (my fav. col. team usually) play USC but then when ND is good again. Pref. with Jimmy Clausen as a waterboy or a punchbag, damn that kid is annoying.

I think it would be cool if for all our non-conference games we played teams from Texas:

Our current schedule is this:
Arkansas State
@ New Mexico
Miami (Fla.)
Army
@ Oklahoma State
Kansas State
Texas Tech
@ Iowa State
Colorado
Oklahoma
@ Baylor
@ Texas

But I think it would be cool if it were like, Houston/Rice/UNT/TCU/SMU/UTEP instead of the other schools for the non-conference games. Though I am looking forward to the UM rematch.

Wow, that is one lame non-conference. Also, that game at UNM could be a trap game, so be careful.

Actually, all of those are the second parts of home-and-home scheduling, with the exception of the New Mexico game, I believe. And yes, it's a cupcake non-conference but I blame that on the AD and Franhole but it isnt like our conference schedule is easy.
