Just saw it reported on the 7 o clock news in Dallas, said the deal was just finished...Details and link to come, great idea locking him up now making sure he retires a Cowboy...Price range is believed to be in the ballpark of the Moss deal.

EDIT: Thats a 4 year deal

Terrell Owens will have a chance to retire a Cowboy, just as he has wished.

The Dallas Cowboys and the veteran receiver agreed to a four-year deal on Monday through 2011, according to two sources.

Owens, who turns 35 in December, was entering the final year of the three-year, $25 million deal he received in 2006 and was scheduled to receive a $3 million roster bonus Tuesday in addition to a base salary of $4 million.

In two seasons with the Cowboys, Owens has 166 catches for 2,535 yards and 28 touchdowns. He holds the team’s season record with 15 touchdown receptions, set last year. In 15 games in 2007, Owens caught 81 passes for 1,355 yards and was named to the Pro Bowl for the sixth time in his career. He also had four straight 100-yard receiving games. His 45 100-yard games are tied for third most among active players (Indianapolis’ Marvin Harrison leads with 59).

Owens came to the Cowboys after much-publicized run-ins with management, coaches and teammates in San Francisco and Philadelphia. After a tumultuous 2006 season, in which he fought a broken hand, torn tendons in a finger and, at times, the coaching staff, Owens became a leader of sorts under new coach Wade Phillips, offensive coordinator Jason Garrett and receivers coach Ray Sherman.

In 11 seasons, Owens ranks ninth in NFL history with 882 catches for 13,070 yards and 129 touchdowns. Only former teammate Jerry Rice (197) and Cris Carter (130) have more touchdown catches in NFL history. With another 13-touchdown catch season in 2008, he would join Rice as the only receivers in league history with eight seasons of 13 or more TD grabs.

This still in part due to reworking the deals of Romo and Davis, if were strapped for cash this deal wouldn't have happened right now...The list of guys we need to keep is getting smaller.

The deal is 4 years $34mi with $27 mi coming in the first 3 years.

I'm not opposed to this, but giving that much money to a player his age scares me a little bit.

That's not alot of money, even if you forget the fact that TO is going to play at this level at least 3 more seasons...However, we weren't going to sign him for scraps, he just put up two incredible seasons and has a few more left...Again I wouldn't worry about the money aspect, we are fine on the cap, and its an extension not a new deal, so the money isn't going to kill us.

Well this now leaves Hamlin & Canty. I think that Canty will end up signing his offer sheet and get a new deal at some point this year. I'd like to think we'll give Hamlin a long term deal, but I just don't know if there's a lot of money to spend right now. We have to keep some in reserve.

TO is still my favorite player in the league. Despite all the happenings with the 49ers, i still wish him well and think he is the best WR in the NFL right now. I remember watching him beasting it up a few years back, and the guy hasnt slowed down. Best of luck to him and the Cowboys.

Move frees up a bunch of space for this year, so Hamlin and Canty should be resigned sometime in the near future(I hope).

Good move. TO deserves the money and he's shown that he is a good teammate. He's in excellent shape and should be productive for the rest of the contract.

T.O deserves every penny. I'm not even complaining.

Once he retires, he would have played 5 years or more with the Cowboys, wouldn't it be sweet to see him get in the HOF as a Cowboy?? :D

Your absolutely right about earning every penny...But I wanted to post his excerpt for the people who always worry about our cap space, the bolded part are things the average fan doesn't know and worries about, yet don't realize in alot of these long term deals you can free up alot more space.

Owens, who had one year remaining on the three-year deal he signed back in 2006, was due a $3 million roster bonus this week. Instead, he'll be getting much more than that - a three-year extension worth $27 million, on top of this year's salary of about $7 million.

The Cowboys have guaranteed $13 million of Owens' new contract, mostly from a $12.9 million signing bonus.

The deal saves the Cowboys nearly $3 million on this year's salary cap. Owens was scheduled to count $8.6 million, but will now count only $5.7 million.

Thats even more room to work out a deal for Hamlin and Canty both, I expect both to be locked up before the season is out...I keep telling these guys, Jerry knows how to work the cap, its not like we are handing out deals and putting us in cap hell.

As long as Jerry has the money, this only helps our salary cap in the immediate future, no reason to do anything but nod and wave.

What will ultimately decide the success or failure, is obviously how quickly his game deteriorates as he ages. Literally, any other PLAYER in the league, let alone WR, would seriously make me worry about giving them that kind of money at 34-35 years of age. TO, though....what can you say? The guy might play at a Pro Bowl level til he's 40 for all we know.

Here is where learning from Jerry Rice early in his career might pay off. Jerry was playing fantastic football right up until he retired(at 38 wasnt it?)... Both Mentally and physically is what I think TO has learnt from him and thats put him in good stead to be ready for the rigours of football at his age.

Two of his more productive seasons have occurred at the ages of 32 and 33 respectively. I wont expect any deterioration until TO doesnt feel like he wants to play football anymore.

ONly reason this happened might have something to do with uncapped year

Plus were banking on the new revenue that will come in 2009 with the new stadium.
