BENSON BUSTED AGAIN
Posted by Mike Florio on June 7, 2008, 10:17 a.m.
Bears running back Cedric Benson has been arrested. Again.
This time, Benson was busted for driving while intoxicated in Austin. He was stopped for a traffic violation and refused to submit to breath or blood testing.
When Benson was arrested for drunk boating and resisting arrest in May, Benson professed his innocence. Witnesses claimed that Benson had been roughed up by police, who ultimately give him a face full of pepper spray.
This time around, no additional information has been reported as to whether there are any such side issues.
Regardless, the Bears have to be getting tired of this routine. The fourth overall pick in the 2005 draft is becoming far more trouble than he ever was worth.
And remember this — the Bears dumped defensive tackle Tank Johnson last year after Johnson was arrested for suspicion of DUI. Though Johnson presumably was on a last-chance arrangement with the team after being incarcerated earlier in the year on a probation violation, Benson could be in a similar predicament with the team if he has been told in the wake of his May arrest that his next arrest will be his last one as a member of the Chicago Bears.
Normally I could care less... but come on! Twice in like two months for practically the same thing?!?!

take me back to draft time, and i never would have predicted these sort of troubles. The man was in tears expressing his appreciation to the Bears and how hard he was going to work for them. What a load. I have no respect for this guy, he's a clown. Send him to the streets, he doesn't deserve to be an NFL player

I feel stoopid because I believed him the 1st time. He didn't look drunk and so I figured it was the cops.

This probably means the end of his career in Chicago. But that wouldn't be a surprise to anyone.
For his sake, it was a good thing that he didn't submit a breathalyer or blood-test, which with the lawyers he can afford, means that he'll end up getting a slap on the wrist and some probation for this.

But they lost a lot of money for drafting him.

Except he was dumb enough to do this twice in what, a month? I can only assume he will do so again.

i said it in the bears forum and ill say it here again, i have no problem with going forte on 1st and 2nd down, let AP give him a breather every few series, and bring in garrett wolfe on 3rd downs....
we got to 7-9 with worse last year....

You know, I can't even say anything about Benson being a bust because I wanted the Bears to draft BMW. :(

BMW....caddy?
i know i wanted them to go mike williams that year but david ******* terrell was still around stinking things up...the only plus side to having williams would be that we would have KNOWN he was a bust much, much sooner and would have kept TJ around

Maybe because Jarred Allen and Cedric Benson have such similar off the field issues, maybe they could be similar on the field. He could gain 30-40 lbs and be a DE while being the biggest RB in the game! :D JK JK (IDD is loco)

Wow, way to throw away a career Cedric Benson. Way to go.
These people that do this ****, and throw away their careers don't realize that most people would kill for an opputunity like theirs, and for them to waste it. These kind of people are so stupid that I can't even put my opinion into words.

The problem is, once they get their garunteed money, they don't have to care. They've reached their goal. To be rich. Shaun Alexander was made the richest RB in the league. How many years did it take him to go from first to worst? Bryan Thomas got his money and his production fell off the face of the earth. Once upon a time, Mike Williams actually cared about football. Now that he keeps that signing bonus, Michael Vick never has to play a down of football for the rest of his life. Why should he? He's rich!
Then you've got the really stupid ones who **** up before they're rich. Michael Vick has enough money to retire on assuming he didn't piss it all away. Chris Henry on the other hand..... does not. He can't have more than a couple hundred thousand. Thats not enough to retire on and good luck getting a job somewhere else with his history.
The earlier pic refers to and is named "witch hunt." ;)
