A senator from British Columbia has introduced a bill hoping to prevent the National Football League from expanding north of the border. Vancouver senator Larry Campbell introduced the bill earlier this week in an attempt to prevent the NFL from creating an expansion team or relocating a current franchise in Canada.
The move is a response to the decision to have the Buffalo Bills (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/teams/buf/) play eight games at the Rogers Centre in Toronto over the next five years. Campbell believes that move could be a precursor for the Bills eventual relocation to Canada and would lead to the eventual downfall of the Canadian Football League.
"If this plan were to come to fruition, I, together with many others, believe that the CFL's future would be in significant peril," Campbell said when introducing the bill. "As proud Canadians and fans of the CFL, we must make every effort to defend our own brand of football."
Bills Toronto Series Organizers reported in May that 180,000 ticket requests have been registered for the eight games — five regular-season and three exhibition contests — to be played at the Rogers Centre through the 2012 season.

Just one instance of the upcoming battles all nations are going to face regarding their national sovereignties. Globalism is the big new thing the corporations and politicians are pushing, but it comes at a cost.

Thats a lie. And its the obvious answer coming from someone in Toronto. Out west and in Montreal, the CFL is HUGE. Hamilton and Toronto are soooo swept away with hockey, that they could care less about the CFL. The CFL is huge, go to a game at BC, Saskatchewan, Calgary, Edmonton or Winnipeg and tell me you bought your tickets 5 minutes before the game started.
CFL won't go down because of one team. There will still be many players who will want to play in the CFL. Also Canada is a big country so putting 1 team is not going to make a difference. Especially since the team is near the border, the rest of the people may still be into the CFL.

This has got nothing to do with national sovereignty. I can't see how the NFL would negatively affect Canada.
I don't want the NFL in Canada because I think it should be an American league, but not because it's bad for Canada.

Fine then we won't grace the Canadians with our great american sport (CFL dosn't count).
But seriously, why not bring in an NFL team? Because the CFL would be over-shadowed? Dumb reason, I'm sure if you were to ask the average Canadian, what they would rather have I'm willing to bet at least 9/10 of them would prefer the NFL.

YES!
Work your hardest Larry Campbell.
But give us atleast one game in Canada every now an then
BTW, I don't really see how having a NFL team in Canada would destroy the CFL.
Besides itd just be one city.
TORONTO IS THE CENTER OF THE UNIVERSE!
The CFL is actually very fun to watch. In Ottawa, when the Rengades were here they would have Mardi Gras nights in the southside upperdeck. The seats were cheap and yes, there were topless girls who you could throw beads at.

But then where will you get to see greats like Jesee Lumsden and Ricky Ray? There is after all a vast NFL conspiracy to prevent their greatness from playing in the NFL.
I mean Lumsden runs a 2.39 40 and bench presses four hundred..... tons.
Ricky Ray have more passing yards than Payton Manning did with five....... million. Five million passing yards. In one year.
In case your wondering, I'm mocking overzealous CFL fans who claim CFL players are the be all end all.

Saskatchewan=Sasquatchland?
No seriously I thought i had proper topografical knowledge, but I really never heard of the place.
On Topic: If the NFL goes north it'd probably mean that there'll be three or for teams coming (perhaps ever expanding the nfl to 36) so it would probably not be that almost the whole of the canadian footballfans get ass-raped. As long as its only one or two teams I don't see that much danger for the cfl

Ok then move the CFL to the west and let Toronto have an NFL team, problem solved.

I doubt the NFL wants to expand to more teams, since 32 is really a perfect number (2 conferences, 4 divisions per conference of four teams). Essentially to keep the math at least a litle fair they'd have to add 8 more teams, to add either one team to each division or create one new division per conference. Then, with so many extra teams they'd have to add another round in the playoffs. Not to mention the season getting longer too.

The NFL having a few games in Canada will do nothing but stimulate Toronto and it's surrounding's economy. The Bills playing a few games in Toronto, or even a team moving their via expansion or relocation, will not clinch the CFL's demise because the CFL has found a niche to fill. If a player can't land on a roster in the states, he has a few options. He can go to Europe and possibly represent a team, find a 9-5 job and stop playing football, or go to Canada with a good chance at landing on a roster. It offers players who can't make the NFL the chance to play football and stay in North America. There will always be players who want to play in the CFL after failing in the NFL, and as rukster said, there are plenty of cities who embrace their CFL teams.
If Toronto eventually has a team, then good for it's citizens. But, I doubt that Canada will ever have a team per province, and with just one team in Toronto, you have one NFL team for an entire nation. In America, some states alone have 3 teams, and with 32 all together, there's quantity and quality. There's no demand for other football organizations, so they fizzle out. One team will not kill an entire league, especially when the other league was there first and already has planted it's roots.
This is silly.
Adarius Bowman is playing for Saskatchewan? Christ...he'll destroy CFL DB's. Toronto is more than a big enough city to support an NFL team and they would have a ton of corporate sponsorship. I don't really see how this affects the CFL other than the franchise in Toronto [which could be easily moved to Ottawa].
And we won't be one country in 10 years....come on now....

I doubt the NFL could kill the CFL. As long as there are players that can't make an NFL squad looking to continue their football careers there will be other football outlets. It's possible that an NFL team in a CFL city could hurt that CFL team, however, so there might be some validity to the concern on a city by city basis.
But I highly doubt the NFL will be looking to add several teams at once anyway. Maybe one team in Canada over the next few years and one in Mexico.

Senators in canada are pretty meaningless. they aren't elected, their appointed by the governement and they just almost always approve whatever bill that parliament passes. Its a cozy job that the government gives to supporters. For a longtime alot of senators would only go to a couple meetings a year and collect money to do nothing. They recently changed that due to public outcry over a few senators living year round in the carribean, but they still do nothing.
It has no chance of passing. Both the liberals and conservatives are in favor of free trade and let foreign companies buy canadians ones for decades.
