The Chicago Bulls select Derrick Rose PG, Memphis

http://toppayingideas.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/04/derrick-rose-ncaa.jpg

Derrick Rose gives this team the franchise player and leader they have needed since MJ retired. He not only is a playmaker at PG who can play hard nosed defense and is a huge improvement over Kirk Hinrich, but he also makes his teamates better. The addition of Rose will help the development of guys like Sefolosha, Tyrus Thomas, and Noah to go with improvement from Luol Deng. Despite the great talent and potential of Beasley for us this pick was a no brainer and this is a match made in heaven.

Great pick for us as he's an excellent scorer off the bench which we desperately need. Won't be pressured to carry the team with VC, Harris, Wilcox and RJ leading the way for the offense. He'll learn D with age and maturity, and he made it obvious he wanted to come here. He's smart, mature and a good leader with great intangibles.

The Chicago Bulls select Marreese Speights PF/C Florida University

http://3rdsaturdayinblogtober.files.wordpress.com/2008/02/speights.jpg

Reach? Yes it is, but we love his potential and talent. We could have gone BPA with Joe Alexander however we have a logjam at SF with Luol Deng and Andres Nocioni. We could have gone SG with Brandon Rush however we got young guys Thabo Sefolosha and Shannon Brown to go with Larry Hughes. We could have chosen Darrell Arthur however we feel that the versatility of Speights that he could play both positions down low was the determining factor. Gooden is in the last year of his contract and its doubtful he will get resigned and Tyrus Thomas has one more year to prove whether he is a bust or not. With Speights we got insurance and he wont be rushed to start as he will have time to develop.

The San Antonio Spurs select L.R. Mbah a Moute from UCLA.

http://www.cnnsi.com/si_blogs/ncaa_tourney/2008/uploaded_images/23pool-726312.jpg

Mbah a Moute is the perfect fit for San Antonio. He has the toughness and grit that Popovich loves. He'll learn to enhance his already top notch defensive skills from one of the best in Bruce Bowen. The Spurs need youth at the wings with Finley, Barry and Bowen all aging rapidly. While some may feel this is a reach, the Spurs have a strong track record for finding diamonds in the rough and have no problems making selections that most don't see eye to eye with.

The New Orleans Hornets select:

PF J.J. Hickson

http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/0d6g0Ro4RrdBP/340x.jpg

We were trying to decide between Hickson and a combo forward named Davon Jefferson. What was the deciding factor in taking Hickson is the fact that we consider him a steal at this point. He will have time to learn and develop behind David West which will allow us to move Julian Wright to his more natural SF position. It also gives us some insurance in case West or Stojakovic comes down with an injury.

06-18-2008, 04:43 PM
The Memphis Grizzlies select F Ryan Anderson, Cal

http://assets.espn.go.com/photo/2008/0203/ncaa_a_anderson_580.jpg

Statistically, there are few players in the NCAA who are in the same league as Anderson -- shooting over 50% from the field, over 40% from the perimeter, and 80% from the foul line. He is aggressively attacking the basket and using his ball-handling ability better to penetrate from the perimeter against opposing big men. He utilizes a combination of finesse and good footwork to get around defenders and get the ball into the basket. He’s just as good in the open court, doing a good job of putting the ball in the basket in transition. His release looks excellent, with a high release point and quick release, and his range extends all the way to the NBA three-point line.

Latest news is that Fran Vazquez is going back to Spain. Whooppdee friggen whooo cares now! Unexpectedly able to draft Hardin here erases all the pain. Hardin is a dark horse sleeper in this draft. A Jermaine O'Neal clone. He hasn't really played up to his potential, but his ceiling is sky high. A true physical specimen, Devon could start right away on many NBA teams. He'll be rotating in off the bench to spell Kenyon and Dwight at either PF or C spots. We couldn't have hoped for this, but it sure is nice!

With their final selection of the 2008 NBA Draft, the Orlando Magic select PF Darnell Jackson from the University of Kansas.

We wanted to add more beef and toughness in the post and we most certainly addressed it by drafting the 6'9" 250 pound Jackson who will provide depth behind Kenyon Martin at the 4.
