This is starting to turn into a hell of a tournament. Yesterday was incredible to watch with the top three golfers in the world pairing up and today was just as amazing with Tiger making two eagles in the final six holes. Honestly, I cannot wait for this to start tomorrow. Anyone else tuning in?

Forenci
06-14-2008, 09:32 PM
I'll probably watch a bit of it, though to be honest I think I'm with most people when I feel like the only thing or player really worth watching is Tiger Woods.

I love Tiger, the guy is ultra competitive and makes some amazing shots. Should be interesting to see how he does considering he is in quite a bit of pain with his knee. You've gotta hand it to him for playing through it.

It should be good.

Twiddler
06-14-2008, 09:37 PM
Yeah, the knee is starting to worry me. If he is going to end up winning this, he will be scraping it togethor towards the end of tomorrow's round.

06-14-2008, 09:42 PM
Wearing the red on Father's Day would lead me to believe he's a lock solely based on that, but with the knee... I don't know. He was really having some troubles there at the end, but it didn't seem to affect him when he would do that cut shot, but who knows. Those two eagles and that ridiculous birdie were amazing.

Tiger has some huge onions and i don't see him losing tomorrow to Rocco...it's more or less a match play scenario, yeah i know they count all the strokes, but tiger in a heads up situation is nearly unbeatable

Im not a huge golf fan, but I watched today and it was pretty sweet. I think wats more important than even this to think about is that if tiger wins this, itll be his 14th major, leaving him 4 behind nicklaus, with a good 30 years of pro golf left in him. now THAT is scary

Yeah. That was great.

I really hope Rocco doesn't win though. Even though people don't think it, everything's going for him. Tiger having to play another 18 holes is going to take its toll. Something about Rocco rubs me the wrong way though. He seems kind of fake, trying to play to the crowd as that guy to root for because people just want to hate on Tiger.

I agree. Golf is nothing without Tiger. Not only does he make it watchable but he also has made golf an exceptionally popular sport for people to play themselves. It was fairly popular to play before Tiger, and maybe it's just me, but it seems like just about EVERYONE plays golf now.

True enough, but can you really blame them? Pretty much everything they say is absolutely true. He is in my mind the best athlete across just about any sport and he hasn't even hit his prime yet.

I like Rocco too and was pulling for him or Tiger, but I love watching Tiger play. He's transformed golf from being stuck up and snobby into something everyone can enjoy. That's probably because he's such an intense competitor in the game of golf, which is somewhat unusual for what isn't considered a team sport.

I'm just happy an American will win the US Open. I don't mean that in a snobby, "Screw everyone else, America owns all" type of way either. If I was watching the British Open I would like to see an Englishman win it. It's just nice to see.

Yeah, I guess I'll be rooting for Rocco. I won't watch it, though. 10 holes today was enough to last me awhile. I don't really root for or against anybody, but Rocco and that Trahan guy had some nice shots today. Would've liked Rocco to sink that short birdie earlier on the back 9.

I do not consider Golf a "Sport" because "Sports" involves people called "Athletes." You're telling me guys like John Daly are athletes? Please. When a 70 year old like Arnold Palmer can enter a Tournament and play with guys 20 years old, you have to sit back and consider whether golf is really a sport or not, and I say no it isn't.

Tiger may be an athlete, but not a lot of the guys on Tour are. In my area, mostly the richies play it so I've always considered golf to be a yuppy sport, a white collar activity.

I consider Golf an activity, but not a sport.

princefielder28
06-16-2008, 01:47 PM
Like djp stated if you think Golf is not a sport then obviously you never played it. It requires individuals to be in some form of physical fitness to be successful, it involves well thought out shots and strategy, you must your hands, hips, and legs all in sync to create the shot in which you are attempting, and I would say it's just as much of a mental game as it is a physical game.

They're just bad at golf, or they just refuse to go.

It's as much of a sport as any other major sport. David Wells was a successful pitcher, Pat Williams is fatter than hell and is an elite defensive tackle.

I think it's extremely short-sided to just dismiss golf as not a sport. It may not be as physically demanding as the other major sports, but there's no doubt it's as mentally demanding as the other sports.

Do you not consider tennis a sport also? They both take perfect coordination and timing. And football surely isnt a sport that is just a game adults playing a kids game all they are is pumped up on steroids try to hit each other as hard as they can hoping to break their bones, right?

Golf is as much of a sport as Billiards, Poker and Bowling.

Billiards and Bowling still require some sort of physical activity, but those games are a lot more based on skill than they are athleticism, just like golf.

It was a great match, really.

I think the thing that truly made it competitive for Rocco is that the course was very friendly to not having a ton of power off your tee shots. It was more about accurate ball placement. Just get it on the fair way and play it from there - that's what helped Rocco the most.

Still, I was glad to see Rocco compete and do well. I'm a huge Tiger guy though, so I was happy to see him win. The guys legacy just continues to get bigger, which is unreal.

With the new information about the extent of Tiger's injury I can honestly say that this was the most impressive major I've seen in my lifetime. Simply astounding to play on such a screwed up leg and win after two months of not playing. I wish him well on his recovery.
