Hahahahah Yessssss.. i was hoping i would get one of the first two picks.. But now i'm in a pickle, because i gotta choose between my personal favorite and one with great great songs, or the most commercially successful singer.

But.. in the end.. i have to go with the man, the legend.. the one and only..

Yeah, don't get me wrong, love me some Garth as well, but George Strait's music opens up a pandora's box of emotions inside. It's just great.

Edit- Yes, I was referring to Garth Brooks

Agreed 100%, but you have to admit Garth sings some that tug at the emotions a bit too, ex. Beaches of Cheyenne, More Than a Memory, The Dance, The Thunder Rolls, (One of my favorite Songs of all time) Unanswered Prayers, Standing Outside the Fire, We Shall be Free. The list is much bigger than that. Plus all of his other great party songs: Aint Goin Down till the Sun Comes Up, Friends in Low Places (Also one of my favorite songs) Longneck Bottle, Two Pina Coladas, Beer Run, American Honky Tonk Bar Associtation. Beleive it or not I did not have to look at anything to remember those songs, and I could sing all of them word for word right now. Though the same could be said about Strait, he has a neverending list of songs that I have memorized and sung along to thorughout my life. You honestly can't go wrong with either of theses two, or the one who I am presuming will go #3.

eaglesalltheway
06-16-2008, 08:16 PM
Speaking of emotional songs, (sorry if this is too random) but has anybody heard a song by Crystal Showanda called "You Can Let Go"? It is honestly one of the best songs out there rihgt now IMO. This girl can sing her ass off and the story behind the song is one that will make you buckle at the knees in the last verse.

badgerbacker

Garth Brooks and George Strait were #1 and #2 on my board. Both are obviously legends, I've just always had a preference for Garth.

Who puts "kay aye diggy diggy kay aye diggy diggy," as lyrics? That is so stupid. Your Gonna Miss This is the most overplayed song I have ever heard. I havent gone more than 1 day in awhile without hearing that song and I dont even drive that much. Rodney Atkins I like but not Trace Adkins.

First pick, gotta take the man with more #1 country records than anybody in history....

Conway Twitty

Second pick, gotta take one of perhaps the three leading women of country music.. I chose this one because she's more recognizable...

Dolly Parton

Dolly PartonIf this were 1992 that would have been a great pick. Unfortunately, Conway Twitty died in 1993 and also George Strait broke the record for #1's.

Since it's slow right now, just thought i'd post some of my favs from the first overall pick, George Strait.

I met a friend of yours today (Mel Street did a rendition of this, leaving me questioning who the original writer was. Love the song though, crazy good), House with no doors, Blame it on Mexico, I know she still loves me, I can still make Cheyenne, What's goin on in your world, Ocean Front Property, Does Ft Worth ever cross your mind, The chair.

Most of those are Heartbreakers and will be enjoyed at their very best when consuming large amounts of alcohol.

George Strait = Country Royalty.

So many other good songs from George, honestly, any one of his songs is memorable. I have yet to hear a song by him that is ho hum. He could go on stage and sing the ABCs and it would be a hit.

Honytonk Badonkydonk shouldn't be taken seriously, that is right. But I must say I agree with you 100% on "You're Gonna Miss This". I don't even really like the song. I also haven't gone a day without hearing it AT LEAST twice on the radio, but I listen to the radio a lot. Songs about me is awesome, and anyone whos heard the song "Arlington" has so much respect for this man. Remember back in the late 90s when he did "Every Light in the House is On"? Most people don't remember that was him that sang that song, and that is a song that whenever you hear it, you say its been too long since you heard it last. He has so many sogns though that I really like, and depending on how long this goes, he may be a possible pick for me.

I like Carrie Underwood, and I was thinking about possibly picking her with my last pick. She has released 7 singles, all 7 of those reached #1 on the country music charts. I'm no rocket scientist, but that seems like a pretyy good success ratio to me. I've gotta say "Last Name" is my favorite song by her so far, but most people don't agree with me on that.

I think EATW is winning but that may be because I am a big Paisley fan and I love More than a Memory by Garth. Dierks isnt bad selection. I love the Jason Aldean pick by SNIPER. He has had like one CD and like 3 or 4 hits.

Aldeans had two albums, but Relentless is packed with loads of songs that we should be hearing on the radio at some point, and all of them are good.

Damnit Metsox, I looked on the front page and thought I could make my pick. You saw who it was that I thought I could pick , and I told you we would both be going after the same one. I'm going to revise my pick to Taylor Swift. Not many guys may be a fan of her music, but let me tell you, I am a big fan. She actually grew up near me and I met her, Brad Paisley, and Kelly Pickler at a concert. You guys familiar with the music video for "Online"? The concert scenes were taken at the concert I was at in Allentown, and if you look hard enough and now where I'm sitting, you can see the top of my head for a moment or two, haha. She is the next country superstar, and I am actually surprised she lasted this long. I have her CD, and there are 5 songs that were released to the radio. Theyv've all been big hits. And to be honest, my favorite song from that album isn't even out yet. I'm hoping "Mary's Song" (Also called My, My, My)is released to the radio, that song is unbeleivable.

Edit: Oh, and just look at my sig pertaining to Taylor Swift...

Not to be arrogant or anything, but i think i'm completely owning this..

To be honest, (and I'm not trying to be arrogant) its really only down to you and me. Sniper is my third favorite right now, but honestly, so far, it is a toss up between you and me. It just depends on who each individual poster likes more. I can definitely see either of us winning, but we had the first two picks, so we should win. I really can't find anyone's "team" that I don't like, but that is because I am such a big fan. But there are certainly some that I like more than others, and being as unbiased as possible, I think our teams are the best.

eaglesalltheway
06-19-2008, 06:35 AM
My next pick is Blake Shelton. Very surprised he fell this far. I thought with the success of "Home" he might go a little earlier than this, but a great singer nonetheless. "Ol' Red" is one of my favorites, and theres "Some Beach" and so many others that this guy has. Plus hes got a very, very hot girlfriend in Miranda Lambert".

eaglesalltheway
06-19-2008, 06:38 AM
I select Josh Turner. Pretty young guy, but I think he's going to be churning out hits for a long time. Also probably the lowest (and most awesome) voice in country music.

http://www.ncstatefair.org/2007a/Competitions/webgraphic/HH021/1033_ABBYNORRISHHO21/JoshTurner.jpg

Agreed on all of that there. He has my favorite voice in any genre of music. Nice pick, I was looking to possibly pick him up. I'm a BIG fan of Turner. I have two of his albums and all of the songs are great. I'm not a super religious person, but I must say some of his songs are so powerful and make you think so much. Props to you for a great pick.

I like Taylor Swift too. She has a ton of talent and not to mention she writes all/if not most of her songs. I went to her concert when she was opening for George Strait and Ronnie Milsap and she was really good. I probably liked her act the best because you could tell she was really getting into it while George and Ronnie were just standing there. She stayed after and signed for everyone that stayed as well and dang, she is taller than me. She is like 6'0 or 6'1.

Its nice when you can say that sort of stuff to people and they knwo your joking, there are certain people her that you say something like that to and they jump all over you for personal attacks or whatever. You did? May I thank you from the bottom of my heart. He is the only poster I have ever considered reporting. Honestly, the week he was banned was the best week I've had on this site in a while. I was beginning to wonder if I had scared him off, but ohh man thanks so much. You are gonna get as much rep from me as possible for the next few days for that. Go into the eagles forum and look at my posts when he is involved, ayou can definitely tell how I feel about him. The idiot was putting out mock drafts for the Eagles a week after the draft this year, and he kept doing it. He had at least ten, and we told him to stop by the thrid one. His excuse, "I'm bored and theres nothing to do". If there was nothing to do fro him then, I can only imagine what he did for the week he couldn't access this site. Did I mention I was thankful. I will probably randomly thank you for that again some day down the road when he gets on my nerves, so be ready...

I pick Gary Allen. He has had a solid career so far and is steadily becoming a country star. I actually wasn't a big fan of "Watching Airplanes", but a lot of people would disagree, as that was a chart topper for a while earlier this year. We're just going to go about today as if it were yesterday... So Broth has his pick in, and now Byrd has til 12:00 ET. After that broth has til 1:00. Badger til 2:00, S4L till 3:00, fisch, till 4:00, Sniper (me) till 5, me until 6:00 and Metsox till 7:00. (All times Easter Standardm haha) That is the end of the draf then and I am debating whether we should start a new thread for voting or just keep in in this one.

Always better for a new thread I think I will also throw together something special for my draft.

I was leaning towards a new thread, so I guess we'll do that. I won't put it together though until all of the picks have been made though, OK?

Lucero. One of the best current alt country bands. They have a punk flavor to their music

In place of sniper, I pick Dwight Yoakam. One of the best singers of the 80s anbd early to mid 90s. Lots of popular songs, and I personal favorite of mine.

eaglesalltheway
06-22-2008, 04:20 PM
I pick Kid Rock. Some may say not really a country singer, but I would disagree. He does so many styles in his music. His latest album has rock, country, blues, and even a little hip hop in it. To be honest, I like every song on the album Rock n Roll Jesus, and there are none that are bad. Metsox is up and Byrd still needs to make hsi picks.

Damn you said that the Eagles were a streatch Kid Rock only has one song that is remotly country which is Picture with Sheryl Crowe

Correction, he has only one POPULAR song that is known in country. He usually has at least one purely country song in each of his albums. His latest has a few, and beleive it or not, All Summer Long has been getting some playing time on CMT. There is another song on his new album that is country, and I can't remember what its called right now, but it is one of my favorite songs on the disc.

I will say this though, Kid Rock is a stretch, and a bigger stretch than the Eagles by any way of thinking, but like the Eagles, Kid Rock does have a small country following. Metsox has his pick yet and we still need Byrd to make his picks, then we'll put up the voting thread.

The weird thing about Kid Rock though is he has a very versatile voice. His singing style works in Country, Rock, Hip Hop, Blues, and sometimes I detect a little R&B. I don't know how he is accepted by Hip Hop, but his voice works well in all genres, IMO.

In hip hop it seems the only thing you need is a nice beat and you're accepted. Kid rock has more than that however.

Yeah, his voice seems to work with anything. If you had the sound on monkeys throwing their crap at eachother in the background there is still a chance that he would sound good.

Sniper, were my picks for you alright? I was trying to give you the best ones available I thought you would like. You seem like an old school type with your country music, so I gove you old-school guys. I wouldn't object to you changing some of the picks if there are ones you would prefer.

Nope, but Cheryl Crow actually wasn't who I thought you would pick. I thought you would pick Sarah Evans, one of the sexiest women in counrty music. I say we give her to Byrd. I'm gonna go look for a picture that is burned into my brain.
