View Full Version : how many fantasy football teams is too many

last year was my first year of playing fantasy football addictavely and i only had two teams so i would like to know how many teams is it before it gets too much?

I've never done more then one league with the same group of friends, for the past 3 years.
One of my friends had like 5 leagues. I didn't get that because then he had like every player spread out over his 5 different teams and I didn't see the point. When someone scored, it never really made a difference. Part of the fun of it is seeing those game break highlights and seeing someone on your team score.

I only do 1 a year.

I've done 8 before, but it's much more fun when you keep it below 4 teams IMO, with 2 being ideal.

3 is gonna be my limit this year. I don't like owning every single player in the league on one team or another. Makes rooting for individuals to have a good week pretty lame.
06-28-2008, 11:24 AM
I only do 1 or 2 teams a year. Anyone who has more then 3 teams is addicted.

Personally, I hate having more than 3. It just gets annoying unless you have great groups of people to do it with. This year I'm in 4 different leagues with 4 sets of people who will all be involved so it should be fun.
I'd say 3 is the most I'd go for these days.. Ideally I'd go with just 1 or 2.. I think I had 4 or 5 last year. I'm a sucker for drafting.
Technically, I was in 5 last year, but one of the leagues I really didn't care about.
I am in college, where you have a lot of free time (and laptop ability in class), so it wasn't that big of a deal.
It was kind of lame rooting against players, but your lows were never that low and there were occasions where I won all 5 games in a week. I think it happened 3 times. I never lost more than 3 times in a week.
Ended up winning 2, finishing 2nd in another 2, and missing the playoffs in my 5th league.

I have 1 serious one that i put down about $500 plus (including transactions one), will porbably have a work one and have about 2-3 yahoo teams.

3 has to be the limit otherwise you'll be cheering for every player in the league

i had 8...that was boring. So ill go with about 2-3 this year

It's no fun when you have multiple teams, you're rooting for every single player and every single team. I'll probably just do 1, maybeee 2.
06-28-2008, 01:45 PM
I try to keep it no more then two any thing after that is just to much to keep track for me and takes the fun out of it.
06-28-2008, 01:54 PM
I'm in too many as it is right now. Jbond's ultimate league, D-Unit's war league, Xio just invited me in one, and the uber keeper Jbond invited me in with renji and longhorns legend. so that's 4, already haha an I normally do one with my bro too. oh well hah
06-28-2008, 01:58 PM
I usually stick with 2, then halfway through the season ditch one and pretty much root for the one who still has a chance.
06-28-2008, 03:50 PM
3 is the most I've ever done. As it has been said already, 3 or more does make it hard to root for anyone exclusively.

I like to stick to 1 or 2. This year will be the same as last year, D's league and a random one on yahoo. Looking to go back to back. Woo! If one of my friends starts one this year, I'll probably be in but, that would be enough. I think anything over 2 is too many for me.

Last year was my first year doing more than 2 leagues.
I had 2 on Yahoo, 3 on NFL.com, and 1 on ESPN, for a total of 6.
That ended up being too many for me.
I'll probably do 2 on Yahoo, and 1 with my friends (through ESPN)
I only do 1 a year.
Same here just one serious league so there are certainly player loyalties with me.

well I am one of the people have is addicted to it, Which I already have 4 Teams already and a 5th one set up.
06-28-2008, 04:39 PM
Stick to two, maybe 3.
One for money, one for fun.

There is never too many, it doesn't take much to manage multiple teams if your into it that heavy...I'm currently in 3 dynasty leagues, a keeper, and Jbond's and D-Unit's 20 team leagues at this point, I might pick up a few more if some come up, I just prefer the dynasty format more so then redrafts so I've joined quite a few of those.
All you have to do is follow up on player news through the week and set your rosters early, I could probably have 10 leagues and not sweat it...Keep in mind this is just how much you put into it, I'm always looking to trade and make moves so I don't mind having the extra teams to work with, besides in keepers and especially dynasties your not doing as much adding and dropping as a redraft anyway so after your initial start up draft its pretty easy to manage from there.

I only ever used to do 1 a year, but that was when we did a live draft with all my friends and family back home. We did that for 7 years I think. Always had atleast 12 people, some years we would have 16. I miss the all day drafts.
The last few years I have done Yahoo leagues. The free ones are too easy, as many people give up if they lose the first 2 or 3 games. I dont see how it is so hard to keep up with things. I usually joined 12 leagues and would win 8 to 10 of them easily. Thats no fun.
I'm not doing any free leagues this year. I have joined JBonds $50 keeper league on Yahoo. That will probably be the only one I do this year. Unless my brother wants to get in on a more expensive one with me.

I've had anywhere from 3 to 15. 15 was too many for me. It's all in how much time you have and how it works for you. I now stick between 4 and 6 each year.
06-28-2008, 07:34 PM
I usually do two to three a year. I always do one with some real life friends, and I'm doing the NFLDC one this year. Will probably keep it to those two.
06-28-2008, 07:41 PM
Last year i did 4 leagues and i won all 4 of them. Wasn't too tough to keep up with, but you did find yourself cheering for most RB's on sunday.
BTW, If anyone here is setting up a league and needs a player, PM me, i have yet to join any leagues. I usually wait till a month or so before the season, but go ahead and let me know now.

How'd you know...

Last year I did like 6 or 7, and it was way to much to handle. I try to keep it to 3 or 4. I do a NFL.com (1st one I ever did, its tradition), I do that one early to guage where everyone is falling. Then I have one w/ my dad. Rover league. And a friends league

I do 4 usually in a year. 2 Yahoo! publics, and usually 2 private leagues.

I stick to only 1, which i run with an offline forum where i do team evaluations after the draft, throughout the season, and after the season. I have a friend do power rankings whenever he can. It makes the league that much more interesting, but takes me a lot of time. For each team in the post draft i do write-ups on things like reaches, value picks, team strength and weaknesses, things of that nature. Each team is a little under a page of a word document, so with 12 teams it can add up. And some people don't always like hearing me bash there teams if i feel they made a mistake. In which case they are welcome to kiss mine and make a comment of their own.

I did about 15 one year, was way to much. I'll stick to around 5 this year.

Exactly 8. 9 is too many.
But that's because everyone forces me to do one, and i only have the time to devote to 8. max.
