"Kevin Jones, whose agent anticipates him signing with Pittsburgh or Chicago, will be at Halas Hall to take a physical for the Bears on Tuesday.

Jones is expected to sign a one-year deal with either of the teams on Tuesday. It sounds like if Jones doesn't pass the Bears' tests, he'll sign with Pittsburgh. If Jones checks out well, he'll be a Chicago Bear. Jones' agent stated in June that Chicago would be his client's ideal landing spot."

Hmmm... Giving up of Wolf already?

I still find it hard to believe we'll keep 4 backs...

If healthy that's a good move. Probably the only free agent on the market right now that could help us. A good #2 and competition for Forte.

As for keeping 4 backs, there's really no reason why we can't since Peterson and Wolfe are both special teams players.

I really hope he will be healthy...i dont want to see us throwing money at someone who will be hurt in week 2

I'm not a fan....because somehow this will end up being called "bringing in competition" and I'd much rather just let Forte take the job and run with it. (literally) Get the future on now so we can see what we have in Forte as the full time runner instead of Jones who hasn't been healthy for a full season in what.....4 years now?

Sounds like its all but done, per roto:

Free agent Kevin Jones is leaning towards signing with the Bears over the Steelers, according to Booth Newspapers.
It's a virtual no-brainer. Even if the Steelers were offering a bit more money (which we doubt anyways), clearly the best opportunity for Jones to rehab his value is in Chicago. A deal could be completed by Tuesday night. Jones is expected to receive the league minimum on a one-year agreement.

Why do so many people think it's so hard to keep 4 RB's (when 2 of them will get most of their PT on ST anyway)? Last year we originally had what, 8 linebackers on the final roster? That is much more crazy than 4 RB's.

To make room for 4 RB's, all we have to do is carry just 1 FB instead 2 like we did for much of last season.

Yeah that worked great with Benson.

You realize competition helps push players to do their best right? Both Benson and Jones benefited from it. Orton and Grossman will benefit from it, etc.

Signing Jones to a one year deal is a good move. If he doesn't pan out we can drop him after this year but if he does we didn't pay a lot of money to him this year and can re-negotiate after this season.

Good move KJ is an above average back. Splitting time or spelling Forte and he should do well. Most likely against the Lions (sigh).

KJ should be fully recovered from the freak Lisfranc injury which takes usually two years and seems to be quickly recovering from the ACL. Both his injuries were later in the seasons. He was week to week(some better than others with his foot) last year but still played and did decent when given the chance with more than a carry allowed by Martz. He is a good pass catcher out of the backfield as well. Good move by the Bears, especially for a 1 year deal. If he gets hurt you're just back to where you started and by then Forte will have some game experience and Peterson will be fresh.

You must think being sexy is overrated. Let me assure as someone that is extremely sexy, it's not.

SIGNED!!!

I like this move. Low risk/High reward.

Competition is good and KJ will be playing for a contract which is always good!

Go Bears!

Wait now you like this move? In your original post you said that you didn't think we could carry 4 RB's.

It was more, the beginning of a debate... Will we carry 4 rbs? Did we give up on Wolf? Will AP be let go? Will KJ come in and be our feature?

That sorta thing.

I suggested this move before and like it now. I didnt think they would do it, but i like it. Forte is the starter, Jones is the speller.

I like the move, Jones I think still has potential to be a very good RB, and it was smart to bring in a young but talented vet to spell Forte

This is the Bears best offseason move so far. You get KJ who tho injury prone will give you everything he has on every play. You also get him for basically nothing. Hell the Lions will pay him more then you to play for your team this year. I always liked KJ and was sad to see him let go. I wish him the best and hope he can get past the injury bug now that he has a Oline that can actually block for him.

I kind of agree with that, this I think is our best move. Yeah, the draft was good, that can be #1, but this is the best move the Bears have made. KJ I have always liked, nice runner, and I feel a lot better about the running back situation now. Sure, we dont have anything tremendous, but we have a lot of solids, with a lot of potential to be good.

Per Roto:

"The Chicago Sun Times suggests that new Bears RB Kevin Jones (ACL surgery) could begin the season on the Physically Unable to Perform list.
Jones is less than seven months removed from an injury that typically needs at least eight months of recovery. He couldn't say for sure if he'll be ready for camp when asked Tuesday. "They're going to be cautious with me," he said. "The doctors recommended I don't get hit in the first week of training camp. I don't know what the plan is for the preseason." The Chicago Sun Times says Jones' addition is "not expected to diminish the role of (Matt) Forte."

I'm disappointed to see he might start on the PUP. I was just hoping he'd been 100% outta the gate. Wishful thinking, it seems.

he has a lot to prove and will play hurt. he should definately help your run game and help secure a few wins. the only bad thing this does is mess up everybody's fantasy drafts.

thats fine, we'll get to see Forte out of the gate. Then as the season wears on, like the 3rd or 4th game, Jones can start spelling him (hopefully), then our run game will hopefully be dynamic.
