He is one of the lesser known running backs this year (as opposed to the likes of Moreno, McCoy, Murray, Wells). His production is a small notch under that of Moreno and McCoy, but he has much better size than both of them. Don't get the impression that he is a big, slow back though- one of Unga's main pros is his elusiveness in the open field. He has legitimate 4.4- 4.5 speed, and has the explosiveness to hit the whole hard and fast. Another pro for Unga is his receiving ability (as seen by his recieving stats)- he has great hands which makes him look like a receiver out there at times.

The main issue for Unga would probably be his consistency and vision, although those areas will almost certainly improve with more experience. He does have great production and has shown a great skillset for a freshman.
He is comprable to Jamal Lewis. He has the size and the power running ability, but it is his deceptive speed and his moves in the open field that are very reminiscent of the former Tennessee running back. At this point Unga is probably worth a round 1 pick in my books, but with more experience he will almost certainly rise higher than that.

*Just like Moreno, LeSean McCoy and Demarco Murray he is a red shirt sophomore so he is eligible for the draft.

Looks like he went on a mission from 04-06, so last year he was just as old as seniors, I don't think the NFL likes when guys are that old, especially at the RB position.

Yup, he'll be 22. I'm actually a BYU fan so I know a little bit on the guy. He's definitely a gamer. All the things that were said about him are true. Now that he'll be taking the full load this season with the departure of Tonga, we'll get to see the Unga show on full blast. He's the perfect way to keep defenses honest when defending BYU's Spread Offense. You under play the pass, he'll beat you up on the ground. You over play the run, Max Hall will have you DBs eating turf. He's a great threat taking hand offs, but he's also a weapon catching the ball.

But he's got less tread on those tires. It would be awesome to see him make it in the NFL.

Clever Clever.. Harvey Unga is a lot more physical than Staley was. That may be a blessing or a curse seeing that Staley's career was marred by injuries.

With running backs it's not as important as with QBs. QBs are more likely to last into their older years, so it's more likely that they're going to leave the league due to age. Running backs tend to leave the league due to wear and tear. Most of them bail out before they hit the age where RBs start to decline regardless of load.

I wasn't comparing the two. Just reminiscing on the last great white RB of our time, lol. But seriously, he left after his Jr. year. WTH was he thinking.

Unga doesn't look white he looks like he is Somoan.

Unga is actually tongan.. along with Fui Vakapuna and Manase Tonga. One guy to look for this season is RB JJ Diliugi from the California State Champs Canyon HS. He's quick and has Bush like playmaking ability.

Yeah we were all pretty shocked in cougar land when Staley left.

Yeah the clip was impressive. Only a 3*, but he looks like he has a quick twitch and Rivals had him as they're midwest sleeper that year, information provided via an article on his profile.

I went to the game. He's the real deal. His QB was the younger brother of Cal's QB Longshore. He should see some playing time this season.

He's only reiterating something we already know. Duh.

Nope

He's a redshirt sophomore and never been on a mission.
