I hope I am not the only person here who collects baseball cards (or football, hockey, basketball and other sports). I've been collecting since about 1988.

Feel free to discuss baseball card issues, your most valuable or favorite cards, etc.

My most valuble is a 1968 Topps Nolan Ryan rookie card. It's valued at about $500. I'm sure if I sent it in to be graded I could get about $1500 for it.

A friend of mine has a couple of Nolan Ryan signed baseballs.

That same friend has a Ken Griffey Jr rookie card, that was a factory error printed one. Worth some good jack.

Back when LeBron James was a rookie, I was up late one night and saw an HSN or QVC or something like that kind of show... and they were selling LeBron James Upper Deck All Star game cards from the year Lebron was a rookie. Well, as you know, Lebron didn't make the All Star game in his rookie year. So they stopped printing the card, but this show was selling it. I was intrigued by it, so I placed an order. They were selling the single card for a hundred bucks. I was probably ripped off, but I wonder how much it would be worth today....

I had nice collection going about ten years ago, I was way into it. I always bought the cards by the boxes, and always had the card magazines for the value of the cards, loved it. Then one day I just stopped.

The most valuable card in my collection was probably my 1989 Topps Troy Aikman Rookie. No idea where it is now. But the card I always wanted was Griffey 1989 Upper Deck. I was big Griffey fan, and I had a huge collection just of his cards, but I never got this one.

You weren't ripped off. Misprints give a huge value upgrade on cards over normal ones.

The friend i was referring to in my previous post has that exact card, but it was a misprint. It has all of his face but the border around him was all messed up, but the card obviously was in very good conditions.

At the time he showed it to me (around 1999) it was worth around 500 dollars.

I started collecting baseball cards when I was young... (like nursery school- pre-K young)...

I recently started buying more packs. Never got a really valuable card, but I do have Randy Moss and Alex Rodriguez rookie cards, which I hope will be valuable at some point.

You need to check out how many rookie cards have been printed out of them. And of course, keeping them in good condition is always good for their value

I always keep them in good condition...

I have thousands of cards, and I've been trying to organize them in order of the team..

I tried last name, alphabetical order, but that took entirely too long...

True story about this card. In the Winter of '89 I went to Bakersfield to visit my favorite uncle, who actually turned me on to collecting cards. We went in to a shop and I saw the 89 Griffey UD rookie. It was from a new company the store owner told me. Since it was new, I had heard of Griffey, liked his dad, and it was card #1 of the set, I bought it for $3. When I got home from the trip my mother handed me a birthday invitation card to my friends' birthday party. The party was that day. Having no time to go get a gift, and since my friend, Jeremy, also collected cards, I decided to give him the Griffey. Well the rest is history as that card ended up climbing at one time to be worth over $100. Jeremy and I are still riends 20 years later, continuing to stay in contact for better reasons than a baseball card, but neither of us will ever forget it. I now have 20, 1989 Ken Griffey Jr. Upper deck - card #1, but it's the one I gave away that is my most valuable.

Exactly. Last I checked I had a pretty cool Gretzky and a Mike Bossy card that might've been my best. Or maybe just my favorite, I didn't have anything too special.

I have that card and its not worth all that much. I have a Beckett that I checked it in and it was $40. A lot for a baseball card but its not like $40 is anything to get excited over.

My best card was a Frank Thomas 2001 EX Essential Credential that I sold for $400.

I have become more active in collecting over the past year. The other day i actually counted all my cards and well I have over 10,000 Baseball/Football Cards. I figured up i have 17 Baseball Cards that have either auto's or Jersey. For football I have about 133 Auto/Jersey Pieces. Seeing how Adrian Peterson Auto goes for 250$ i have been collecting Sidney Rice and I have two of his Auto's and Two Cards of just normal jersey and I have this other that is very nice Ill put a scan up. But My best Card is probably this one that is auto'd

I used to collect a lot of hockey. I have a couple of RC's of Marian Gorbik, Martin Havlat and some other guy, but idk how much they are worth. I tried selling them at one point to the local sports memorabilia shop...they dont buy hockey :(.

I have some football, but my favorites are my Peyton Manning jersey card, and my Rex Grossman signed card that I got at camp.

I think my favorite type of card though is definantly basketball, because you can go get them signed at the games. I have a Tyson Chandler RC signed, Chris Duhon RC Signed, Ben Gordon RC signed...list goes on. Its so much fun getting those.

Needless to say I have a 5,000 card collection, and currently I only collect Bowman and Bowman Draft Baseball

I easily have 25,000 - 35,000 cards total. My oldest cards are from 1956. I bought a few common '56 Topps cards at a card show a few years ago. They were in great condition and at a good price ($4 a card - and each of them is worth at least $20)

I got a crapload ... mostly worthless at his point. I hustled this rich kid on the golf course and took a Jerry Rice rookie card instead of the $100. He came back to me a week later and bought it back for $150. LOL.

I had high hopes for this card, but I fear it's value has dimished ....

To this day, when I am forced to bat lefty in church and over 30 softball leauges, I stick my chin out like Will and repeat in my head over and over "I'm Will Clark, I'm Will Clark, I'm Will Clark."

One of the coolest sports moments in my life, was listening to the radio broadcast of the '89 NLCS when Will hit the grand-slam against the Cubs.

I am not sure how many cards I have, but I have 2 55 gallon tubs full of boxes of cards plus more laying around. I'm thinkin I need to go to a card shop and just drop them off and say, give me 1200 bucks and they're yours or something like that. I dunno, I have a ton of autographed baseballs and stuff too...I'll keep those my Tom Glavine, Mickey Mantle, John Smoltz, etc...But the cards I no longer have any attraction to. I also have MANY complete sets of cards. Every UD set from 1991 - 1999 I think, along with many others, then I started to buy boxes instead.

I collected pretty heavily for three years from about mid 04 to the middle of last year. I was spending like 60% of my income (which, being a student, wasn't much) and only saving about 20%. That wasn't helping me in my quest to buy an engagement ring so I cut back my spending to about 5% (and found a much better paying job). However, I came away with a few cards I really like and a better idea of what I want to collect when I'm able to spend the money. Here are a few of my favorite cards. The Tulowitzki is a 1/1, the Reggie Brown is pretty sweet and the Downey T206 card is the best condition card of all my T206's. I hope to one day complete the T206 set (minus Wagner). Have not bought a card in about three months though and, all told, have only spent about $120 this year on cards (which is a fraction of what I was spending from 04-07).
