Really want to see Washington's second rounders, Thomas, Davis, and Kelly.

Thomas and Kelly are out with hamstring injuries. Along with Portis, Betts, Jason Taylor, London Fletcher, Anthony Montgomery, Rocky McIntosh, Laron Landry, Carlos Rogers and some others. Fred Davis will play a lot though with Cooley only getting a series. The plan is for Jason Campbell only to play a series or two, then Todd Collins will play the rest of the 1st half. Colt Brennan will start the second half and may go the entire second half if he is doing well, or we will put in Derrick Devine. If Brennan plays the whole second half this week he will likely not play next week as Devine will be 3rd on the depth chart. We do have 5 preseason games so Brennan will be playing a lot.

Brennan is supposed to start the 2nd half, per rotoworld.

Rookie Colt Brennan is scheduled to start the second half of the Redskins' first preseason game.
Brennan had offseason hip surgery, but is 100% now. Though Todd Collins has struggled in camp, he is not in danger of being passed on the depth chart by Brennan.

Just for the record, everyone tried to use that Georgia game to analize his entire college career, and it was definately overblown in the negative aspect, so if people want to get excited over him looking good so be it, he was blasted all off-season for that BCS game so let people praise him for solid play...I think most agreed he needed a few years to develop, if he looks good right now, even if they are backups, then so be it, but regardless of if you are playing vs starters or backups the object is to play well isn't it?

If it was so easy then why is it that Jim Sorgi still manages to suck whenever he's in the game?

I never said it was easy or that Brennan won't succeed. I just find it funny that watching a game throw a couple of passes in the preseason gets people so excited about a player but then they turn around two seconds later and go on a rant about how you can't evaluate players for 3+ years.

He made some impressive throws, I don't see whats the big deal...I was joking in my post talking about him, but its also funny to hear guys make the same excuses...Forever you heard that he was throwing against weak competition and when he looks decent in a pre-season game its "just a pre-season"...I don't think anybody was getting all that excited, Quin Gray made some great throws to and I don't expect him to do much at this point but that doesn't mean he didn't make any good plays noteworth tonight.

Let's say every game is just a coin flip. Play money lines where the payout is 2.0+ and you'll come out on top. Preseason lines are generally weaker than regular season lines because there are a lot more variables. That means a good gambler can get an edge.

I know we've discussed not jumping to conclusions based on pre-season games, but a team would really have be desperate to pick up Lorenzen after he gets cut by the Colts (certainly a matter of when, not if).

I wish Colt was in Chicago right now. I mean, I like our picks as they stand for the most part, but even having any slimmer of hope that was not Sexy Rexy or the Great Neckbeard would have been nice. But no. Anyway, nice to have football back on the box again.

He moves the pocket using his feet... I wouldn't call it panicky. Peyton Manning does the same thing with his feet and it's not panicky as much as it is feeling anticipation.

Ok, seriously, you're going to need to eventually come to grips with the fact that Colt Brennan isn't perfect.

You should know that he played in a shotgun offense and you should therefore know that his technique when dropping back, setting and firing isn't perfect. As such today he got happy feet in the pocket a lot. Though he set and fired for many of his throws against proper defenses he likely wouldn't have performed so well.

In saying that 9/10 and 2 TDs is extremely impressive despite the competition he faced and on both his TDs and on several other throws he threw balls so accurate it makes one think he could thread the end of a piece of cotton through the eye of a needle at a hundred yards.

The incompletion that he threw was a little behind, but I wouldn't call that being an inconsistent passer. That play requires a lot of timing and repetition and it's still very early. However, that said, the ball still hit both hands of the receiver and he should've caught it.

The only thing Colt needs is time and consistency in coaching.

Out of curiosity are people still calling him a system QB?

Colt Brennan did not throw it behind the receiver. He threw it too fast the rest of the world didn't have time to catch up.

I say by our 3rd or 4th preseason game, if Campbell feels comfortable, let Colt get some 1st team reps.

Geo
08-04-2008, 02:05 PM
The Colts place a strong emphasis on 40 time/measurables, but I'm definitely glad they overlooked that factor and drafted Hart.

I've been hoping they'd finally build the rest of the RB core like the Giants do and the Chargers up until this year's pick of Hester of LSU, building it up with late round picks and undrafted free agents. They haven't really done that in the last decade or so, Dom Rhodes was a discovery as an UDFA when Edge suffered his knee injury, but that was 2001 and has been the one find for quality depth.

I think they could use a speed guy in the vein of Darren Sproles, who might double as a return man depending on TJ Rushing's development this year. Hart will provide the tough running, pass protection, and ball security. Adding some speed to him and Addai might help create the most capable trio.

The reason people don't like my Brennan love is because they can't beat my defense of him. ;)

They said he's too small...

They said he's a system QB...

They said he can't operate a pro style offense...

They said his release will lead to too many batted down passes...

They said he's got character flaws that will hurt the team...

They said he's never beaten good competition and the NFL will exploit him.

They said his stats are good because he has good WRs...

They said anything and everything they could think of which would lead to him being practice squad material and out of the league in 3 years... IF that long.

Preseason games suck for two reasons, 1 no one ever gets to see there favorite starters.

But moreover because if anyone even mentions that a player looked good they're shouted down with "OMG ITS PRESEASON"

D-Unit, myself, anyone and everyone who's praising Mike Hart and Colt Brennan realise that this is the pre-season.

We realise that Brennan wasn't throwing at the NFL's best defense, or even a starting defense.

However, based on the projections of many people Colt Brennan shouldn't have even been able to compete with the third stringers he took the field with, let alone be dominant against them.

This game represents not necessarily a reason for critics to be silenced completely, but atleast for their volume to be turned down.

Brennan showed that he has the physical tools to be good and the brains to at least be competitive with a good display.

Any argument about him not being that good because he beat the stuffing out of third stringers is a little silly, because at the end of the day if a player beats his opponent and really beats them, he's done his job.

More than that even Peyton Manning started somewhere, what this shows is that Brennan is beginning his career and has got over the first hurdle, though small it may be. Fans of his are happy to see it, as we should be.

So please, enough with the waste of posting "its preseason it doesn't mean anything"

Zorn said that on Saturday Colt is going to be the 2nd string QB. He will get to play against a few 1st and 2nd string people now

We're a little short on DE atm so he could be seeing a good amount of 1st string pressure, and probably a lot of Leodis, who hopefully won't be making things any easier. Can't wait.

I think its going to be a interesting game, its just too bad Thomas and Kelly are still hurt

Saturday...Anthony Waters is coming.

He's going to get shaken out of his cleats by Felix "the Cat" Jones. :D

Wide receiver Robert Meachem for the Saints, '07 1st round pick and talent at wide receiver, he's bound to explode and maybe it starts to happen this year if not next. Also, rookie Tim Hightower for the Cardinals could be the primary back-up to Edge in the wake of Marcel Shipp's release. Will also be interesting to see if Matt Leinart looks more comfortable in Wisenhunt's offense any.

Adrian Arrington and DeMario Presley

Demario is out for the year...

but, yeah the entire Saints draft class is made up of some of the more popular names.

Ellis, Porter, Pressley, Nicks, Mehlhaff, and Arrington.

I was going to watch the Jets but, Woodhead is on IR apparently. I really havent been focusing on other camps like I used to.

I can't speak for the Cardinals, but I would definitely watch out for Carl Nicks (who seems to be making a push for starting LG) and Adrian Arrington.

I still think Calhoun is going to end up winning the job and rush for 1,000 yards this season. Call me crazy, but Bell isn't good and Smith is an injury timebomb after last year's workload. Meanwhile Calhoun is finally healthy.

Kellen Clemens hasn't had that much time to throw since he was in Oregon.

Just read this about Stewart:

. He is a strong power back who is not afraid to run right through the opposition, and at 5-foot-10 and 235 pounds with a calf muscle girth three times that of the average human, why not run through people head-onHe's still a game time decision though kiddie gloves till week 1 it seems.

Boller the baller, I hope he lights it up Brees style then has to get traded.
