I wasn't sure about the ages of the chinese gymnasts, but I was giving the judges the benefit of the doubt regarding scoring until I saw Fei Cheng of China win the bronze in the women's horse vault when she landed on her knees.
Ladies and gentlemen, the fix is in.
Exactly...
I want to see the judges explanation for that. I mean she fell!

U do know its not all about the landing...
But to fall on the landing means
1) someone underrotated (which should drop the points)
2) she landed with a KNEE out of bounds (deduction + drop in execution)
i don't understand. her vault wasn't the most brilliant thing ever. and the landing is a large part of execution.

All you need to do is look at the little Chinese gymnast to see that there is no way in hell these girls are 16 years old. Shawn Johnson while small and very young looking is not even close to what these Chinese girls look like. 16 is still a very young age, so of course she'll look young. But the Chinese girls look like they are in Junior High and with the reports coming out about how they have lied about ages it's just icing on top of the cake.

Anyway, the olympics haven't been great for Italy so far. Some medals from fencing (as usually) but a lot of upsets especially in team sports: soccer out in the quarter finals, basket men team didn't even qualified (and I don't even know if we have a women team!), volley women out, water polo men and women out.
USA got a good chance to win the majority of team sports events: basketabll both women and men, water polo, softball, soccer women, volley men and women (I don't see them beating Cuba but they can win the bronze medal).

The problem is that here in Italy it's soccer soccer soccer. The other sports have ridicolous coverage and so young guys tend to play only soccer. A lot of athletes have to work part-time because they don't get enough money even if they are very succesful. For example, Valentina Vezzali won 3 gold medals but she's way poorer than the less payed player in Serie A (the most important soccer league in the country).

See this is the part of the 'pro-american gymnastics' that I struggle to find credible. Everybody here is quick to bash the officials for decisions they clearly think are wrong despite the fact that nobody actually know exactly what comprises a final score nor is anybody capable of doing so at an Olympic level. I have watched a lot of the gymnastics during these games and listening to Australian commentators (Who are biased to no country partly due to our uber suckage at the sport) have not questioned any of the results being given. They have pretty much agreed with all the decisions which have been made throughout the games and constantly acknowledge when mistakes are made, even minor mistakes, when they occur.
Maybe their is bias. I'm not an Olympic official and I certainly don't know how to calculate the score of a gymnastic routine. However, I'm pretty sure that nobody else on this forum is also capable of calculating the score either making any complaints relatively futile.
Maybe because the Aussies don't know jack **** about gymnastics and that's why they're not questioning the judging...The Italians, who are relatively anti-American btw, has had commentators question the judging...

Hmm.. as far as I know, it's a matter of weight and elasticity. A younger girl is more flexible and it's easier for her to do the majority of the exercises. This is the reason why you won't find many female gymnasts who are older than 22.

b. We're not gymnastics experts (True, but neither are you, and it doesn't change the validity of our arguments based on expert's opinions)

well, i don't know the first thing about flexibility (can't even scratch my dick without pulling a muscle) but, i'm guessing the youth is a benefit as far as flexibility is concerned. plus, some girls do peak athletically in the early teens.

regarding the judges... on the broadcast last night the announcers made an interesting point... of the 6 judges on the panel, 4 of them were from countries that had NEVER had a medalist in ANY gymnastic event.
they mentioned that perhaps these judges just don't know what great gymnastics is supposed to look like because they're inexperienced... certainly a possibility.
the Australian judge in the uneven bars last night was just completely off however. He rated He Kexin a 9.3 for execution, and Nastia a 9.0. The biggest difference any of the other judges had between the two was a 9.0 for Kexin and an 8.9 for Nastia. So somehow he came up with at least 2 tenths more deductions than anyone else... that's huge in gymnastics.

Damn Aussie's. :D
I realize that judging mistakes will occur, especially in gymnastics. But some of the scores were just horribly off, almost blatant.
A girl not only does not stick her landing on the vault, she falls down on her knees and still finishes ahead of Sacramone? Granted the start value was higher but there are also deductions that occur from form break, position on vault (if your back is arched they deduct you), etc...There has been only one perfect score in an event that I know of, and even the best of performances get knocked down for little things and you're telling me a girl who can't even land on her feet after her vault gets a medal? GMAFB.
I'd be saying the same thing if it happened to another competitor that wasn't from the United States. The judging in the gymnastics competetion was down right disgraceful.

You're not insane enough to suggest that because someone doesn't have "one from their country" they can't assess...
Last I checked there's a lot of people on these boards who live outside the US but know a damn sight lot more about football than a lot of Americans.
They don't know what a good gymnast looks like. Sounds like moronic announcers trying to make excuses for their gymnasts not winning gold.

The first sentence makes no sense.
Secondly there is 5 specific element groups in the uneven bars where there can be problems. All of these problems are subject to interpretation. Just because someone disagrees doesn't make them wrong.
Gymnastics isn't about right and wrong, its about varying degrees, so he judged one a little harsher than the other, there's no reason someone would make up scores.
Do you realise how stupid your argument is? An American announcer complains that the judges that aren't giving Americans gold medals because they don't have a medalist in the olympics for gymnastics and at one stage there was a difference between what one judge scored and another.
OMG CONSPIRACY EVERYONE HATES US AND THE JUDGES ON THE PANEL DON'T KNOW ANYTHIGN EOME GOME OMG thank god for the announcer who couldn't get a job on the olympic judging panel if they tried was able to point this out and open my eyes.

There's 5 points in the routine that can be marked down, failure to stick a landing depending on its degree is only worth .1, .3 or .5 point deduction. So yes, you can fail to stick a landing and still beat someone who does.

Either is acceptable. Smileys are not.
OMG CONSPIRACY EVERYONE HATES US AND THE JUDGES ON THE PANEL DON'T KNOW ANYTHIGN EOME GOME OMG thank god for the announcer who couldn't get a job on the olympic judging panel if they tried was able to point this out and open my eyes.
how many times does this have to be mentioned before it gets through to you people.
It's not just the Americans who have noticed these judging inconsistencies. As Modano has stated earlier... the Italian announcers have also noted inconsistencies in the judging, i'm sure there have been others as well.
This argument about the announcers being bias is just ridiculous. You didn't hear a word from them when the Romanian gymnast surpasses both Johnson and Liuken in the floor routine. She had a better routine, she got the medal, they had no problem with it.
so please... just get over yourself, this whole matter has nothing to do with you. If you don't think there's anything wrong with the judging, then fine, just go somewhere else and let us arrogant, whining Americans complain about something that won't be changed, and won't even be acknowledged.

I think you're hating here too much.
I like to portend myself as being unbiased. Especially with my drastic media hate/hype. I root for italy more than america (generally)... The problem is is you are so friggan biased, everything you say, one relates to something you know, even if it's not anything you know about. You like to move situations to something you do know, even if they're NOT very relevant to make yourself sound more relavent. Annoying.

I realize that, but there are also form break deductions as well while the vaulter is in the air. Legs coming apart, legs bent, hand placement...And even before they vault, arched back, hand placement on vault, etc...Point being we aren't the only ones who are saying the judges suck.
And not only did the Chinese girl not stick it, she fell to the ground.

Maybe because the Aussies don't know jack **** about gymnastics and that's why they're not questioning the judging...The Italians, who are relatively anti-American btw, has had commentators question the judging...
Thanks for that completely stupid and childish response. For your information one of the judges yesterday was from Australia so maybe, I mean you definitely, don't know as much as you think you do.
Yes, I agree that italians are relatively anti-American even if it's not the case of Yuri Chechi (who is the announcer). But anyway he was one of the best gymnast of the last decade so I do trust his judgment.
I don't want to offend the aussies (considering also that Australia is the home of Stephanie Rice :P ) but I don't remember a good australian gymnast, so maybe the australian announcers are not so competent..
Australia have never been amazing at gymnastics but we did compete in Beijing with our girls all around team finishing their highest place ever. The commentator was an ex-gymnast and clearly knew every single move and mistake that was made.

Something I found very funny:
Guard Jose Manuel Calderon, a member of the Spanish Olympic squad and the NBA's Toronto Raptors, has said the picture was never intended to have a racist tone.
"We thought it was appropriate, and the idea was conceived as a friendly gesture; it was never offensive," Calderon said. Bolt is not human. I never thought Michael Johnson's record would be broken especially this soon. Scary thing is Bolt hasn't even run a complete race in his career yet. That was a crazy dance. Martina finished second but was disqualified for running out of his lane, then Spearmon who finished third was disqualified too for running out of his lane, so Shawn Crawford was bumped to silver, and Walter Dix who finished 5th was bumped to Bronze. It was into a head wind believe it or not. Crazy. One of the greatest sports accomplishments ever. Setting the world records with ease at the 100 and 200 is something almost nothing else can match to. These records are hard to beat they aren't like Swimming in which almost every single race has a new world record. That is one thing that bothered me about swimming, how was it that 4/5ths of the events had new world records. That was crazy.

Yeah I found it outrageous how there were 25 world records and 65 olympic records set along the way in swimming. That is rediculous. What Bolt did though is incredible. First ever to set both World records at the olympics in the arguably two most competitive and distinct races. A healthy Tyson *** could challenge Bolt in both the 100 and 200 but it would take Bolt easing up too early for *** to beat him.

Argentina poses a real threat especially if we shoot free throws and three pointers like that. We most likely will win by 20 but if they force us to shoot outside and Manu is on there is always a possibility. A lot though is Dependant on the health of Nocioni, he has an uncanny ability of pissing off players and he will be on full throttle trying his best to get Kobe, LeBron, and Melo to swing. He is probably the best NBA player in terms of who players hate the most. Delfino has been playing lights out and Scola and Oberto are tough inside. Scola went for 37 the other game. Plus vets like Prignoni and others this is probably their toughest challenge, I am missing Walter out there though.

Well China does cheat, their girls gymnasts are younger than 16, as has been reported in the NY Times. The judging in the gymnastics seemed to favor the Chinese a lot, although they did deserve most of the high scores they got.
China is a powerhouse now, especially in athletics but in some areas in these games I will say that they were favorably scored and they also use girls younger than they are supposed to in gymnastics.

The scary thing about Bolt is that it won't be until after the Olympics when he gets a new running coach and learns how to start and run the turns. Still as a raw runner he is the fastest ever. There is plenty of room though for him to get complacent, when you dominate the field what will his motivation be since he has the world record and the gold medals. Even Tyson G ay who I have called one of the most gifted runners ever on his best day could do no better than 19.5. Bolt can run sub 19.2 with some tweaks and experience. I do think however a healthy Tyson G ay can run a 9.7 100 on his best day, so if Bolt ever has a bad start G ay is capable of taking it from him, but right now there isn't another human being on the earth with his speed.

USA had our 211.5 wrestler get hospitalized for kidney failure he had a legit shot at a gold medal, and we had a boxer pass out who had medal potential also. It was probably because of weight cutting, America especially in wrestling emphasises(sp) weight cutting while Russia(the most dominate place of wrestling, their 3rd stringers would medal) doesnt weight cut. It is interesting, I dont think cutting 10-15 pounds is that bad, but the wrestler tried to cut to 211.5 from 240. That is dangerous unless you know you have the fat and you diet properly and lose the last 5-8 pounds by water, that sounds like a lot but he could probably lose 5 pounds of water during a practice then sit in a sauna for half an hour and he is set.

IF Nocioni was fully healthy and Ginobili didn't get hurt this would have been a tight game the way US played. Their offensive set is still give it to LeBron, Kobe, or Melo and watch them go one on one even if the defense all collapses on them and the perimeter is wide open but they try to go one on 4.
If is the worst word in sports. It didn't happen, so there's no point in dealing with the what would have happened if...part of things.

I hate Carmelo so much. He's a ball hog that doesn't do anything to create for his teammates.
Spain is a bit of a trap game though. Already beat the **** out of them, and that's dangerous grounds for an upset.

No they aren't. With Calderon hobbled, they have even less of a chance then they had before (which was zero), so it's basically in the negatives now. And Melo was the best player for the team in 2006 and 2007, and he's still more useful to the team than Carlos Boozer or Tayshaun Prince.

My point though is that if they play the way they played today against Argentina against Spain, then it's over.

I am also so happy Jeremy Warner got his ass blazed. He is such a little punk, so cocky and he's talking about beating MJ's record, try winning the gold first. He was such a little princess after the race, I mean US freaking swept it and he's pissed because a fellow teammate won gold. Also when he realize Merritt was crushing him he gave up on the final 15 meters and didn't even care that he almost lost even the silver medal. Here a guy like Neville is throwing his body to get a bronze medal, while Wariner is being a girl because he won silver, and even almost let it go. I knew Merritt was going to win as I called even before Merritt's US trials win.

He shouldn't get a spot on the relay team for the final because it's obvious that all he cares about is his own agenda and not the team's agenda. We would still kill without him anyways with Merritt, Neville, Angelo Taylor, and Kerron Clement.

Mens+Womens 4x400 meter relays are the only track events left, Lagat the bust got 9th in the 5,000. But we are guaranteed at least silver in Mens and Womens indoor volleyball, Mens and Womens Basketball and I don't know what else, oh an mens water polo. At least we already tied last Olympics medal count except not in the golds.

Just a pathetic defensive effort by both teams.
btw Rudy Fernandez is going to be a real solid NBA player, I thought that before the olympics started. The Blazers are so loaded with Roy, Oden, Aldridge, Rudy, Jerryd Bayless...
And for all the hate Tayshaun Prince has gotten here I don't think he's been bad at all during the olympics.

Well Boozer doesn't even play so I don't count him, and at least Melo gives you some offense. Kidd doesn't give you offense or defense, just turnovers and a body that the defense doesn't need to guard.
Spain riding their wave right now.... Kobe shouldn't be playing right now. He's playing terribly. Get Wade, Bosh, and Paul the ball.
And then Kobe makes an absolutely impossible shot.
Kobe sacking up BIG time in crunch time.
This is a great game.

He wasn't playing well, but he's the best player in the world. I want the ball in his hands in crunch time, whether he's playing well or not.

Yes, he definitely turned it around. But he was taking random threes, refusing to pass, and playing shoddy defense.
Now he's just an animal.

I know they will be inviting him back next go round but Carmelo shouldn't be on the next olympic team. Wayy too many players who are already bring more than him like Iguodala, Josh Smith, etc. Melo's career IMO will fade he will obviously average 25+ every year but on terrible shooting percentages. Antoine Walker v2.

Except that Walker never averaged more than 23.4 points a game and never shot above 43.5 percent, while Melo has averaged 24.4 points for his career so far on a very solid 46.2 percent based on how many shots he takes. I know Melo struggled in these olympics but there's no way Smith or Iggy belong on the team over him and there's no way he's Walker Version 2.
