View Full Version : They Call it Jurassic.

Ok, as you may or may not know the best RT in the Bengals' history has been relegated to backup duties. The reason for this is because of the emergence and the high pay given to Stacey Andrews. At the same time, we have had problems with our center ever since Richie Braham retired. Recently the Bengals decided to try out the "Jurassic" Line and this involves moving our starting RG Bobbie Williams inside to play Center, Stacey Andrews to RG, and having Willie start at RT. Now, up until a few days ago this was seen as an emergency situation if our starting Center Eric Guychick went down but a few days ago they had the first team line look like this in practice. This is a huge deal because not only does it get our best five lineman on the field at the same time but it also allows for Willie to have his rightful place back.

If they end up using this group our lineup would look like this:
RT- Willie Anderson, 6'5" 340lbs.
RG- Stacey Andrews, 6'7" 345lbs.
C- Bobbie Williams, 6'4" 345lbs.
LG- Andrew Whitworth, 6'7" 340lbs.
LT- Levi Jones, 6'5" 310lbs.

That is almost 1700lbs(1680 to be exact) of Man right there. The average size of this line is 6'5" 330lbs. Not only are they our five best, they are probably the biggest line EVER.

Just thought I'd let y'all know. It's got me excited.

I am excited, but what is the average weight of an offense line in the NFL? I can only assume around 300 for each guy, so 1500?

The Bills had the biggest O-line in the league last year. Their listed weights total up to 1660, pretty close. Over 700 between our starting tackles.

It's pretty insane. I don't know if that really is the biggest line ever(Bengals) but it is huge. Not only the weight but they are all pretty fricken tall as well.

I'd be surprised if there were many taller than ours as a unit. Shortest one is 6'4" and we have two 6'7" lineman.

Craziest part is, Andrew Whitworth(345lbs) is like 8-10 percent body fat or something like that.

Whitworth's got nothin' on Langston Walker who is 6'8", 366 lbs. He's only 4% fat ;)

I remember reading an article in the Tennessean when I was a high schooler about some O-Lineman for some high school in Tennessee being like 6'10 when he was a freshman. He supposedly wanted to be a Vol but I never heard anything about him after that.

IDK of any Ferrells that have been on the Bills.

Q for Bengals fans: Ghiaciuc is the weakest link of the offensive line, no? Assuming Levi Jones is healthy and Anderson is too or Andrews is playing RT.

you worded that funny, but if your question is who is playing LT if Levi has RT covered, then its Andrews for now.

However, this new line up that MIB posted would have Andrews @ RG, and have Anderson at RT. The only reason I assume they don't do this line up, is because we're unsure if Anderson can play a full season at his age.

Ghiaciuc is without a doubt our weakest link. I'd call him average, maybe even slightly below average. Bobbie Williams is above average while the rest are very good quality.

If Ghiaciuc is at Center, the way the depth chart and workouts have gone it's Levi at LT, Andrews at RT and Bobbie Williams at RG. Willie being on the bench.

In the event of ANY injury, Willie Anderson would move to RT then the rest of the line would get shifted. Whitworth and Andrews can both play guard and tackle.

Panthers line is pretty big this year too

Jordan Gross LT 6"4 305 pounds
Travelle Wharton LG 6"4 312 pounds
Ryan Kalil C 6"2 296 pounds
Keydrick Vincent RG 6"5 325 pounds
Geoff Otah RT 6"6 330 pounds

1568 pounds in total after seeing what the scout team defense had done to them on run plays I'd hate to be in the shoes of Cincinnati's backup defensive tackles.

It'll be interesting to see though how a line of that size goes up against some of the more nippy defensive lines and 34 defenses the Bengals will face.

LT- Andre Smith Alabama 6'5" 340+ lbs.
LG- Herman Johnson LSU 6'7" 360+ lbs.
C- Daniel Sanders Colorado 6'3" 320+ lbs.
RG- Chris DeGeare Wake Forest 6'4" 360+ lbs.

On Oakland, sure. He was a very good RT last year, might've been my favorite guy on our line. It is possible to get better, especially coming from a situation like the one he was in before coming here.

Jets might have the lightest line with the biggest being 335.

LT: D'Brickashaw Ferguson - 6'6'' 312 lbs (more like 290 tho so we'll say an even 300)
LG: Alan Faneca - 6'5'' 307
C: Nick Mangold - 6'4'' 300
RG: Brandon Moore - 6'3'' 295
RT: Damian Woody - 6'3'' 335

Combined 1,537 lbs. Average height and weight: 6'4'' 307.4 lbs. Small but all of them (minus Woody) and very athletic and quick. And Woody provides size on the right side.

Colts line..

LT Tony Ugoh - 6'5 301
LG Ryan Lilja - 6'2 299
C Jeff Saturday - 6'2 295
RG Mike Pollak - 6'3 301
RT Ryan Diem - 6-6 320

Our line weighs 1516 lbs, if you sub in Charlie Johnson for Pollak it goes up to 1520.

Atlanta's O-Line is finally making the transition from lightest in the league to a pretty good size.

LT - Sam Baker 6'5" 312
LG - Justin Blalock 6'4" 330
OC - Todd McClure 6'1" 300
RG - Harvey Dahl 6'5" 310
RT - Tyson Clabo 6'6" 330

i prefer big olines, but don't underestimate small ones either.

it really all depends on the run blocking scheme you run. like the Giants oline for example is all about pulling guards, we overload one side of the field with olinemen and run that way, with a TE sealing the outside. Thats why OGs and a good blocking TE are vital to our run game.

for us a good size is 310 to 320 across the board. strong enough to lay the smack down, athletic enough to move in space.

Other olines are more traditional, and just move guys out of the way. Dallas being a good example of that. that requires a bigger stronger oline.

ZBS requires smaller guys. Not 320ish, but more like 300 to 310. They all have their pros and cons. its a matter of preference.

LT: David Diehl 6'5 319
LG: Rich Seubert 6'3 310
C: Shaun O'hara 6'3 303
RG: Chris Snee 6'3 317
RT: Kareem McKenzie 6'6 329

A combined 1578 pounds, and an average height of 6'4. The Giants have an average size O-line, and I thought Seubert weighed more guess not.

Pass protection isn't the biggest issue but they were not very good last year even though they broke the franchise record for sacks allowed. The run game has been suffering from a weak link at C and health at RB.
