This is incredibly sad but also, incredibly bad for the NFL. They need the union at the negotiating table.

that is crazy..but, things like that happen more than you'd think. people refuse to go to a doctor until the symptoms are unignorable. and they go in just in time to hear that it's far too late.

BTW, who takes the reigns of the players union now?

Pancreatic cancer was apparently caught last week, which was far too late for him. RIP Gene Upshaw.
Not only was he an outstanding player, but he was one of the people who shaped the game to the way it is now. Just like Vikes99ej said, now what for the union?

08-21-2008, 12:54 PM
Well that sucks,

Now the players have to elect someone else to represent them, hopefully the new guy can get contracts done so no strike happens.

Pancreatic Cancer is one of the worst ones if I remember correctly. It progresses real quick. Lung Cancer is also real bad. Most people only live for 6 months after they are diagnosed. RIP Mr. Upshaw

They probably won't get pushed around as much by the owners and commisioner? It is kind of a terrible thing to say after a great football player passed away, but many considered him to be a push over as the head of the players union.

Wow... it seems as if everything you say is related to a Buffalo Bill or former Bill...

But it wouldn't be a bad choice though... I think he was good in the NFL PA..

Troy was one of the Eagles best CBs for a very long time, long before he went to the Bills. He went to 5 straight pro-bowls for the Eagles. Great player, a favorite of mine. He was part of the Eagles trio of CBs Troy Vincent, Bobby Taylor, and Al Harris.

he ismuch more well known for his time with the Eagles though, his stint with the Bills was like what Jason Taylor in DC, Farve in NY, and Isaac Bruce in SF is going to be like, just a little blip on the screen of their career.

RIP Mr. Upshaw. Regardless of what people think of him personally, the NFL lost a key member in building it into what it is today.

On an aside, I think Troy Vincent would be an excellent choice to succeed him.

Um...Vincent was the president of the NFLPA for the past four years, so it's not like what he said was that outlandish...

I love Troy Vincent.

He's the one who blocked the game winning field goal that set up Sean Taylors return against Dallas two years ago.
