Like, I know there are bands that 'deserve' to be on there more than some of them, but I refuse to put bands on there that I don't really like all that much.

1) Beach Boys - Greatest Rock Band of All Time. Better than the best that The Beatles did (created pop music) and Pink Floyd and built the greatest monument of rock music. Pet Sounds. Now go take your Beatle buckets and quit whining.
2) The Clash - The most influential band of the past 30 years. Revolutized rock. Turned it into a movement. The stones were one thing, the Clash was a whole separate beast.
3) Kraftwerk - Just because you've never heard of them, doesn't mean you've not heard their influences. They are by far the greatest composers of music, avant garde, minimalist, absolute innovation in electronic music. Depeche Mode? Influenced. Aphex Twin? Influenced. Coldplay? Influenced. Radiohead? Owe their lives to them. Krauts for the win.
4) The Smiths - Ultimate in deliverance. The Wu Tang of rock. Some of the greatest musicians of all time conspired and innovated the way lyrics became poetry and twinkly guitar into the most heartbreaking music ever. Music can make you feel things, but when you're the smiths, they want to tug every memory you had and shake the foundations of who you are.
5) Sonic Youth - Sonic Youth was to rock music what Phil Glass was to composed music, what mondrian was to art. Paint on the wall. Noise. Aggressive youth. Controversial Poignent, and so utterly delcious.
6) Hoover
7) Drives like Jehu
8) Indian Summer
9) Christie Front Drive

tell me how music has changed since the beatles. sure guys have mastered the guitar far better than anyone could imagine but at its heart, music is still the same. you still have a lead singer, guitarist, and a rhythym section. beatles have shaped and will continue to shape rock n roll until someone does something completely out of the box. i guess an accordion couldn't hurt.

You act like the Beatles were ahead of there time or something, Chuck Berry was doing rock way before and was actually there main influenceim not arguing that the beatles were ahead of their time. i am arguing that rock music has changed very little if at all since their emergence on the scene. yes they were influenced by others (southern blues musicians mainly) but so was almost every uk band of that era. im just saying that the basis for rock music had not changed.

Thats what I love about the White album, its all over the map. I mark out to Rocky Raccoon.
The White album has some of the greatest songs ever...
You start off in Back in the USSR, which is basically a song the Beatles made to mimic the Beach Boys. On the same side you have Ob la di, an then While My Guitar Gently Weeps...yah you know Eric Clapton is playing guitar on that song...and he freakin rocks.
Side 2 gives you Blackbird, Piggies, Why dont we do it in the road, and freakin Rocky Racoon...which is maybe my fav song ever.
Side 3 is prolly the worst side...but you get Helter Skelter...not too shabby...you also have the birthday song.
Side 4 gives you Revolution...but it also gives you the bad Revoultion...its like the only song that radio stations wont play...hahah
But I gotta say my fav album is Sgt. Peppers. I know it is the one everyone says...But it really is a good album. The entire first side is insane. The second side isnt that bad...and it ends in A Day in the Life.
They are probably the only band I have ever been able to say that I like all their albums...I normally love metal....but there arent to many metal bands out there that I can say I love all their albums. Actually I dont think there is. I cant say I like all the Pink Floyd Albums, or led Zeppelin albums either. But when your worst album is "With the Beatles" (and that was only released in the UK) then you are doing something right.

That right there is the fallacy... They feel obligated to love the beatles because their parents smoked the beatles ****, and everything was 'universally attributed' to the greatest media hype of all time.

not gonna argue with it being a fallacy. but, a lot my bands do list the beatles as an influence..but, i think that just automatically comes out of a musician's mouth when asked about their inspiration...much like professional athletes give all the credit to god. huh. guess they were really bigger than jesus.

and you dont have to make any sort of argument!!!! Thats what makes it the best!
Pet sounds is a good album. But every Album post "Help!" was better than Pet Sounds.
Pet Sounds was a very influential album as well, it even influenced the Beatles on some of their albums. To even show the greatness of Pet Sounds, George Martin even said that the Beatles Made Sgt Peppers to try to rival Pet Sounds...I think the succeeded in that. But keep this in mind as well. Brian Wilson created Pet Sounds to rival Rubber Soul.

pretty much. everyone who says the beatles are so great, have been listening to the beatles since age 0. it becomes part of a musical subconsciousness that i believe cannot be stopped, i started listening to the beatles after the age of 21, after i heard the stones, after i heard the beach boys, after i heard the clash, after i heard belle and sebastian, and radiohead, led zepplin, rush, the who... and i can't honestly say i've ever once felt that the beatles were head and shoulders above anyone...
it's not necessarly that it makes you lame (as you quickly follow the beatles with two actually good bands), but, the greater musical listening sphere live in that mindset and wouldn't be able to believe otherwise.

not true. i'm trying to merely break the idea that to say the beatles AREN'T the 'greatest band ever' is an OK statement. Every time i say the beatles aren't the greatest band ever. In fact, i don't like them, gets me plenty of hate.
So i've become proactive and try to tell everyone, they're not the greatest band ever... it's easier that way.

Hard Days Night

Norwegian Wood

and among countless other songs and countless songs that are part of the Beatles Solo careers.
