Fred Smoot cut by Vikings today, question, possible Redskin? Question is not if you want him but if you think skins might sign him, my thought's high chance.

I think Smoot will fly under fa radar and will likely sign back with the skins... its a perfect fit he loved it here in washington just decided to take more money... BRING HIM BACK PLEASE that would be a great signing

03-01-2007, 06:43 PM
yeah, i actually liked smoot and wouldnt mind having him back.

03-01-2007, 06:58 PM
I dont see why the skins wouldnt try and sign smoot back

03-01-2007, 06:59 PM
Smoot played very well in Greg Williams system. Bring him back, please!

Yes, a thousand times yes :-) hope both parties come to a deal and bring him back. He had a great time here ;-)

An entry from a supposedly respected poster on a message board owned by the Washington Redskins indicates that cornerback Fred Smoot has signed with the team, after a two-year detour to Minnesota.

The story has been up for a couple of hours, but we have found no official confirmation of it.

Because of that, we weren't going to post it yet. But we've gotten over 100 e-mails from 'Skins fans who swear that it's legit, so we figured the only way we would shut them up was to use it.

If you are going to copy/paste from a source, in this case Pro Football Talk, be sure to include a link or at least name the reference.

Smoot at the Wizards game tonight and in heavy negotiations. Wizards seemed to do the trick to get Randle El and Archuleta to sign, so I think Snyder owes Arenas some dough.

it was just reported we signed him via the nfl section. i'll get link or you can go check that section out.

Thank you for taking him off of our hands. He was a complete mess.

i know smoot really didnt play good at all in minnesota but i feel like he was heavily distracted off-field and that clearly hurt his performance. his last yeat here he was starting to shine as a cover corner which is why we couldnt resign him. hopefully given a 2nd chance, hell come back to washington a place he is fimiliar with and loved, and be refreshed and play like he knows he can. no matter what vikes fans say he is an improvement to our depleted secondary.

03-03-2007, 08:00 PM
Yee ha ;-) ... well, perhaps the vikes were a bit off during that time, no disrespect. It's good to bring him home :-)

As long as it isn't a huge contract I'm happy, only details released so far is that he will get a 2 million signing bonus, also if we sign Travis Fisher you can consider Springs gone. Also Leonard Davis might sign with us, but his contract might be massive so I'm scared.

03-03-2007, 08:09 PM
yea i was excited when i saw that we were going after davis because that would make our line even better than when we had dockery until i saw it was down to us and the cowboys for him, knowing snyder he will not let anyone outpay him especially jerry jones!

Oh My Gosh, Someone Shoot Me. Just Saw On Espn 5 Years 25 Million!!!! Please Someone Shoot Me.

Another thing to factor in on Smoots steady decline since he left was the implementation of the cover 2 scheme in Minnesota. Smoot isn't exactly a cover 2 corner.

i already knew that i was talking about a link where it says 5 for 25 mil

03-03-2007, 09:37 PM
No link but they said it on ESPN News, so hopefully it was just a mistake and they were thinking of London Fletcher's contract.

03-03-2007, 09:43 PM
most likely, they botch a lot on ESPNews

Cornerback Fred Smoot really didn't want to leave the Redskins. Now, he feels as though he's come back home.

Smoot signed a five-year deal worth $25 million Saturday with the Redskins to return after spending three turbulent seasons with the Minnesota Vikings.

I cant believe this, just when I thought the Redskins were gonna learn something about overpaying FA's.....o well.

03-05-2007, 07:27 PM
So how is the WAS secondary going to look now?

03-06-2007, 01:56 AM
Fred Smoot returned to the Redskins, signing a 5-year contract for $25 million, but that's just Monopoly money. What really matters is that Smoot got a $2 million signing bonus, far less than the outrageous $13 million bonus the Minnesota Vikings used to lure Smoot to Minneapolis two years ago. A $2 million bonus spread over a 5-year contract matters because it means the Redskins can plausibly threaten to cut Smoot at almost any time. That's important because Smoot has a history of playing hard when he has to, and not playing hard when does not.

GREAT NEWSSSS We didn't overpay for sh!t!!!

Yeah, I figured we couldn't be that stupid this time around. Good moves by our FO this offseason.
