Chrome will run Web applications "much better," they wrote, with tabs kept in an isolated "sandbox," which will prevent "one tab from crashing into another and provide improved protection from rogue sites." Better speed and responsiveness are also part of Chrome, which features "a more powerful JavaScript engine, V8, to power the next generation of Web applications that aren't even possible in today's browsers."

Components from Apple's WebKit and Mozilla's Firefox are part of the open-source Chrome, they said.

Updated information about the browser and its availability Tuesday will be provided at the company blog, they said.

I'll probably give it a look. If it's on par with Firefox that will be interesting.

building a browser is an insane idea. but. i bet google could.

I have it, just installed it. So far I've noticed two things:

1. it's very very fast
2. I CAN'T SCROLL UP

given google's god awful privacy record, i have utterly no interest in using yet another browser that is unlikely to be much (if any) better than firefox/opera.

Never considered this. Thanks njx.

I tried it and didnt really like it, It was fast but reminded me of Internet Explorer but with a hint of Mozilla. So right now i am using Opera for the first time and I like the Speed Dial thing and the widgets but I do like having a spell check.

I'm still using Internet Explorer. Someone give me a reason to make the switch to something else. A browser is a browser to me . . . haha

I'm using it right now. It's very smooth, very quick, and decent interface so far. It like firefox has spell checker also. And the incognito mode is cool.

I have IE... It takes about 1 second at most for stuff to load, crashes?? you mean the Internet freezeing? Barley happens and plug ins and add-ons umm what?

IE works just fine for me, never understood all the hate.

People don't start to hate on IE until they travel outside the box...then they see the great things. Back in the day it was tabs...then IE upgraded...but now the only thing that is a huge difference for me is add-ons...such as in my task bar i have my weather and media player....small things but convient. Being able to save youtube movies is another great add-on....side by side is another great one.

I have tons of add-ons too, just makes for a better experience while surfing the web which is a lot of time for me. Also there's themes to make change up the look, like different color schemes and stuff. I used to use IE too and didn't see the point in changing and IE started crashing so much and I would get the error report message all the time so I switched to FF and ever since then I've loved it.

it's not just that...
part of what's important, and what makes browsers, browsers, is the ability to reproduce code correctly and efficiently.

that being said. Firefox is the 'best' at reproducing code (of visual elements), opera rides above the average in speed, efficiency, and memory footprint (which is hellaciously important for the average consumer)... and then this google product took a lot of opera's ideas and called it their own.

It's simple. If you know how to read, quick comparison for the technically inept.

You have four 2.8L car engines.

One gets 20% more mpg, one gets 20% more horsepower than the other, one weighs 10% less than others, and one is cheaper than everyone else.

They may look the same on the outside (browsers), one gets more efficient usage of it's size (opera),one is more powerful and robust (Firefox), one is more 'compact' (Chrome), and the cheap easy-to-maintain one (IE)...

When the difference between powerful and robust to compact is almost nothing on this scale, I will side with the former.

alright you will need one or two more programs, if you are using firefox to download a video in the bottom right hand corner in the browser is a little window thing with a yellow arrow, click that and it will download the video to where you want.

Next in order to watch it anywhere you will need a program called "FLV to AVI MPEG WMV 3GP MP4 IPOD converter. Your Youtube videos come in FLV format so you need to convert it, after you convert to what ever format you like you should be able to play it, i usually go AVI or MP4 and use VLC player.

Listen college grad which one should I use? :)

depends on your browsing habits.

if you just do tons of youtubing and putsing around... use chrome or opera. they're small, they run fast, they work well and don't crash often.
if you tend to use 'applications' online (like, say, for work..., programs that run java, coldfusion, flash, ), firefox is normally the best..
if you use like, windows terminal server, or other crappy windows projects (see: any .NET site, any site that has asp, visual basic, or C#, and silverlight) use IE... some sites don't work on anything but IE (which is ridiculous and unprofessional, but that's microsoft clients)
if you use mac... well. safari is a decent choice. it's middle of the pack as far as browsers go imo.

... you're probably completely unaware that there is any software you can use that isn't made by apple and pre-installed on your computer, so this is all irrelevant anyways.

yes, that means you DG.

pretty much so. i don't tell most mac users what to do, because they have their heads so deep in apple-**** that they... well. this concepts done.

either way.

mac users need to continue using macs, unless you also use like, debian or ubuntu... of which, then you're a linux geek stuck in a mac body.

By submitting, posting or displaying the content you give Google a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free, and non-exclusive license to reproduce, adapt, modify, translate, publish, publicly perform, publicly display and distribute any Content which you submit, post or display on or through, the Services. 11.2 You agree that this license includes a right for Google to make such Content available to other companies, organizations or individuals with whom Google has relationships for the provision of syndicated services, and to use such Content in connection with the provision of those services.

Mostly personal preference.

I've been using Yahoo for longer, I am use to the interface that I like more, I feel I have results I'm looking for in my search queries than I've gotten with Google.

4 posts up along with Google's great track record of privacy have some to do with it.

Now, I still use google, I have an email account there [it's one of my spam accounts] but i rarely use it's search functions, etc.
