Another tune up game for the buckeyes this week. Hopefully Wells sits out and gets ready to go for the first real game, @ USC.

I think they keep it close till the fourth quarter, but Florida will pull away towards the end. I think Kirk Herbstreit has it as close, but I see it like a 35(ish) to 24(ish).

I'm pretty sure Tennesse is off this weekend and they definitely needed it. Those coaches need to be better and gameplan around their strengths better.

South Carolina will hopefully dismantle Vanderbilt. I'm hoping Smelley shows he can pass well against a decent secondary and the D should be just as stifling as it was of NC State.

Oh its not Miami. If Harvin isn't 100% still then Miami might be able to contain Tebow. Also Miami has one of the fastest D's that Fla will see this year regardless of conference.

Michigan! Miami of Ohio! Get into it! First to ten points wins....we could lose :( And then I could slit my wrists...we just don't seem to do too well against teams from Ohio.

By the way, I like ECU's D to make the WVU game interesting, unfortunately.

vt wins if tyrod plays

they left some points on the board

i say we win by 14 pts

plus, vt's offense is/was pretty bad, so its not like the ecu d was goin against a top 10 offense

also a classic letdown game; mid-major wins a big game, then they dont seem to carry it to the next game

doesnt help that their qb is already giving our d bulletin board material

rumblings the game may be moved b/c of the hurricane

Well VT's always got a really good defense, so maybe that's what he was alluding to.

kwilk103
09-02-2008, 08:21 PM
either way, not exactly the smartest thing to say

the hurricane could affect things; if its windy, that helps our running game; we have a good run defense, and that would hurt their pass defense

wouldnt be shocked if they changed the start time

Kwilk I did not get a chance to see WV play, what is your assessment on their play?

I actually picked ECU to beat them as my upset special in my college pick-em contest. I have no clue why obviously since I did not see WV play. I saw the score vs. Nova was closer than it should have been for awhile, then WV pulled away. Try and take an unbiased point of view and tell me, is there any way ECU "could" beat WV?

offense rolled as expected; they insisted on keepin 8/9 in the box all game so we passed all day; thats why devine had so few carries

defense played very basic, keep it in front; when we did blitz, they couldnt do anything; plus, we put some 2s/3s with our 1s during some of the game; all big east mlb reed williams is expected back, and he will help our defense; even 'novas qb said the defense was basic and we didnt disguise anything; just simple cover 2/3 all game; we will play more man and blitz more this week

hurricane is the thing to watch; imo, it helps us more than it hurts us; it will rely both teams to run the ball, which is our strength; the strength is our defense is the run d; the only team to get more than 100 yds on us last year was rutgers, which was also played in the rain

i only seem them beating us if we turn it over several (3+) times; i dont see their defense holding our offense in check; even if our d is bad, i just cant see their offense keeping up with ours

last few years they kept 8 in the box, and our better talent won out; this year, if they do that, we will throw, opening the running lanes up

if it turns into a shootout, i dont see them keeping up

just looked it up, vt left between 9-17 points on the board (int from ecu 19, turnover on downs from ecu 5, missed 44 yd fg)

it was more of vt shooting themselves in the foot, imo

we should cover easily

kwilk103
09-03-2008, 06:30 PM
all big east lb reed williams is expected to start

josh jenkins is going to get 50% of the snaps from here on out; impressive considering going into camp our whole 2 deep returned

doc said he as the best guard in the country last year, but even then he didnt know he was that guard, and has impressed him

The more I think about it the more excited I'm getting about the Southern Miss-Auburn game. Southern Miss RB Damion Fletcher is one of my favorite players in college football. Nobody in college football runs harder than Fletcher for a back of his size. If the guy was 15 lbs heavier he'd be getting first round consideration as a junior.

Senior TE Shawn Nelson is a highly underated NFL Prospect. He has great size at 6'5" 245 lbs with 4.6 speed. He's an excellent reciever and an improving blocker.

This is so aggravating...the offense is unwatchable and now, no Mckinley it's disgusting. The defense shouldnt even have any points against...You have the muff and a horrible Smelley pick that set up two short field scoring drives.

Just throw to Cook and Lecorn, Smelley.

vandy defense kept the game close the first half, and the offense was able to make play in the second, great game had one hell of a time, lets go dores, 2 in a row against sc, are defense made play all night, sc QB sucks and nickson isn't even better but atleast he didn't turn the ball over.

South Carolina is garbage. Why do they look so bad? weren't they supposed to be somewhat good this season?

You never know w/ them. The defense was expected to be fantastic and in the 1st two games they have looked excellent. They were great tonight, only giving up 235 yards...the short fields killed us. Costly turnovers by Smelley and terrible ST play. The defense is an elite unit...the offense on the other hand is just garbage. Horrible offensive line...again and inconsistant QB play, those tend to go hand in hand but, the decision making really needs to be improved upon, Smelley had some time to throw tonight but, made some poor throws. Doent help that our Wrs have to wait on everything because, of his average arm. ugh. In the end, the defense should keep us in every game but, it may be a bumpy road once again, with what we've seen from the offense thus far. It's just disappointing...the Spurrier era has not been what any of us fans are hoping for. Pretty much our only shot to become one of the elite and it just isnt happening. After he leaves, things are probably just going to get worse. Tough to be Gamecock fan.

edit...i will say this though, I wouldnt count them out next week against Georgia.

+1 on the bold.

Too bad that @ UGA game is not later in the season, UGA might not have any starters left, lol.

@ Tenn might not be as hard as it used to be after that loss to UCLA, but we must wait and see.

People overeacted when south carolina shut out a God awful NCstate team. They came back to earth when they lost to vanderbilt, because people realized that the two teams were battling for the right to finish last in the SEC East and would likely not make a bowl. It's a recurring theme. Sort of like Alabama winning a big game, getting an SI cover portraying "BAMA'S BACK!", and then promptly do something embarasing like losing to Louisiana Monroe at home.

South Carolina certainly has enough talent to compete w/ the better teams in the SEC, they wont finish in last. I wouldnt be shocked if they knocked off georgia next week. Just need the offense to show up for a change, the defense will keep them in it.

Competing means pushing another team and being there in the end. USC is not that good, they do not have the talent to do that. Its pretty plain. They do not have the QB, O-line, or RB.

All they have are some starlets out on the field, mainly on defense who tend to make up for their other deficiencies.

Also what did Lou say this time? I was watching last night when he said USC had the best defense in the SEC. Hell they might not even have the best defense in their own division, let alone the entire conference.

I never said equal overall talent. On defense yes, I do believe they have equal to better talent. Potentially the best defense in the conference...On the offensive end... yes, they are greatly lacking but, w/ that defense...they will be in most games. The offense is pretty much the same unit, minus Boyd, who beat Georgia a year ago. It's a team you cant count out, any given week...just like a Vandy, who I shouldnt have been sleeping on. These two teams do have enough talent to compete and knock off the better teams in the SEC. It's been a slow process but, the SCAR's, Vandy's, and Kentucky's out there have shown they can play with the big boys.

The voters who decided to rank them, perhaps?

Well, when you start off the season ranked or lets say unranked, at #26 and several top 25 teams lose...you tend to be ranked the next week. It wasnt an overreaction to the NC State game, who no one was praising to begin with, they were ranked based on the simple fact that they were the odd team out of the rankings in the first poll.

We'll see...this defense could be the best in school history. Of course, i'm jumping the gun a bit but, they have nfl caliber talent all over that defense and fantastic depth at every position. I try not to make bold statements and say flat out that they are the best in the SEC but, from a talent stand point...they're right on par with the elite.

So they tell me to call CBS, but CBS had no phone number available, so I fill out a EMail thing, and then after I do that they give me the phone number, which I call and have been on the waiting line for like 15 minutes.

I've been watching the game and although Juice hasn't been as strong in the passing game, his 2nd INT was a dropped pass that went to a defender. He's looked a lot better since then and just led us down the field for a touchdown before halftime. Also has 100 yards rushing and two TD's.

Well, OSU's RG clearly was holding that play. Should have been called. I want OSU to win this one legit, or go down trying.

more credence to my NCAA conspiracy....they know USC-OSU will be that much less epic if one of the teams is coming off of a loss to freaking Ohio

Even if OSU scores, Ohio still has time(which could be good or bad for them.)

Been saying that for three years myself. I'm surprised Saine hasn't been more successful though, but this game I think cements Herron as Beanie's heir apparent.

Heir, not aire. But yeah, good point. I thought Saine was supposed to be the second coming.

It's not going to happen. They won't let Ohio win @ OSU a week before USC.

Exactly........

I also bet OSU doesn't drop in the rankings. They so should....oh so should.......if anything, I bet they somehow go up so the NCAA can tout it a 1 v 2 in the nation.

Sam McGuffie is exciting too watch. Michigan QB's are not.

Well, Saine did look decent on the last drive. They are two different runners, could be a good 1-2 punch.

McGuffie's killing it out there. Sweet extra point Lopata. Who do you think you are, Ryan Pretorious or something?

Dante Harden is the reason Ohio is doing this, not Boo "What is a completion" Jackson.

I really don't like GT running this offense. I think it's going to be hard for them to get guys to come in and play in it and it really isn't helping these guys for the pros, especially not Dwyer.

Jackson running around like an idiot was what got Ohio into the game at the end of the first half at least....

plus that fro thing he's got going in pretty cool looking, lol

Yep. And we have always struggled against rushing QBs (see Michael Robinson, Juice, etc).

Harden has done a lot, but Boo's legs have set it up very well.

Haha, I'll believe you if OSU goes up. Until then, it just isn't really possible for a huge conspiracy to go down for the NCAA, lol. To have refs, high officials, etc. involved, it'd leak. And they would have done a poor job in the past setting up NC games, lol.
