I wonder where he'll go HMMMMMMM?

Very suprising to me at least...I bet alot of this is based on his character problems, not his talent.

So much for them having a legit WR.

Making room for Stallworth perhaps?

Why?

And all those 49er fans were saying "We will not take a WR at 11!"

Yea, Brian Gilmore, arnaz battle, brandon williams and Taylor Jacobs are definitely not going to cut it. Still, Nolan gave him a chance but Bryant screwed up. We better make a run for Stallworth because our set of wr's are definitely the worst in the league.

We won't. From everything i've read/heard(radio, newspaper), nolan/scott m don't like taking corners and receivers high. They'd rather get them through FA and 3rd-4th round. Our d-line is terrible, we need a guy like branch or carriker

Robert Meachem going 11th maybe? They better find Alex Smith a legit target.

And they still wont, unless Laron Landry, Amobi Okoye, Adam Carriker, Jarvis Moss, and potentially Alan Branch are gone.

This move..hmmm. It saves the 49ers cap room, but they didnt really need the extra space. This stinks though. Stallworth maybe?

If you don't sign a good WR in FA, which there aren't many of them, are you really comfortable with the guys you have? Smith can't throw it only to VD.

Ginn could be a possbility at 11 if Branch and Landry are gone, which I expect them to be.

I really like Arnaz Battle and I feel he's pretty underrated. He could have a nice year with Bryant gone.

No. god no. Not him or ginn.

I think, if they go WR, mecahem or bowe are the picks.

Of course not, but i'm confident that nolan will get the right guys. Bryant wasn't even going to be able to play in our first 2 games, so we'd have to get a guy anyway. It definitely has to be stallworth or a guy in the 2nd or 3rd round...like jason hill, maybe.

You will need more than that. With Bryant, your WR core was weak to be kind.

Kind of shocking, I think 49ers should go with Bowe now.

Matthew Jones

Dwayne Bowe makes sense as a guy Nolan got to see a lot of at the Senior Bowl.

they could bring in a vet like Joe Horn if he is not overpriced. they just need a reliable wr option for smith.

i have to agree with going defense in the first. get some young talent on d to compliment the young O. add a good vet wr and theyre looking pretty good

You've got to have a legit WR, maybe they're hoping SD style will work. No top flight WR, but a topflight RB and TE.

Maybe a trade down now with someone who wants Landry, Moss, Branch, Okoye, Lynch, etc. if they're available. Maybe pick up an extra 2nd-3rd rounder, and pick up Meachem or Rice.

hell denver might be a possibility of trading up. they are really agressive and have an extra 3rd. they may want to get a elite D-lineman or get Lynch.

I think a lot of people here are missing the point. Yes, the WR corps is weak, but there are other strengths on offense that can somewhat compensate for that: a pretty good OL, Frank Gore, and Vernon Davis to name a few.

On defense, there's nothing. Outside of a pair of decent CBs, the D needs help pretty much everywhere. Manny Lawson was a good start last year, Bryant Young and Derek Smith should be okay for a few more years, and personally I really like the progress of young Ronnie Fields at NT/DE-- but that's it. Even with Bryant getting the axe, the D still needs much more help than the O.

I have no doubt Nolan will be signing somebody to take over Bryant's role-- my money's on Drew Bennett, but I could see Joe Horn as a stopgap or even Donte Stallworth.

Instead of trading down, why don't the 9ers think about trading up? Giving the 49ers Calvin Johnson would be crazy... Gore, CJ, Vernon Davis, Alex Smith. Wow.

this is actually really surprising to me. i know he is suspended and due to miss the first two games of the season but he was the only good receiver they had last year. i thought they would deal with his off-field troubles because his production was decent and salary wasnt too bad, especially since they had so much cap room that it didnt really matter.

This is exactly what I was thinking.

I like Arnaz, but I think he's best suited as a #2, not a cut against him.. Reggie Wayne wouldn't complain being called the #2.

I think they Should go after... Either Drew Bennett, Joe Horn, or Dante Stallworth.

Stallworth a Vertical option, where Bennett is more a possession and Horn is basically a mix. $$$ vs age vs production could lead them to pick up 1 veteran (If it were me I'd take Horn). and Grab a rd 2/3 Rookie. A guy Like say, Sidney Rice, Jason Hill, Craig Davis. Don't forget they got I believe Brandon Williams last year, so... they need to develop him and another Rookie and sign a guy like Bennett or Horn to a 2-3 year contract.

every 49er fan would love CJ but SF would have to give up a lot to get a top 4 pick. SF will probally sign either Bennet or Stallworth

I think they'll probably just wait for one of the WR's to fall to the 2nd round. Maybe Sidney Rice

No. This defense gave up 30+ points 7 times. They also gave up 2 touchdowns to a historically bad raiders offense, a offense that scored 10 tds in 15 other games.

They wont go WR unless the defensive value (landry..carriker..okoye, etc) is gone.

With this move the niners draft priority is definitely WR. Especially with the rumors that the niners already have a deal in place with Addalius Thomas and are already in talks with Leonard Davis.

If their staying pat then I definitely say grab either Meachem (did I spell that right?) or Bowe.

But trading up would be ideal especially for Alex Smith for CJ they wouldn't need to move to one or two so the price for trading up wouldn't be so steep. Especially with the prosepects of seeing A.Smith, Gore, CJ, and VD on the field all at once and possibly another WR in a later round maybe a Jarret or a S.Rice but thats just wishful thinking......

Smooth Criminal

The defense is still the weakpoint of this team. They need alot of help at just about every position, esspecially D-line and S.

WR can wait till the 2nd round to get Rice or trade up into the late 1st to get Jarrett.

They'll probably be the frontrunners to sign Stallworth or Bennett. I'm kinda unhappy with the move, but Nolan really had issues with Bryant's character problems.

Stallworth is the larry Hughes of football. Might be a good player, but it does no good if your hurt.

I expected this. He is a cancerous entity in the locker room. He blew up on the field, far too often. At least, often enough not to justify his ho-hum production. That said; the 49ers are in desperate need of a WR to help Alex Smith out.

QFT - there is no no.1 WR in FA so we will need to look at this day 1 of the draft
