with Antawn Jamison of the Washington Wizzards today. It was part of a community project my church was helping with that Jamison sponsored. He was born in Shreveport. In 6 hours 50 people built a huge playground in a subdivision right next door to a home for under-privileged kids. I was able to get an auto-graph, skake hands and actually talk with him and joke around with him as we worked. He is a very cool, down-to-earth individual.

Now, other than this just being a cool event that people here would appreciate, this thread comes with a message. At present, the one thing that connects the members of this site with any pro athlete is obviously love of a game; add love for your fellow man to that list. In a week I'm going to go back to that playground, and far more valuble then the autograph I recieved from an awesome athlete, will be the smiles on the faces of the children playing there.

He's always been one of the classier guys in the NBA. Great to know you had the opportunity to meet and talk to such a great person and role model. I like the message you brought up in your post too.

This is him putting the top on one of the spires above the "crazy climb wall".
Used my cell-phone cam so I apologize for the quality.

So you shook his hand.

Was it clammy?

It was HUGE! His hand , like, swallowed mine up. And he is one tall drink of water, I'll say that.

You should have "dropped" a hammer on his big toe. Make LeBron's job easier next year.

He was born in Lousiana and still has family here. I think he moved to North Carolina at a young age though. I know he didn't go to middle school here.

I've met Jamison on multiple occasions.

Nothing but positives from me. I'm glad we kept him in DC for probably the remainder of his career.
