View Full Version : Research Paper Topic
snuff

I am looking for a topic for my research paper for English and was having trouble coming up with anything.
There are no requirements for preliminary paper other than I must have 6 academic sources for it, so the topic has to be pretty well researched.
I would like it to be interesting and funny. For example: Abortion is the #1 crime detterent in america.
The crazier the topic the better. +rep for who ever can come up with something I like.

I did my last research paper on the occurance of singularities...but that may not interest everyone.
How about, "Ben Franklin is the True Founding Father". Literally, he was quite the womanizer and fathered an insane amount of children. If i recall correctly it was above 20 or 30.

Look there for an explanation. Anyway, this guy wrote a book about history being completely made up. The Greeks, Romans, Egyptians, they were all "invented" during the renaissance, Jesus was born in 1053 AD, the Old Testament was written long after the new testament, and tons of other things. Obviously, it would be difficult without the book, but I'm sure you can find some stuff. It seems pretty interesting, albeit extremely farfetched. Plus you could take on the role of someone who supports that theory, if you wanted. Just a thought.

*shrug*
i don't recall a time in recent history when either of those religions have been anywhere near as persecuted as judaism, thus when someone posts something about jews in a clear joke thread, it's assumed to have been done with extremely malicious intent.
so no, it probably wouldn't have been a big deal (although muslims in the last few years are approaching a similar level of notoriety in the US).

162 Reasons Why Frogstomp is Wrong About the 360i'll agree i have been doing major research on both the 360 and ps3. the ps3 blows the 360 out of the water. see motorstorm. only reason you need. or the fact that you get a $1000 blu ray player for 500 or 600 bucks. i mean even if you dont use it to game and just as a media center its well worth it over the 360.

He was neither. He was a man searching for a message to deliver, and wound up delivering the right message the very wrong way.
If you want to argue the line between genius and crockpot, Terrance McKenna, the man who Leary once introduced as "the real Timothy Leary", is a much better subject.
EDIT - although I suppose that Socrates was also called a genius and a crockpot.

I'd love to hear some. Socrates was guided others, Leary was dreadfully misguided.Im not comparing what they did, More so compared how they went about it. I also have a complaint with what your saying. Both guided people and both were looked at as misguiding people.
I mostly hit on the fact that Socrates had a following of young people. The older population was worried because basically Socrates told all the younger people that their parents and all the older people they were supposed to respect were Idiots. Which is what lead to Socrates' imprisonment and than death.
Leary along with people like Ken Kesey were basically the people who transitioned the beatnik era into the hippy era. So they had a large following of americas youth and the american government worked very hard to stop them. So t hey both had sort of a cult like following.
There are similarities through the way they went about spreading their word. Also the fact that alot of society looked at both Socrates and Leary as corrupters of the youth and than the rest of society looked at them as leaders to something new. There are also a few other small similarities.

Actually, the youth corruption thing occured to me shortly after posting that. You're right, there are very strong comparisons with that, but the fact that one (despite being executed) was a relative success and the other was an utter trainwreck makes me cringe at the comparison.
