Just saw the encore of the pilot, and I'm hooked already. Another reason why NBC is the best of the Big 3. Any body else seen it?

Hmm, I actually wanted to see it, but I guess it slipped my mind. Oh well, maybe they have it on nbc.com.

About 4 Irish American brothers in NYC. Street wise kids growing up. Got themselves in a lot of trouble. The one brother has his head on straight (going to school for art, etc.) but keeps on getting brought down by his other brothers. They are getting mixed up with some other mob type fellows and its just about them trying to make it I guess. It is hard to say really since there has only been 1 episode.

in all honesty, the brother who stole the shirts (jimmy? it's been a few days) annoyed the crap out of me (in a bad way). which was too bad, the other guys seemed to have great chemistry in in trading the lines back and forth. hopefully that improves.

Well Jimmy might be limited in interaction now that he is locked up. The interaction between Tommy and Kevin was great when Tommy kept on finding out his brothers gambling debt was more and more than he originally was led on to believe. And Olivia Wilde is absolutely gorgeous with dark hair.

I actually thought Sean was the most annoying. I was kind of glad he got the **** beat out of him.

absolutely. and i hope so... it was just annoying that the other three guys seemed like brothers, and he seemed so misplaced.

I'm hooked as well. It looks like its gonna be a great one and I'm not even that big of a fan of the whole gangster/mafia genre. Heroes and Black Donnellys have the potential to make Monday nights on NBC the best night on television.

I haven't watched the show, but I think it is kind of stupid to take a families name from the late 1800s who were slaughtered for things that weren't proven that they did. I am pretty sure they just took the name because they were "criminals" and they can turn it into a TV version of the movie 4 Brothers. I really don't think that they should have used that families name because it is very controversial for anyone who knows about what happened the family.

I know that the show has nothing to do with that terrible slaughter in Kingston, Ontario and that the only real similarities are the fact that they share the same names and heritage, but I really think that they should have gone with a different name for history's sake.

I'm pretty sure there was a specific occurrence involving The Black Donnellys, but I'm not really sure what its all about

I saw it on Monday. Looks pretty good. I was surprised to notice that Jimmy was Smalls from The Sandlot

Come on, we dont need to start a pointless argument in this thread because you had nothing worthwhile to say, and decided to say something useless.

That really puts a damper on things sometimes.

I mentioned that because in a previous post someone said that Donnelys and Heros have the potential to be the best night on television... so I decided to add my 2 cents.

Sorry, I guess.

No, but my post kind of explained why I thought the concept was stupid considering the circumstances of the actual Black Donnelys who were slaughtered in Kingston Ontario in the late 1800s.

you guys are completely overthinking the black donnelly thing

the black comes from being a black irish, very few of us irish people have dark hair(something like 3%) and they are said to be cursed

No, you just think it is completely coincidence that a family of gangsters with the exact same name is now being turned into a show about some Irish gangsters from New York instead of Kingston Ontario, which obviously doesn't have as much crime as NYC.

I have no idea why you posted that picture. Also, just a note, only one of the brothers has dark hair in the show.

That's actually just wrong, most Irish people (~80%) have dark colored hair. Black Irish are decended from the Celtic people of Spain, who migrated to Ireland a loooooooooooooong time ago. They also have darker skin and brown eyes.

Hence the "Black Irish"

Where you got that "cursed" stuff is beyond me.

Loved the Pilot.

Heroes and The Black Donnelly's might just become my 2 favorite (non-comedy) shows on TV.

As for the connection to the Black Donnellys in Ontario...Space Ghost is correct, that is where the name comes from.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Black_Donnellys
"In creating the show, Haggis, a native of London, Ontario, has strongly referenced his hometown's local history about the real-life Black Donnellys and the massacre associated with their name."

Personally I don't care though.

What night is this show on? Has there just been the one episode so far? If so I may have to check it out.

it's on Monday nights at 10, right after Heroes. There has only been 1 episode so far.

The first episode seemed good, but im going to reserve judgment and see if the show can maintain the level of the first episode and not get repetitive and boring.

absolutely. and i hope so... it was just annoying that the other three guys seemed like brothers, and he seemed so misplaced.

IMO I think he's supposed to be that way...he's kinda set up to be the different/misplaced brother outta the group...it might be just him as an actor or whatever but I honestly think he was meant to stand out like that...I mean most families always have one kid that doesn't fit perfectly with the rest so this kinda makes sense...plus I think jimmy is the youngest(maybe? correct me if I'm wrong) but that would make sense also as to why he's not like the others and is a little more out there and different maybe?

I loved the first episode I'm just kinda in the dark on what kinda direction the rest of the show is going to go besides like the basic theme of how they are "taking over the neighborhood"

For those who haven't seen the first episode and have a video Ipod I believe you can still download the pilot on Itunes for free.
