Didn't see a thread for it, but it was just announced on Sportscenter.

Discuss.

Good to see him not receiving the star treatment. Either way, the Seahawks and Browns haven't looked good this year.

2 weeks, but only 1 game.

^ wondering the same thing. It's currently being discussed as a violation of an "unspecified team rule."

One game suspension - so maybe he punched a teammate but didn't break his nose?

thank God it is only one game, Plax is a fantasy beast.

He didn't show up for practice and then didn't answer his phone all day when they were looking for him. Apparently his reasoning (I don't know what is was) wasn't good enough.

Plaxico is one hell of a player but it's incidents like this that taint his image

How many teams would actually suspend arguably their best offensive player for missing practice?

That is why I love the Giants. =D

I could put money on the fact that if TO missed practice, the Cowboys would either sweep it under the rug or not make a big deal out of it.

Depends though if it's a star player. IS the coach on the hot seat or not? I am guessing it's not as cut and dry as you would think. I would do it, but it all depends on the HC and his rules.

It makes sense, I mean hell, the Panthers suspended Smith even though Lucas asked for him not to.

I know Plax didn't deck someone, but the principle (breaking a code of conduct) remains similar at least and its good to see the Giants don't care about status.

That said, I like how its two weeks instead of 2 games, giving him what is really an easy game off to recover.

Plax can do whatever he wants, he won them a Super Bowl.

He does lose two weeks of pay though. Which is about $250,000 I think they said.

Bottom line is the Giants gave him a new big contract with the understading that he would attend all OTAs and offseason workouts. The fact that he missed a mandatory practice and didn't even make a phone call or answer his phone, looks bad after the new big deal. The Giants had to take care of it right away.

Im curious to know both sides of the story. As of right now im not upset, we have Hixon and Super Mario.

I know Hixon will beast it when given the chance, Im curious to see if Moss or Mario do anything in the 4 WR sets.

Hooray for crazy WR depth. And hooray for Eli Manning making all of them look better than they really are.

Reminds me a little bit of Drew Brees circa 04, 05: No real gamebreakers as targets but if you've got a QB who can put the ball in the right place you'll see plenty of production. Giants will stay on track without Plax for a week easily.

Cowboys always find a way into every thread no matter what the topic is, and you guys are the same people who say they get sick of hearing about the Cowboys every time they turn on the TV:rolleyes:

Plax is one of my favorite WR's in the NFL hands down, but this doesn't look good right after you signed that huge contract he has been lobbying for...G-men should still handle the Seahawks though.

Police reportedly responded to a pair of domestic disputes at the home of Plaxico Burress over the past three months.

It's unclear if this had anything to do with Plax's one-game suspension, but he was never charged. Still, Burress' wife filed for restraining orders and claimed "he had grabbed her." She admitted to slapping Plaxico in his face and both restraining orders were dismissed in court. This appears to be more of a personal issue, not something that could get Burress suspended.

Arguably? More like hands down the best offensive player on the team. No one else on that offense comes close to him.

I like the move. It sends a message to the entire organization that everyone is accountable, and that even their best offensive weapon ain't off the hook. Good move, and the Giants should still be able to handle the punch less Seahawks without him.

Their car was totaled along the way and one of them was injured, but that didn't matter. It's the principle of the thing.

With the Giants he fined 2 guys for showing up less then 5 minutes early for a meeting. I don't see what the big deal is, Plax has missed 95% of practices anyway since joining the Giants.

Did you all hear this?

http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/blog/shutdown_corner/post/Plaxico-Burress-fined-a-stunning-number-of-tim?urn=nfl,111051

Recently-suspended Giants WR Plaxico Burress has been fined a stunning 40-50 times during his four seasons in New York, according to FOX Sports' Jay Glazer. The fines have been levied for various offenses, mainly related to Burress' tardiness for meetings and treatments.

Even if he was fined a dollar only, how the heck do you get fined so many times?

Sorry Giants hotline. Lol. The only reason i posted the link was because i saw the story on Yahoo! Usually their stuff is pretty updated, so i'm surprised it's here just now.

But anyway, yeah, i guess that does explain the suspension a little, although i'm not too impressed. Suspending him during a bye-week is like the college coach that suspends his players when they play Alcorn State instead of Georgia.

I guess coaches worry more about not cutting off their nose to spite their face than actual discipline.

Edit - I realize that he was suspended after skipping practice, which coincidentally was during a bye week, but i'm just saying..

as pf28 said, kinda old news.

no surprise, Steve Smith said Plax kinda does what he wants. since we're winning and he's not bitching and he's pwning on the field, it hasn't been overblown. He's quietly just taken the fines that's that.

He's still missing the Seahawks game. It is really a one week suspension. Although he loses two weeks pay. But I heard they reached a settlement to lower that a bit.

The fine went from like $237,000 to $117,000 or something like that.

Don't worry about it man. It's all good. Also, remember Coughlin fines people for socks length, time for meetings, and so on. So If someone had a diva like mentality, you can get fines for almost everything from skipping meetings, and treatment to socks, to meetings, and so on. I am sure in one week you can get alot of them.

Yeah, i understand, but it's things like ESPN that make my blood boil. T.O says that the team will be more successful if he gets the ball, and it's all over sportscenter and every damn show. Plastico gets fined 50 times and it doesn't even make a Sportscenter Right Now clips. Man i hate them.

LOL. This suprises you? I don't know why. Espn is on their knees when it comes to your team and them. They love you like a porn star loves.. well you get the picture. ANYTHING, and I mean ANYTHING that's Cowboys related is going to be on BS.. i mean ESPN. I am suprised we made ESPN when we won the superbowl. I guess they sorta had to put us on there. I rememeber watching last years season opener in Dallas and it was a ESPN-Cowboy love fest. They Aikman, and showed him sitting with Skeletor in his box, and then interviewed Emmitt Smith for dancing with the Stars, and that singer guy. The next day the Mara family wrote a letter to the NFL to get on ESPN for being bias. My point is this is nothing new. If Skeletor wants to be main stream and all over the press, then every little bit of news will make it, good or bad, ESPECIALLY if it's ESPN.

No, i'm not surprised at all, i just get pissed. I have basic satellite, so BSPN and the deux are all the sports channels i have, after the pricks at Dish ripped me of my NFL Network. So it's either that, or nothing. I hate them, and i hope that the players start hating them as well so they know people despise the fact that they've turned into TMZ and not a sports highlights channel.

ESPN=MTV

That's pretty much what has happened.. MTV used to be all music videos, and now it's all lame shows. ESPN news is what ESPN should be with constant sports, but now ESPN is basically like you said TMZ of sports. Following the TO saga in Philly to TO saga in Dallas and now season 3 Favre saga. ESPN had their own reality show too to be a host if I am not mistaken, lol.

:D

Maybe I missed in the thread, but this was the first article I saw that actually made anything more than a vague reference to Plax "probably" having many prior offenses to get suspended for missing a meeting/practice.
