how in god's name did we get someone to even consider giving up a 4th for plummer? that's fantastic.

Right with you there lol
I'm happy, I didn't think any team would give up a 3rd basically since all the teams interested in him were in the top 10, no team will give up a high 3rd for him. 4th is good, since Broncos didn't have one anyways.

A high fourth with that trade. Good move by the Broncos.

Plummer to the Bucs ! .. what is Jon Gruden's QB plan ? He seems to be intent in undermining Chris Simms. Let's see how Gruden works it with Plummer. After his first season with the Broncos, I thought he might have turned a corner, then he became good ol Jake of the Cardinals ...

plummer will be good there and can tutor simms but a fourth is high for a guy who got demoted to back up for a rookie, thats like trading a fourth for kurt warner

i think he's an idiot if he believes that sitting out a year will somehow get him a starting job.

OTOH, if he retires, we should be off the hook for his cap number, which is HUGE.

So, is his entire cap number off the books or what?

If you retire you count against hte salary count as if you were released.

Here is the problem:

1. It is my understanding you count against that cap if you retire but not if you get traded

AND

you do not get the third round pick from Tampa. I would not be suprised if Denver was striking a deal to trade the newly acquired Tampa's third round pick to . . .

Buffalo for Willis McGahee

So Plummer would cost us millions of dollars to not play AND prevent us from getting a pro-bowl running back - that is our team player Jake "the enviromental car driving" Snake-biting the broncos Son of a B#>*h

So Plummer would rather sit on the bench to Cutler than go to Tampa and play with Cadilac and possibly CJ, and also start.

Don't encourage this or call it a good fit. This man is not worth any draft pick, and I hope he retires and cuts his hair.

Apparentally if he does retire, we can make him pay back some fo the money he owes, so his cap figure would be lower.

BRONCOS ANNOUNCE TRADE OF PLUMMER TO TAMPA

In a move that can only be described as bizarre, the press release announcing the acquisition of defensive tackle Dan Wilkinson by the Broncos also states that quarterback Jake Plummer has been traded to Tampa for a conditional pick in the 2008 draft.

The release, which was forwarded to us by Adam Caplan of Scout.com, says: "The Denver Broncos on Saturday traded quarterback Jake Plummer to Tampa Bay in exchange for a conditional selection in the 2008 NFL Draft, Head Coach Mike Shanahan announced. Denver also acquired defensive tackle Dan Wilkinson from Miami in exchange for the Broncos' own sixth round pick (24th in round) in the 2007 NFL Draft."

Apparently, the Bucs have opted to squat on Plummer's rights. If he truly retires, the Broncos would likely get nothing. If Plummer decides not to quit, then the Broncos get a pick in 2008 based on, potentially, Plummer's playing time or performance.

So, as a practical matter, the Bucs now have Plummer, Jeff Garcia, and Chris Simms under contract.

And if Plummer follows through on his apparent plan to retire, the Bucs will have the ability to recoup the remainder of any unallocated signing bonus money from Plummer, even though Tampa didn't pay out the bonus.
